  2. Add features to draft legal briefs

Legal filings are just complicated, cross-linked books.

Lawyers have to follow court rules when typesetting appellate briefs.
    See e.g., http://www.ca2.uscourts.gov/clerk/case_filing/rules/rules_home.html
    https://www.supremecourt.gov/filingandrules/rules_guidance.aspx

WordPerfect has a few useful features: see "Legal Toolbar" https://www.wordperfect.com/en/product/professional-edition/#features

You should add a feature to create a Table of Authorities (ToA). The ToA lists each authority cited along with every page on which it is cited. The ToA has different sections for different kinds of authorities, e.g., cases, statutes, etc.

The best way would be to have InDesign identify authorities/citations. Most lawyers follow the Bluebook. https://www.legalbluebook.com/default.aspx
Others follow the RedBook or the MaroonBook.

    Make selecting, dragging, and dropping…

  3. Save dialog filename box width

For the love of mercy, PLEASE make the Save/Save As title dialog box widen with the window! I almost never have enough room to see the full filename, which means it takes additional clicks/keypresses to see the end.

  4. Removal of direct selection function in images

    Hi,
it would be possible to disable the moving of an image when I select the central point (it automatically activates the direct selection) and this is very annoying.

sorry for the english, but I used the google translator.

  5. Color Picker Shortcut

There are a bunch of ways to select color in InDesign, but the easiest and omnipotent way is using color picker, unfortunately, there's no way to call it out in Indesign unless you double-click the fill/stroke icon in the tools panel

and theres no way to add a customised shortcut to the color picker panel as well. I really wish to see this feature in future InDesign

  6. Turn paths into guides with the right click menu "Make guides" like in Illustrator.

Pretty self explanatory. It's very useful for example if you need a marquee or an odd shape to serve you as a guide and most importantly, the snapping in InDesign between a line and a guide is so different and so hard to snap to a path.

  7. Enable slanted headers in tables

Right now, in order to create a "slanted" header for tables (see attached graphic) you either have to create a separate table and slant the entire object, or create a slanted effect by using lines and text boxes. It would be great if there was an option to slant the entire row of text in a table.

  8. EPUB CSS output could be improved quite a lot

So I’m currently in charge of Readium CSS, which is a project related to Readium 2 (link: https://github.com/readium/readium-2), a complete rewrite of Readium SDK, which you may know in the form of a Chrome app – this Chrome app is actually advised by InDesign engineers in the InDesign forums whenever a rendering issue pops up so I assume InDesign engineers know it exists.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of CSS issues piling up right now and InDesign’s output could really do with some significant improvements to allow for better cross-platform support and rendering. Indeed, Readium 2/CSS is meant to…

  9. Content Aware Fitting as an Auto-Fit option

A bit of a scripting request, but also as a feature of vanilla InDesign, it's not available. Auto-Fit currently only supports the following properties:
    CONTENTTOFRAME
    FILL_PROPORTIONALLY
    PROPORTIONALLY
    NONE

It would be super cool to be able to apply 'CONTENTAWAREFIT' as an Auto-Fit option on an empty frame.

  10. Media Panel - PDF options of Video playback

Would be good if you could have more control over the behaviour of a video once output to PDF.

Currently all videos properties are set to "disable Content is selected from the context menu"
As a result I then have to edit each video property individually in acrobat DC to set it to
"The page containing the content is closed"

  11. Allow InCopy to be edited remotely by 3rd Parties (eg clients)

We prepare large copy-heavy documents for our clients using InDesign and InCopy. However, our clients are not technically minded and do not have access (or the technical ability) to the Adobe software needed to open such documents and provide edits/comments.

We therefore have to cut/paste the InCopy into a Microsoft Word document and send this, so that the client can edit/change/comment as necessary. They then return the Word file to us, and we re-link or re-copy the changes back into InCopy.

Unfortunately, during this process we often lose the formatting and pagenation, increasing the time it takes for the edits…

  12. Improving table styles

Problems in the development of tables
Currently we have some drawbacks when it comes to automating as much as possible the application of the tables by using "table styles", this is because our tables have 4 different sectors (hotrizontals), unlike the possibility that Indesign offers only 3 types of rows "header rows", "footers rows" and "text rows". This, for the moment, we solve it in the following way: once we apply the style of table, we select the rows that we want to change and we apply by hand the "cell style".
One possible solution is that the "style of…

  13. Generated captions match FULL IPTC from Photoshop

    Hi.
I’m trying to get those lines from Stock images I buy :
    <photoshop:Credit>byheaven - stock.adobe.com/photoshop:Credit <photoshop:Source>93738394/photoshop:Source

I found no way to do that in inDesign with the current caption tool.

But what became funny was comparing Photoshop’s RAW DATA info :
    <pur:creditLine>
    <rdf:Bag>
    <rdf:li>byheaven - stock.adobe.com/rdf:li
    /rdf:Bag
    /pur:creditLine

with what inDesign gets me as XMP info :

    /dc:title
<photoshop:AuthorsPosition>camera and album with old family photos/photoshop:AuthorsPosition
    <photoshop:ColorMode>3/photoshop:ColorMode
    <photoshop:ICCProfile>sRGB IEC61966-2.1/photoshop:ICCProfile
    <photoshop:History>HASH(0x2d15488), HASH(0x2d15710), HASH(0x2d15740), HASH(0x2d15290), HASH(0x2d15770), HASH(0x2d15350), HASH(0x2d15428)/photoshop:History

  14. Be able to export pdfs by sections and using section markers as pdf file names.

Be able to export pdfs by sections and using section markers as pdf file names. Also, being able to specify that each pdf start with page 1 regardless of the InDesign page number.

  15. ID - Lock option - color fields / color groups

    Hey there,

i wish i could lock color fields / color groups to prevent any resulting sources of error.

For example a fixed logo color which shouldn't be different.

    Kind regards and big thanks!

  16. Show Import Options when Dragging File from Finder

When Placing a file, there is an option to show Import Options. This is helpful for inserting a select range of pages. It would be helpful if this same option was available when dragging a PDF file from my Desktop/Finder. Often times, I will have my finder window open which contains my projects home directory. Simply dragging the PDF into the InDesign document is much quicker than having to go through the process of locating in File->Place route.

  18. Removal/editing of the dumb "When in doubt, make a layout" line.

God, that's such a stupid thing to see every time I open InDesign. How about a checkbox for "Hide greeting message"?

  19. Align to page when only one object is selected

It would be helpful if the align command defaulted to align to page when only one object is selected. There is no risk of confusion as an object cannot be aligned with itself :)

This would remove a lot of unnecessary switching back and forth in the align options, as the default use case at least for me is align to selection.
