1. Highlighting Currently Edited Document In Book

   on to Hello there,

   I edit two copies of a book open at once, each one a different format. If you look at the picture you will see what the two books look like in the books editor-kind of. I am migrating one copy of my book from A4 to ePub for Kindle (why don't you support the .mobi Kindle format or get Amazon to write a plugin for the purpose? I am forced to use Word to write a kindle book). The file are in two different folders. The files have the same name for each book.

   It would be really useful if InDesign highlighted the document in the book panel that I am currently editing. Especially, if you are editing over 30 documents per book.

   I also might have imagined this, but if you have two files open from two different books that have the same name, when you save one of the files, it saves the other file with the same name. This is very "dangerous". I had made edits to one file that I wanted to keep and edits to the other I did not. InDesign saved both files even though only saved using the menu. The result is that it trashed one of the files by putting tentative but major changes on n on top of what was a completed document that I effectively wanted to roll back to-I did not want to keep the changes.

2. Flag Adobe fonts in document as "Mandatory: Use TypeKit"

   We have multiple versions of fonts available in our environment (Type1, TT, and access to TypeKit) so having the ability to indicate specific fonts as "Mandatory use from Adobe Fonts/Typekit" would be helpful. In essence, the user wouldn't have to manually activate/deactivate to achieve the correct combination of fonts.
   For example, the user may have Proxima Nova family Type 1 active, but the document correctly shows the TypeKit fonts as missing. They then activate their TT family, which also fails. They tend to not think of Typekit as it's not searchable in our font management tool.
   Using the Document Fonts folder can help in this arena, but it won't help with AdobeFonts/Typekit fonts, and other issues creep in.
   Font mangers, like Extensis Suitcase and FontAgent, don't seem to consistently recognize the availability of an Adobe Font/TypeKit font.

3. Ability to set Style Override Highlighter as "on" or "off" in preferences

   Currently the Style Override Highlighter [+] in the various styles panels functions as a toggle on a per app basis, not as an "on" or "off" preference setting. This means it can't be set on a document by document basis, as enabling it will actually toggle the setting to "off" if a user has the setting switched "on" in their copy of InDesign.

   Would greatly appreciate the ability to set this as a normal InDesign preference - ie one that can be set at application/document level, the same as almost every other setting in the program.

4. Include 2 or 3 InCopy licenses in CC or InDesign subscriptions or MAKE IT FREE!

   InCopy is a great collaboration tool between two or more people.

   But the way Creative Cloud subscription is going, InDesign is a powerful tool to me, but InCopy is totally USELESS. As a designer (not writer), I never need to use InDesign and InCopy at same time. In fact, I never need to use InCopy myself at all. InDesign along with InCopy suppose at least two people working on same job. Most of time the writer, who could actually use InCopy, is my client. It makes no sense to include InDesign and InCopy expecting that the same person will use both.
   The great problem is I can’t convince my clients to monthly subscribe to InCopy (even costing U$ 5) to do seasonal jobs. They would not like to pay for a service that I should provide for what they’re paying me. “Dear client, please pay subscription to make things easy for me”, simply doesn't exists.
   But I do not want to give my Creative Cloud credentials to my clients, allowing them to install InCopy on their computers to collaborate with my designs (activation on 2 computers is allowed as long as using one at a time).
   I have one InCopy license in my subscription which I don’t use myself (don’t need to) or cannot “lend” to my clients. That’s why is useless.
   So why don't include 2 or 3 InCopy licenses in Creative Cloud or InDesign subscription, independent to subscriber’s credentials, so one could distribute to clients who don't need/want/like to pay for a subscription themselves? Or, at least, allow subscriber to distribute the already included InCopy. Since is useless to me, let someone else use it to help me and avoid Word or e-mail to send texts to place.
   Installation and user permissions could be managed by e-mails allowed by CC’s subscriber.
   I'm the creative in the process paying for Creative Cloud subscription, not my clients.
   Give a good purpose to include InCopy in CC subscription. Thanks.

6. Fix bugs when reviewing

   On the review end, When entering the password for the like, the "verify not human" pictograms pop up and repeats. Then the pin tool does not link to the comments.

7. Show error when paragraph composer cannot render lines

   All too often, I run into text that doesn't render because of some feature of the text (unsure of all cases, but examples are words that exceed the line length, common in some languages and in URLs). I have a stable of techniques for dealing with these issues, but most usually I'm poking around in the dark: the lines I'm trying to fix are not visible in InDesign; I don't know what exactly is offensive (e.g., Chinese lines were usually things work, but sometimes they don't); and the offending text might have gremlins from the source text that are not rendered in InDesign even when I can see them.

   It would get great if InDesign had an option to 1) show the error/reason that the line couldn't be rendered, and 2) to force render the line so that users are not guessing at fixes, or what I often do, throwing text into a basic text editor to attempt to clean the source text (which is a 50-50 or worse solution).

   FWIW, I see these errors most commonly in Chinese text, and perhaps most issues could be solved with a default Chinese dictionary. How I solve these Chinese issues can be bizarre, however: technique #1, adding spaces between words, then kerning out the spaces; technique #2, adding tab characters at the end of the paragraph (not even sure how I figured out that one!)

   One thought here would be to provide an option to render overset type within the Normal screen mode. Or to add a more specific error to the Preflight panel (e.g., sure its overset, but not because the frame isn't big enough, so what is the problem?)

8. A simple quick command for flipping and rotating objects

   I use the flip and rotate tool quick commands within illustrator all the time and am frustrated by all the clicking I have to do in indesign to do the same thing.

9. Shutterstock watermark alert

   The Shutterstock plugin is a great tool for easy access to the image database. Drag and drop the desirable picture into the lay-out.
   It would help if watermark pictures would be detected while exporting to pdf.

10. Equation Editor for Mac OS version

    It is very sad that Adobe relies so heavily on third party developer to fix issues for services that we CC subscribers pay for already. It is very dissapppointing that I have to search the internet for an app or plugin to do something that should be built into a product such as Indesign. I should not have to purchase anything that creates a function that this software should provide based on the context of what it is supposed to do. Indesign is in all forms a layout and typeset application that for the steep cost should provide the ability to layout any sort of information, even something like creating a manual that contains math equations. I should not have to purchase anything else in order to be able to put this into my publication. Again this is sad that we even have to request this function in a tool that anyone with any common sense would think would already be built into this program... please keep up with your products and what they do and the functions they should provide, especially since you want me to pay monthly.

11. Update Hyperlinks after destination file rename

    Hi there and thanks for this wonderful tool!

    Usually I always find a way to do what I want thanks to ExtendScript which is just amazing.

    However in this case it seems that it's not possible (https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/target-the-source-hyperlink-destination-document-of-an-hyperlinks/m-p/11498930)

    I am now working on a very long document that we split in three .indd files and have dozens of hyperlinks in each file to jump from one file to another.

    Let's say they are called:

    P_EN_v1.0.indd
    Q_EN_v1.0.indd
    R_EN_v1.0.indd
    

    If we find things to update in those files then we would like to share new versions with attendants to our event as new set of files that are named differently from the previous ones. So we would call them for instance:

    P_EN_v2.0.indd
    Q_EN_v2.0.indd
    R_EN_v2.0.indd
    

    However, as soon as files are renamed, all the hyperlinks are broken and need to be redefined by hand one by one. The error shown after renaming is:

    Hyperlink destination document not found. Please verify the
    document's location in the Hyperlinks panel before choosing
    this hyperlink.
    

    Not only the destination file path is lost, but also the name of the "Hyperlink Destination", so one needs to be very careful to re-link every single Hyperlink to its proper destination, and given we have dozens and dozens this can be very error prone.

    It would be very useful if there was a way to say that file P_EN_v1.0.indd was renamed as P_EN_v2.0.indd, and therefore update all Hyperlinks that are pointing to v1.0 to point to v2.0 in a single operation.

    According to the forum discussion linked above it is not possible to achieve this through scripting, but only through exporting as IDML, doing a find&replace and exporting again as INDD.

    However it seems to me that this should be supported by InDesign itself, since renaming files should be a harmless enough thing to do. Otherwise as soon as I start linking I am actually deadlocking myself to forever use the file names as they are or have to relink everything.

    And in case of an event like us where every day we update the file and have a new set with v1.0, v1.1, v1.2, v2.0, and so on, and each file has dozens of links, that would be greatly appreciated.

12. Waaay back in the mists of time, when using QuarkXPress, I could copy a style to another paragraph with a key command. This saved a step ove

    I see on this forum that at one time InDesign offered this shortcut:
    1. Using the text tool, click in a paragraph.
    2. Hold Option & Shift, then click a Style Sheet formatted paragraph
    3. The paragraph that had the text tool in it is now formatted to the [Option/Shift] clicked paragraph's Style Sheet.

    I just tried it in ID CC 2017 with no luck. Now the Notes palette opens.

    Please bring it back. It was one of QkXP's best features, a major time saver. Way faster than opening the Styles palette and clicking on a choice.

    My toolbar is located on the right because I'm righthanded and placing it on the right means shorter distances when using the mouse. This means less stress on shoulders and arms.

    I have an idea to choose a tool even faster, while creating more workspace and less use of the mouse.

    What about a specific key (combination) useable for your non mouse hand (eg.ctrl+shift), to make the toolbar appear directly under the cursor. When you use the same key (combination) again or after you have chosen a tool, the toolbar closes.

    This way you will create more space in your workfield and you will minimize the need of using the mouse to get to the toolbar.

14. Text Wrap path Selection

    If we lock the Text Layer if it’s above the Objects’ Layer that has graphic elements on it, and we want to “Wrap” an object from that layer, we can see the Wrap Path which is Editable by Pen Tool & Direct Selection Tool,
    When Wrap Path is active and then we want to select just an anchor point by making a marquee selection from outside (like Illustrator) to select a single anchor point the path disappears and we see disappeared path even mouse click button is pressed, every time we will have to click on the anchor point to select it which is difficult and wastage of time.

15. Scale stroke proportionaly in object-based rule il liquid layout

    The stroke doesn't scale when changing page size either manually or with the page tool in object-based rule in the liquid layout. It does work in scale rule. It would be great if there was an option to choose between scaling the stroke or not.

    A preference choice to disable the application of local formatting. This setting would have fine tune control (similar to the eye dropper tool) to allow some local formatting, such as kerning.
    This feature would be ideal for templates as well as team based workflow.

17. Live preview when transforming elements

    In Illustrator, I am used to having a constant preview when moving and transforming objects instead of just overlays and boxes. Please integrate this too in InDesign as this is a de-facto standard in any modern graphics tool. It makes doing adjustments so much easier.

18. Master Pages need to have one more control

    Designing a brochure, at times i need the footer and header design etc. Master page is a huge tool was a huge help but i think it need one more feature. Master page should have the power to bring forward or entirely back of any design in layer.

20. Fix the display of "selected" pages in the Pages pane

    When the editing pane has focus, the "selected" page in the thumbnails should be the one where the insertion point is sitting (unless there's a selection that crosses the page boundary). Currently, the Pages panel inexplicably selects TWO pages whenever the insertion point is placed on a page (when using spreads). This creates problems when the user is working on the right page, and performs certain actions like starting a new section.

    Currently, that section will start on the wrong page; because the Pages pane has selected the left page as well as the right, the new section will start at the left page, instead of where the user actually invoked the command (on the right page).

    Auto-selecting the one page where the user places the insertion point would not preclude anyone from clicking on multiple thumbnails in the Pages tab and performing actions as they do now. When the user clicks back in the editing area, the pages pane would return to highlighting the page containing the insertion point as the selected one. This behavior already exists, but it's just erroneous and absurdly inconsistent: If you select three page thumbnails, and then click back in the editing area, the selected page thumbnails will indeed change... oh, but only if you happen to click on a page outside of the selected collection. Otherwise, nothing happens.

    And there's another problem, AKA another selection: There may be yet another selection highlight, on a parent page... which has nothing to do with either the editing pane or the page thumbnail that's also highlighted. That should never happen. With both child and parent pages shown as selected, what will the next user action apply to? He doesn't know.

    In summary, it's a very simple fix: When the user places the insertion point on a page in the editor (or the editor regains focus), select that ONE page in the Pages pane.
