1. Keep saved video attributes when opening packaged file and relinking media

   I am working on documents that are published online, with video and sound features. If a file is packaged and sent to other members of a team, upon opening the Indesign file, you are required to relink all media in the Links folder. However, some features are then lost, like the Poster frame settings for Video files (set in the Media panel).
   It would also be useful to be able to have the option to have sound on or off when publishing online, without having to do this in another application.

2. Choosing the number separator yourself

   When you translate a pricing table the decimal comma might change to a decimal point. E.g. German to English. Even when i changed the language of the file to english, there was no way for me to change the decimal comma to a decimal point. I used a GREP search and replace for that. But as soon as the linked excel table updates, i have to remember to do the GREP search. I managed to change the decimal seperator in excel, but indesign seems to override it by using the systems language.

3. Preflight profile to target certain problem fonts

   Would be nice to have a preflight profile or be able to customize a preflight profile to target certain fonts that are used in linked pdfs from customers. We Use Enfocus to process art and whenever Customers use Free or unlicensed versions of a certain font it causes Enfocus server to crash. Identifying these fonts when first placed in indesign would save our designers and printers time and many headaches. I do get warnings every once in a while, but it doesn't catch all of them. A preflight profile as a secondary check would be most helpful.

4. color profile black listing and/or whitelisting in preflight

   Not everything that is RGB is bad in today's print publishing. While we certainly don't want to use sRGB images if we can avoid it, there are some good options for color spaces in media-neutral design workflows (e.g. eciRGB, Adobe RGB).
   Being warned that certain undesirable color profiles are being used in linked images, and skipping those that are considered okay, should improve any modern desktop publishing workflow.
   A "missing/no profile" option should also be included, as these cases completely defeat the purpose of color management workflows.

5. Fix "Analytics" on Publish Online

   The company I work for creates ebooks and then updates it by request of the clients. The links can't be changed as people use them in their communication so we have to update the ebooks instead of uploading new ones. By doing this we're unfortunately resetting all the analytics for the ebook. Trying to get the analytics with a delay of "approximately 90 minutes" is a joke in itself. So if I need to update a document I can't wait 90 minutes to eventually see the analytics and then save them somewhere. I suggest fixing this and turning it into a professional analytics tool.

6. Want to check if Adobe has been 'hacked' because I've received an unusual email supposedly from an Adobe ID Product Manager

   After sitting in the phone cue for an hour because there are no appropriate option choices for 'contact Adobe about suspicious emails asking for detailed questions about my account'. I thought I'd post it here because the email claims to have links to the InDesign team. Email content raises a number of security flags which require IT in my company to check it out and as I am IT, I tried - but if you can't get through to anyone at Adobe and there's nowhere to deal with security issues in the 'contact' section of Adobe, then guess I will be blocking the sender and deleting all traces of the suspicious email. Hope it wasn't anything important you people wanted to ask.

7. Package convert images to specific format

   For architects, urban designers, and artists, InDesign has become an essential tool. However, our needs differ from those of graphic designers, introducing unique challenges. We often maintain specific folder structures for original files, repurposing them for various mediums - be it print, websites, or emails. For instance, when delivering a poster, it's inefficient to include large PSD images in both the 'links' folder and another location. Notably, for academic submissions, recipients often don't require layered files; they need images suitable for websites, emails, etc. Considering that most competition or submission layouts remain static after submission, a "convert images to a specific format when packaging" feature would be a game changer. 8. Add option to embed placed INDD like other placed files

   Indesign can embed all linked files into an INDD, except for at least one file type: INDD. You place an external INDD, you can't embed it. If you share the main INDD with other people, they have the external files separately, but Indesign cannot find them, because of different paths.

   Also, embedding files into an INDD is used to create a snapshot or final version, which isn't possible in this case. The reason to embed an INDD instead of a PDF created from it is the work flow. If you modify the external INDD, which may be used in several main INDDs, you would have to export a new PDF every time.

   Please Make it possible for InDesign to read aic-files, since it is a huge part of working with InDesign to Place ai-files

   The easiest way is just to allow InDesign to open the "gate" to the "cloud-folder" and read it from there, since it is already done from Illustrator and Photoshop.
   another way could be th make a "ghost-file" in the local CC-folder that shows a mirror or links to the file from there.

   And there is possibly a lot of other opportunities aswell.

   I just don't understand that two programs that is ment for each other like that has been made so much more deficit to work across. the cloud-based function has made the workflow much more difficult as of now.

    while working on a document, it occasionally becomes necessary to apply a transformation to each page in a sequence of pages, for example, rotating an instance of a linked file on every other page, scaling the content of certain pages to prepare for printing in a slightly modified format, etc.

    It would be very useful to have a button that performs what is essentially the "repeat last action" or "repeat sequence again", but rather than applying said function to a selected object, records the marquis selection area as part of the sequence, and perform the selection and action on each page specified in a dialog box.

    some additional useful options would be a way to highlight any pages that did not produce a similar result to the first action for review to make catching user errors in specifying the pages to act upon.

11. Would like to add a separate gradient applied just to text, not related to textframe, just to the word (or any textcharacter)

    I would like to apply a gradient to characters and words only, not related to the textframe in which they are printed.

    If I have one or a few words in a gradient designed, and due to a textedit the word flows to the other (or a previous) line, the gradient appears different than how I designed it.

    At this time it is either only related to the textframe, or I'd have to convert the text to outlines.

    Or, as a workaround I can take the word out, place it in a separate textframe, apply the gradient, and place it as a linked frame in the text. That is way to much work.

    A separate item to make it possible to apply the gradient of choice just to any character (and word) would be very welcome.

12. Lossless GIFs, Further Customizable Shapes, Added Photoshop Tools, Improved Publish Online

    My wish is that InDesign is bolstered with all the presentation design features necessary to compete against Canva / Figma / ReadyMag / Google Slides. Here are just a few suggestions:

    1. GIFs (or any media) should not revert to it's original form when published online. GIFs with rounded corners, GIFs filling shapes, GIFs blended with other layers - should have all the same editing effects as a still image.

    2. All preset shapes should be able to be adjusted smoothly and intuitively into others - and still capable of being filled with imagery / text.

    3. PLEASE add more of photoshop's design tools to InDesign. Such as perspective warp / free transform / noise / liquify / 3D text elements. I'd love to be able to further customize the style of text and imagery all within InDesign without having to spend time creating elements outside it.

    4. Finally, please allow further customizing of documents when published online, such as: Scrolling horizontally / vertically through document, lossless effects, category jumping, customizable links, comment / edit suggestions on slides.

13. Capacity to ignore external plug-in

    Hi all.
    I have a work made in Aquafadas (now Rakuten). The plug-in for digital publishing will not be developer again because the brand wil close the business. So, I switch the plug-in to another one (InPublishing) and everything goes fine on 2020. But with InDesign 2021 it seems to be impossible to work. InDesign 2021 made a ceck on files and it seems impossibile to add a file made with a plug-in that is not installed on a Book.
    That's very stupid, because It seems that I cannot work with 2021 because the original plug-in is not installed. BTW the plug-in does not exist anymore so i cannot use 2021 or more?
    That is a big problem because for the future I'm linked to 2020.

    The thing I asked is to cut the ceck on files in 2021 like in 2020, so I can use my file with InDesign 2021. By the way, it's not an Adobe business if I use a plug-in or not!

14. We need much more comprehensive word/character counts functionality

    We need much better support for word counts than simply selecting some text or an active story and getting feedback on it through the info panel.

    As others suggest, we need support for Books, entire documents, I want to know how many words are in tables, footnotes, how many words are duplicated from master pages, give me a breakdown of words by style/font/colour so that I can use these parameters to easily subtract them from a count.

    Pretty much like Illustrator when nothing is selected can give you a breakdown of information document wide, and then specifics when you select objects. This is how the info panel needs to be updated so that if I select a bunch of text frames mixed with an assortment of other items, InDesign is smart enough to decipher and relay information relevant to what it is I have selected be that words, characters, lines, paragraphs through to even number of rows or columns, tables, images etc.. Then give me that as it applies to the whole document when I don't have anything selected.

    If a feature like this would be too stressful on system responsiveness/useability then move the requested enhancements in the File info section from the flyout of the Info panel as the info there is pretty pants and could be made so much more informative

    Swatches, Styles, Images (embedded versus linked), Pages, White space calculator to infer coverage of a page. The list could go one but you get the picture.

    Let make it a bit more useful eh?

    In Indesign, it would be interesting in the 'text block' to have the option 'Adapt the text to the block'. The option exists for the image block 'to adapt the image to the block proportionally' to adapt this option to the 'text block' would be a saving of time and the possibility to automate a good number of works. For example, to change from A6 to A5 via the linked article system it works great with the image block and not at all with the text block. The only possibility of action with the 'Text block' is to enlarge or reduce it according to the amount of text you want.
    I would also like to be able to choose to enlarge or reduce the text in a 'text block' according to the size of the text block and not according to the amount of text that the block can or must receive.
    If it can put you on the track this function exists at CorelDraw when one has text in a 'block text' with a right click of the mouse one can adapt the text to the size of 'block text' and according to the amount of text in the text block increases or decreases the text size proportionally in the 'text block'.
    In the hope that my need and wish is realized in one of your next update of Indesign.

17. support languages of Vanuatu, which are currently very difficult to typeset, with no text flow

    AFAICT, InCopy (and InDesign) do not currently support several writing systems, which makes font design for those scripts difficult. The avoiuli script of Vanuatu, for example, which is boustrophedon and can change from btm-to-top to top-to-btm. I'm working with a professional typographer, and trying to design a font that can't be implemented by any word processor that we know of means that a lot of choices in the design are probably not optimal. The best option currently seems to be placing a hard return at the end of each line, with manual RTL/LTR control, and sorting the lines in reverse in many cases. That messes with text flow and makes InCopy/InDesign essentially useless for publication. It's actually easier to typeset in a spreadsheet! (That lets you sort by line number, whereas in InCopy, in order to rearrange the text one needs to cut and paste each line of text individually.)

    Feel free to contact me about requirements, but basically we need boustrophedon support. Texts may start LTR or RTL, and may proceed bottom-to-top or top-to-bottom. Formal text direction is RTL bottom-to-top, but under Latin influence LTR top-to-bottom is usual in informal texts -- though still boustrophedon. Glyphs flip direction (mirror-image) when the line direction changes, though of course that could be handled by the font. It's also a linking script, which needs to be kept in mind when changing direction.

    I don't expect much from MS Word, and LibreOffice is volunteer-run and does not have the resources for minority-language support. It would be nice if an elite product like InCopy could provide support to unsupported languages. MW and others might then follow suite.

    A new feature that allows the user to choose to open more than one InCopy document at once in the option 'File > Open Recent' would be very useful.

    I've posted this request last year (https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/45136654-open-more-than-one-document-per-session-in-open), but nobody reached me.

    It would be very useful to have this option in InCopy as I always work with chapters (usually 8) that are stored in different subfolders; that is, it is not possible to go to a single folder/directory, select the eight chapters that I will edit and open them whenever I need to edit these chapters (and I always need to have the 8 chapters open because I need to standardize terms, acronyms, etc. in all of them, saving time). Needless to mention, obviously I can't move the files I'm going to edit into the same/single folder as those files contain links to images and other details that prevent me from considering such a solution.

    I'm an exclusive InCopy user (I'm a copyeditor, not a designer), so any alternatives (including opening/editing such files in InDesign or similar possible solutions) are out of the question. It is also worth mentioning that, as a professional copyeditor, I receive many books per month to be edited over the course of weeks (so that, over the course of days, when turning the computer off and on, I have to open each of the chapters one by one each time); so it's not a one-time problem.

    I recognize that opening more than one file at once already demands a high computer/RAM processing, and opening 8 files/tabs may require a longer 'initialization', but an option that allows selecting, in 'Recent files', more than a file for them to be opened sequentially would be of great help.

19. PDF Password Print (BUG and New Feature)

    I report here the problem and the new functionality...

    PDF Password (BUG and New Feature)

    When I export a document to PDF from Indesign (or illustrator), I would need to password protect the Copy/Modification of the elements in my PDF, at the same time allow READING and PRINTING of that PDF document.

    All this is currently ALLOWED BY "INDESIGN"! in PDF export.
    When I create a PDF with these limitations, I open it in ACROBAT and I can SEE and PRINT IT.
    When I try to MODIFY IT, Acrobat asks me for a PASSWORD.
    ALL RIGHT.

    THE PROBLEM: Since most designers use PDFs to create not only digital products to download, view and print at home, but very often use PDFs to send their PDFs to external printing services (Digital printing or Typography).

    The problem is that these Services often use INDESIGN/ILLUSTRATOR to layout and imposition documents (with a few pages), or more sophisticated Imposition Software.
    This problem occurs when the PDF is imported into INDESIGN/ILLUSTRATOR for layout, the PDF is not imported if the password is not entered.
    Given that the PDF has been inserted with the possibility of Viewing and Printing only, why is a simple import (from a linked PDF) not allowed???

    The password function at this point becomes useless for this purpose. I would like to protect the documents from being able to prevent the printers from "reusing" my contents (it often happens, bypassing the author of the creative content), but at the same time allow them to Print my document, since that is their job.

    How to solve it? Is it possible to change this procedure? Or put a password only for printing and importing ??

    It seems stupid, but in practice believe me this is the real useful function for that password.

    Then if in other ways, software or things of various kinds it would be possible to bypass the password by decrypting it, (I don't know how it's done, but they tell me it would be possible), well that's another matter that doesn't apply to this request, but it's certainly something not for the common user, but for programmers who are experts in decryption.
