  1. Improving the various options of footnotes

In one of the latest versions of InDesign, endnotes have undergone a significant upgrade as they have become live endnotes than static endnotes. But unfortunately, the footnotes are left far behind.
We really ask that you rewrite the footnote feature so that the following features are possible:
    1) Select all the footnotes at once (by Cmd + A or Ctrl + A)
    2) Option to split footnotes into a number of columns is different from the main text (not just span footnotes but complete control over the number of columns)
    3) Continuous footnotes in the same paragraph (run-in).
    4) Possibility…

  2. Please add this function: Insert Special Character > Markers > Last page

This would add the ability to insert a 'Page A of Z' (Z being the last page in the document) on the masterpage. So a page would show 'Page 7 of 24'.
Today I can put 'Page A of 24' in the master, but if the number of pages change I have to change the number manually and it seems this would be easily implemented?

    Please :)

  3. Export to image file with naming option to include artboard

Why, when you can do this in other Adobe products, it does not exist in the LAYOUT software?????????

HOW IS THIS NOT NATIVE ALREADY??? Please make this your priority for next update. I am sure many on this forum use ID for exporting several if not 30 or so sizing layouts for a single ad or social media space????

  4. Lock the ability of InCopy users to change things like kerning, leading and character compression

InCopy users sometimes take too many liberties with their abilities to change copy. Flowing copy is one thing, but shoehorning in more or less copy than intended allows for too much grey area, and it can take more time to go back and fix what they've broken than it would if that ability was limited for them. If InCopy settings in an InDesign document had check boxed that toggle which abilities InCopy users would have (and grey out disallowed settings), that would be wonderful.

  5. Set default image editor

When editing a lot of placed images, we have to specify the right editor each time, over and over. InDesign has to generate a long list of possible editors (and other apps that are never uses to edit a photo, such as browsers). This takes time.
Please make a preference to set the default editor - and a keyboard shortcut to load the selected image in that editor.

I know, we can tell the OS to open all images with e.g. Photoshop, but that is not a real solution, since it breaks some other workflows.

    Just give the possibility to…

  6. InDesign to create powerfull presentations

InDesign should compite with Keynote/powerpoint, or make it easier to export from indesign to those apps.

Animated stuff is actually a need to communicate. Most of us prefer InDesign to create presentations, beacuse you can get a much bigger detail of design, than in powerpoint or keynote.

The point is that the combination of InDesign/PDF give you some limits that can be done in keynote/PP. That is a pain point for me. As a solution,
    1. this combination should compite those apps with the same features
    2. Having an adobe software to presentations, but we still need a format (pdf)…

  7. Share for Review with Slug Area

I use slugs with my layouts and clients reference the information there, as well as vetting production elements like crops and color swatches. I would like the option to Share for Review with crop and slug area included.

  8. Color-code paragraph styles

I'm working on a huge training book with dozens of styles. I've stashed them in style groups, but it is still a chore, even inside a group, to scroll, scroll, scroll to try to find the style I need -- and it is also a chore to switch among the style groups themselves -- as many of the styles are used on every page due to the nature of the material. It would be SO VERY HELPFUL if one could color-code paragraph styles (a la the Layers palette) so that when there are this many styles, the ones a person…

  9. Adjust Text Frame With Type Tool

It KILLS me every time I input or type text in INDD and get the cursed overset text error, but I have to switch to the Selection Tool to reframe the text box, then switch back to the Type Tool and continue. PowerPoint and even Google Slides allow you to move your cursor near the boundaries and adjust the size of the text frame without switching tools.

What's more, switching to different tools while editing type is slightly annoying. Because you can't hit 'v' for selection tool, you either have to click the selection tool or click outside the text…

You can easily achieve this without the need to switch to the Selection Tool.
Hold down the Ctrl key (while you are in text edit mode or even when you are not in text edit mode or when the text frame that you want to resize is not even selected). When you hover the mouse over the text frame, you will see Resizing handles (shown as 9 solid points on the bounding box) – you can drag to resize the text frame.
    Hope this helps.

  10. truly floating frames such as are available in FrameMaker

FrameMaker has a fabulous option for anchored frames that allows it to truly "float" in the sense that if the text flow causes the anchor to be too close to the bottom of the page, the floating frame will appear on the following page.
With InDesign the frame will stay on the same page, appear at least partially above the anchor, in which case the text-wrap doesn't get applied so an image inside the frame would for example cover part of the text.
So I would request to implement FrameMaker's version of floating frames!

Much like the 'Object Layer Options', can we please have a 'Linked Pages Options' so we can toggle which page of a PDF/INDD file is shown?

  14. Put back scroll arrows on the scrollbars in InDesign

With the update from InDesign 2020 to InDesign 2021 I noticed that the scroll arrows at the end of the right and bottom scroll bars have disappeared (see Image 1 (ID). In Illustrator 2021 however they are still present (see Image 2 (Ill).
I can't find any setting in the preferences to toggle them on or off.
I use these arrows frequently and the omission of these arrows in the new InDesign are very annoying to me.
Hope to hear from you soon.

  15. Review link will be deleted after saving Copy

Bug: If you generate a review link and save after this a copy of the .indd. Then the review link is deleted and you have to generate it again. This new link is different from the first one.

I think The review link for the original file should stay the same after saving a copy.

  16. Automatic version control for Share for Review

Would it be possible for InDesign to apply version control (like GitHub) to Share for Review? What if, for example, designers could choose a versioning standard in the preferences panel (e.g. 1.0.1 vs 2020.v1.1) which is then activated when you Share for Review and updated every time the link is updated?

  17. Collaborating on translating

Hi everyone! First I have to say I love all the new features that are slowly being integrated into InDesign. But in all my honesty I really miss one..

We now can enjoy Share for review which I really love on getting comments from my clients. But what I would love to have is a online tool where my colleagues can enter translation for the file I worked on. Now I export files to pdf and make them in to a word file but that workflow takes a lot of time.

I know tools like redokun.com but they are expensive…

  18. Store GREP strings in Library

I often have to use the same long GREP strings in multiple documents and for multiple projects (eg. custom targeting of words and/or characters at the end of a paragraph to avoid orphans). Depending on the context, it can get complicated. I currently have a spreadsheet so I don't have to reformulate every time I need one, but I would like to store them as easily as character or paragraph styles so I can reference them again and again.
