  1. Indesign Autosave

    An autosave feature in Indesign would be a great addition. This could be added under the file handling menu with some options for it. A slider that allows you to set the intervals of the autosave. It would be a great addition to the auto recovery, you'd be surprised how often people forget to hit save or close it and accidentally not save when prompted.

  3. make book remember relative (to book file) chapter documents path

    book should "remember" documents paths relative to book own file path.
    After copying whole folder with book and documents files to new place, the book is opening chapters from old place instead of the one, that they are.
    Just like it is in Framemaker.

    To omit this error, you have to change the name of old folder.

  4. Style group support via xml import

    So far as I know, InDesign does not support style groups via xml import.

    Why is this usefull?
    If styles in a InDesign template organized into groups, we cannot refer with the attribute aid:pstyle and aid:cstyle to these styles and automatically apply these during xml import.

  6. Stop exporting div IDs in epubs

    Those gazillion div ids all have to be removed and replaced with nice, neat, simple classes. PLEASE remain professional software for professional designers, and stop trying to cater to people who don't want to learn anything about .epubs and can't tell the difference between good and bad. Trying to help them really mucks things up for the rest of us.

  7. InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text (Accessibility)

    InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text

    InDesign has no way of setting actual text. This can only be done in PDF. Actual text is set when acronyms are used. Access technologies such as screen readers cannot properly read acronyms such as USA. They voice them as words, like "Youusah." Actual text has to be set for the document to be read correctly. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for setting actual text in Acrobat is as…

  8. Generate QR code, new feature: add image in center

    It is possible to put a small image in the center of QR codes. It the image is small enough, the QR code remains readable. It would be nice to be able to include an image with the Generate QR Code feature of Indesign. The size should be adaptable. Indesign either checks if the code still works or the user has to test this. If the image is an SVG icon (e.g. the LinkedIn logo), it should be possible to change its color.

  9. Please change wording for German translation of forced line break

    The term »forced line brake« has been wrongly translated to German quite a while ago. There exist two terms in German for the »forced line break« that lead to confusion among users because they are used interchangeably.

    One is (translated) »hard line brake« the other one »soft line brake«. But what in a line break is soft or hard? This makes no sense at all.

    It would be great to just use the literal translation of the English term which is »Erzwungener Zeilenumbruch« (SHIFT + Return).

    Please find attached instances of the use in the German UI. Thanks!

  10. Add PDF tags in Character styles

    In documents, we often have characters that need to be artifacted in the exported PDF, such as:

    Decorative bullets that aren't a list.

    The "end of story" glyph (called an end of proof sign, U+220E)

    Dot leaders between tabs or in TOCs

    And just about any other glyph a designer uses for pure design, not semantic content.

    Add PDF Export Tags to Character Styles and let us designate these items to be artifacted, as well as apply these other inline character-level tags:

    <Formula>
    <Quote>
    <Reference>
    <Code>
    <BibEntry>

  12. Alt-text inside Links Panel

    Can we have a column added to the Links Panel that lists the alt-text of the image so I can open/edit it from the links panel rather than finding it inside my document?

  13. Share several separate files as one (using Book feature possibly) in Share for Review

    The Share for Review is a fantastic feature.
    We publish magazines that are designed in several different files for each section. It would be great if you could combine files and share for review (possibly using the Book feature). Currently the Book features allows you to create a single PDF from several separate files into one.

    This option would be great when Sharing for Review instead of creating a PDF.

  14. Share for review - A Great New Feature

    I just started testing the new Share for Review and am really liking it so far - very smooth and an upgrade over the Publish online feature which I tried but found was no better than just saving a PDF to the cloud and sharing that. I like that in Share for Review I can just hit update on an active document. I am hoping over time to see the following added to this great new feature:

    • The ability to allow clients to download a PDF version
    • More Annotation tools (Highlights, cross-out, underlines, etc...)
    • The Ability to Create Versions
    • Bonus…

  15. Moving the IDLK temp file

    It would be nice to have an option in Preferences to be able to move the temporary IDLK file which is automatically created at the same level as the edited file. Kind of like Photoshop.
    Because if the edited file is located in a DropBox or GoogleDrive (or other) folder, Dropbox or GoogleDrive spend their time updating this file, which is very detrimental in terms of bandwidth and processor occupancy.

    Thank you

  16. Placed pdf loses interactivity features and accessibility tags.

    When PDFs are placed into an InDesign layout and then the entire layout is exported to PDF, the placed PDFs are converted to <Figure> tags in the final PDF.

    There are many time when designers must incorporate an existing PDF into their documents, such as:

    -- Multi-page PDF of an existing document.

    -- A pre-made PDF AcroForm

    -- In annual reports, an official letter from a president, commissioner, or other authority.

    -- In financial reports, the required letter from the accounting firm as well as the financial balance sheets.

    In these above cases, the placed PDFs are official documents that…

    Need More Info  ·  amaarora responded

    Hi,
    What all things would you like PDF to retain? (alt text, tags and what else?)

    Currently when PDF is imported, its imported as a single graphic.

    Would you want the tags and alt text to be mapped to their correct assets in InDesign? and those tags and alt text be also editable from within InDesign after PDF is imported?

    Or should they be remapped and restored once the document with placed PDF is again exported to PDF from InDesign?

    Would want to know more about the proposed solution / workflow

    Thanks

  17. Enable HTML5 to be imported into InDesign and exported as HTML5 / EPUB3

    Currently I'm using in5 to insert HTML5 into InDesign and then export it out as HTML5. I'm also using CircularFlo to insert HTML5 into InDesign and export it out as EPUB3. The funny thing is that the HTML5 that I'm importing to InDesign actually all came from the HTML5 output from Adobe Captivate. It is a little bit ironic that I want to combine Adobe files and make them work together but I've to use external parties plugin to do that. I'm very sure that in the future more and more people will be inserting HTML5 into InDesign either to…

  18. Adobe Fonts Auto Activation/Deactivation

    As a printing company, I have a wide variety of customers using a wide variety of fonts including ones that are part of an Adobe CC subscription. When I open an InDesign file that uses Adobe (online) fonts, give us a preference setting to auto-activate those online Adobe fonts AND to deactivate those fonts when the InDesign file is closed. I can't have a bunch of fonts activated all the time as they COULD interfere with an older version of the font causing type reflow!

  19. Add unicode categories to the list of available GREP choices

    If you've ever had to write out a GREP code and weren't sure of the character, you can click on the @ to call up a list of known codes to choose from while in the find/change menu OR the GREP styles panel.
    However, there is a selection that is missing that GREP in InDesign is known to handle, and that is unicode categories:
    https://www.regular-expressions.info/unicode.html
    for example, if I type into the GREP find field - right now - the following code:
    \p{Zs}
    I know that InDesign's GREP will find all spaces except tabs and returns. However, this isn't an…

  20. Properties Panel - make it customisable

    I'd like to be able to add things that I use often to it.

    For example, with nothing selected, it has the options for the Document Layout.
    I would like to add to that to include

    Export PDF - and select my proof settings

    So in essence - I could add the options to export to
    Print Ready PDF
    Proof PDF
    Image file format

    etc. - just to be able to add those things would make this panel even better.

    There are other things I'd like to add to this property panel - but that's the general idea, and everyone…
