Pathfinder operations working on open paths
Pathfinder should work with open paths. That would make it easy to cut a number of open paths to form. Can be very performant for preparing threaded text paths for curved prints like adhesive labels, stickers or price labels where text must follow the outer shapes.
Alternatively: Allow text wrapping with text on text paths!

Add a way in a book file to change the conditional text "Set" of all documents within the book at a global level.
Please add a way in a book file to change the conditional text "Set" of all documents within the book at a global level.
This way I can print "Product A" without having to open every document within the book and changing the "Set" to product A. Like wise for "Product B," etc.
An alternative would be to add it o the publish/print/export presets.

Add Anti-Alias Intent to text for graphic export
As web publishing has been an important part of InDesign since 5.5, it would be extremely helpful if anti-alias intent could be determined, either at a paragraph level or on output. Both Photoshop and Illustrator have this feature, and without it, export jpeg and png for web use is not up to publishing quality.
Relatedly, when an image is placed in a document at a scale other than 100%, it would be helpful if the downsampling/upsampling intent could similarly be chosen by the user.
Currently, the only way to produce publishable web materials from InDesign is to export a lossless…

alignment and custom footnotes etc
I would like to see some more feature as described below, so this powerful too will be a step ahead for an Advance Page Layout tool. Here are some of them:
Some custom footnotes so can can add daggers and other symbols exactly like MSWord not the current features. This should be like first symbol, then 1, 2, 3 etc.
Customizing Text box sequence so it will be more intuitive for numbering figures. Think about I've add 100 of figures numbering text box using numbering features, then at editing page need to rearrange/adding/remove some figures, in this it won't work…

Hide all text and picture box borders when hiding Guides.
I wish InDesign would hide all faint text and box borders when hiding the document Guides. I am forced to go to Overprint Preview to hide those, which slows down the design process, because Overprint Preview mode is very slow and not at all smooth to scroll through multiple book pages to preview designs without the distractions of seeing any faint text boxes. I don't see this ability in any of the Settings menus. Indesign 19.2, Mac Ventura 13.6.4

Save Preferences
For about 14/15 years I never had to reset preferences in InDesign.
Since CC2017 it's more or less once a week.
Colors disappearing.. panels blind or empty.. tools not working.. font now showing.
Panels self increasing size...But it seems we have to deal with it, so we probably need a way to SAVE PREFERENCES.
Save preferences in a moment everything work fine.. and restore it when (after just few days) nothing works anymore.Every time people have to reset preferences, they have to restore everything. UI colors, workspace, Application Frame (that mac users normally never use) Old Dialog way…
299 votesHi everyone,
InDesign provides an option to export and import User Settings, providing users with a smooth and enhanced experience to restore their custom settings if needed. The feature is now available in the latest InDesign 2024(v19.3.0.058)

Image Captions correctly (numerically) ordered in TOC
Currently it appears that numbered image captions that are anchored in text frames are sorted in a TOC according to location from left to right on a page regardless of image number ordering (ie logical numbered order of images may not be correctly sorted in the TOC. I would like to see the images sorted with reference to the 'logical' (numerical) order of the text anchors when the image caption text frames are anchored into a page text frame.

This will provide flexibility to locate image captions anywhere on the page while maintaining…2 votes -
Add an option to rasterize chosen graphic objects on export (especially vectors)
Often we have to work with vectors, and often they take up a lot of space, which leads to the growth of the final PDF document and the slow rendering of the document in browsers. The trick with reducing transparency, when we make the selected frames 99% opaque and turn on the flattener, does not always give a good quality result and can cause stitching.
I suggest adding the option "rasterize" to the settings of the style of the graphic frame, so during the export the vector object is replaced with a raster copy. The quality settings for…44 votes -

Make editing of hidden Conditional Texts easier
When working on texts with hidden conditional texts in it, I frequently have to do corrections inside the hidden texts either. It would be great, if hidden conditional text would be visible and editable e.g. in the story editor, without changing the visibility in the conditional text panel.
Or make it expandable in the story editor by clicking on the eye symbol ...

Tab Options
Right Align & Tabs
Allow for tabbing option for right-aligned Text that utilizes tabs to move through the tab stops from right to left, starting with the right-most tabs first and move left accordingly rather than moving to the left-most tab first then filling back in toward the right.1 vote -
A check box to Remove Local Formatting in an auto TOC.
You include a checkbox to Remove Forced Line Breaks in the text styles used for the auto TOC so why not one to Remove Local Formatting so the text style can display exactly the way you set it in the TOC styles dialogue. Now one must select all the text and set Character Style to None every time the TOC is updated which is inefficient. Thanks.

Need a Tab with GREP/Style Change setting instead of just decimal
SHORT DESCRIPTION: A new type of tab which will accept multiple align characters in a GREP-like statement and/or align on a style change.
The video provides a longer description. In tables involving figures and footnotes, a decimal tab is often not enough. What if the footnote is a number, or the footnote is surrounded by parenthesis? These are things which our clients specify for tables in the financial reporting industry, but apply to other industries as well.
If we could specify multiple characters to align upon, in a GREP-like "or" statement, that would help. Or the ability to align on…

Changing Paragraph Style in InCopy story does not prompt check-out dialog
InDesign 13.1 and 14.0 both exhibit this behavior.
If you have an InCopy story that is not checked out to you, and you attempt to change a paragraph or character style, the following happens:
- The style change does not take effect (this is correct)
- The newly-selected style appears to be selected in the paragraph style panel (incorrect)
- The "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" dialog does not appear. (incorrect)
- I expect the "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?"…

Online InDesign document for client text edits — like InCopy but online without the need for technical know-how or files to move around
I wish there was a way to post InDesign files online that would easily allow proofreaders, editors, clients or anyone without a lot of technical know-how to log in and make text edits. Freeing up designers from spending countless hours making text edits.
We tried InCopy, but we store files on a shared server and move files up and down through a project management tool. Being able to properly move the InDesign and linked icml files was way too confusing for our writers and proofreaders and out of the question for clients.
When we work on PPT presentations, we post…

Table numbering and easier cross-reference/text anchor setup in tables
It would be nice to be able to automatically number a specific row by just pressing a button, instead of using the "End Nested Style Here" command and copying/pasting in the following rows. It would also be nice if the corresponding column would read the number and be able to set up a text anchor for a paragraph number cross-reference.

footnotes saving space
Can we make the footnotes text in 2 to 4 column, or run-in footnotes, because some books has too many footnotes, if a 3 or 4 word note occupies a line so we loose space. This will save space in long text books.
