  1. InDesign needs language support for Burmese (Myanmar).

InDesign needs language support for Burmese (Myanmar). The corporation I am with is doing a lot of translation currently from English to Burmese and InDesign cannot render the characters correctly. We would also be happy to help fund getting this done as well as provide access to our Burmese translation team. No one wants to type set books and manuals in Microsoft Word...

InDesign 2020 includes a new text engine to support five new South East Asian languages: Thai, Burmese, Lao, Khmer, and Sinhala.
Your documents can now include text composed in these languages.
Hope you find this new feature useful in your work.

We’re marking this “Feature Request” as Completed.

  2. BUG/Feature: Make "Fit Frame to Content" finally work with rotated/skewd content

This is an oversight for…like how many versions?

Try to rotate your image inside your picture box, and use Object » "Fit Frame to Content".

Normally, with no modification with the content, the feature works well. But if theres rotation, geez, its way off!

  3. Open failed (.inlk): Dialog "Open As Copy?"

Ever "browsed" thru a fileserver to doubleclick the document from Finder/Explorer?
Bad for you, if that file is in use by someone else, because:
Now you can redo the browsing within InDesign, just to access the "open as copy" within the file-open-dialog.

What if the "No access, maybe locked."-warning can be a dialog like this: "No access, maybe locked. Try to open as Copy?"

  4. Make layercompositions targetable with scripting

I want to change my applied alpha-mask (psd/tif).

What I have to do is browse to the image, reimport it (with import options true), just to select another alpha mask.

While scripting this, I found out, that the DOM is missing the layercomps. If a layercomp was set in InDesign away from default, re-importing a image by script will losse the selected layercomposition.

  5. Collaborate files in the start "Workspace" (quick shortcut)

In the Workspace "start' you can show your indesign files from de cloud. Called CC-Files. I like this feature. It works fine, but don't work with shared (collaborate) folder.
I see al my cc-documents in the cloud, except the files in the shared (collaborate) folder.

Please make it possible. Otherwise, the idea of the cloud does not work.

    Thanks

  6. Anchored illustrations

The layout of anchored Illustrations can NOT be moved around freely on the page it is anchored on. If you try to move the graphic around on the page or next page, the text is obscured or destroyed - the text is under the graphic. If you use the "inline" function the result is the same. The ability to move the "anchored" graphic anyway on the current page, page before it or the next page without the text being effected in any way. The TEXT should re-position itself around the image wherever move it.

  7. Indexes

When creating an Index, you are limited to populate ONLY one Index style format. If you want create more Indexes like the Index format, you can't, you are forced to use the Table of Contents style. Look at MS Word, you can create a General Index, a Index of Cases and Index of Figures.

My suggestion: improve the Index function with the ability to create multiple Indexes, that follow the actual Index format (not the Table of Contents Format)

  8. Make the start/end of a stroke highlight when you choose an arrowhead for the start/end in the Stroke panel

It is very frustrating when applying an arrowhead to a stroke when you don't know what InDesign calls the start or end of that stroke. It's not so bad when you've drawn a straight line but a number of times, we edit shapes to create complex lines. Then it's a case of trial and error as to which end you place the arrow (and most of the time, typically, you end up choosing the wrong end. I know there is the ability to swap these but it would be useful if when you hover over either the start or end…

  9. Threading Text

Add an option for threading text that once you've started the process you can just click ANYWHERE in the box to keep threading. It's very difficult to find that tiny red box in the corner when you want to thread 30+ boxes.

  10. Spellcheck only "real" copy.

Add an option in "Check Spelling" to tell it to "ignore automatically generated placeholder text". So that Spellcheck would flag only real copy. I often use both in my documents and it's hard to check a 40-pg document when it keeps stopping at several paragraphs of placeholder text.

  11. Auto speads into pages

Sometime we have to design in spreads then output for print in pages. This means with a spread you have to add bleed to the right of a left hand page and add bleed to the left of right pages when manually breaking the pages apart.

It would save time if Indesign 1- split all speads into pages and 2 -
extended any image/ coloured boxes to the left/ right by the amount specified in the bleed preferences.

Off course after right clicking inside TOC text.

  14. Apply controlable gradients within table rows, coloums and cells.

Is it possible to have easily adjustable gradient fills in rows, coloums and cells within Indesign tables?

  15. Only align last line to grid

I often use captions (in a separate text frame) aligned at the bottom of the page with the bottom line of the body text and/or an illustration. If the leading of captions and body text is different – which is often the case – It would be useful to be able to align only the last line of the caption to the baseline grid just as it is possible to "only align first line to grid.".

  16. Scheduled Export & Scheduled Export Queue

Sometimes with larger documents, Exporting can slow down Indesign, or can even render my computer useless at this time.

It would be a great option to be able to schedule the Export option for a time of my choice (at night when I know I wont be using my computer for example) as to not slow the computer down when I need to use it most. I envision the file still needing to be left open in Indesign for it to schedule and export correctly... But what I imagine is you would still choose all your options and everything as…

  17. Multi Export

An export option that would allow the user to select multiple options for exporting their document, in one simple 'Multi-Export' option.

    An idea of how this would look could be in the 'Export' dialog box, the user would be able to check a box that would enable 'Multi Export'. This would mean you can choose multiple methods to export in one easy opportunity in the Dialog Box. An example of this would be;

I, the designer or user of InDesign need to send a client a Medium Resolution copy of the file before we hit print, but I also want…

  18. Please, please, please support Emacs-style key bindings...

...at least for macOS. Virtually all macOS apps, especially those developed by Apple, support Emacs-style key binding that are incredibly useful for text navigation and text selection purposes. As an almost daily use of InDesign—and a 26-year employee of Adobe—I would very much like to see this supported. Most of the commands involve the use of the "control" key, which appears to be unused for InDesign keyboard shortcuts, so this is likely to be a no-brainer.

  19. Prevent fonts from becoming bitmap when copied into InDesign or Illustrator

Why does a font in InDesign become bitmapped when copied into Illustrator; or the other way around - Illustrator into InDesign?

In Illustrator, why is there no keyboard command for FIND AND REPLACE as there are in other Adobe applications.

  20. Bring Back the DPI!

    Dear Adobe,
How could you get rid of the term DPI, especially in InDesign, and replace it with PPI?!!!! As a print designer for the last 15 years, it breaks my heart to see that the premiere software company for designers has abandoned a term that is part of the fundamental lexicon of graphic design. I am a print designer at a CA State University and it kills me that our graphic design students graduate with an BA in Art/Graphic Design without having set foot inside a print shop! Now, the software they use to layout printed pieces doesn't even…
