I just found that https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/high_cpu_usage_cephtmlengine.html is a little outdated but it goes like this:
Shut down all Adobe apps.
right-click on Indesign app > show package content > Contents> > Resources > CEP > extensions > com.adobe.DesignLibraries.angular
Delete all contents of this last folder (after a backup of this folder) and replace it with the contents of the downloaded DL 2.2.4 folder
Also do this for PS and AI
I've done so, am still monitoring if this is a solution, but the apps work fine seemingly.

CEPHtmlEngine (as seen in activity monitor)
What's this??
Using Indesign CC 2020 on Macos Catalina 10.15.1
Sometimes one of these CEPHtmlEngines (7 or 8, I don't know what these processes do, and 'helpers') uses to 80%, the fan goes up, sometimes a beachball. What can I do to ged rid of this??

NOT RESOLVED
For me (Mac OS 10.14.2 (18C54)) and ID 2019 14.0.1 this bug still holds true! When I start ID, Cmd-O nor Cmd-N work. I have to firstly do this manually, after that it works as promised.

Would be more than great! Another benefit to this is that it would be much easier to split a paragraph, that now has to be indented, into more columns without the need of making adjustments to the par style!

I voted for this feature request but would be better as a part of another request: 'Allow negative indentation!'

To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.
We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.
We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.
If you still face this issue even after updating to the latest version of InDesign, please submit the crash report to us. (The guidelines to submit crash are available at (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html)
We seek your support in our continual effort to improve InDesign.

14.0.1 is crashing on me too very often. Crashes a few times a day. And even more beachballs, once every 5 min's or so, with all kinds of activities.

Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while.
We had launched our investigation into the matter to get to the root cause of the problem. As the part of our investigation, we had reached out to many of you personally over email.
We have concluded our investigation and have come up with few findings.1. For many of the users the issue got fixed after updating InDesign to a newer version.
2. For some, the issue got resolved after disabling a third-party application such as Suitecase fusion etc.
3. For few, the issue was intermittent and is no longer reproducible.
4. For majority of the users, the underlying cause of the performance issue was identified to be related to span columns, cross-references, third party plugin etc.We have created separated threads for these issues and we are now working towards resolving them.
However, over the time this thread…

For me this helped:
Go to Creative Cloud app (not Indesign app prefs), go to prefs, there go to Files, then UNCHECK Creative Cloud Synchronisation!!

Indesign march 2020: still no good: vent still blowing with a lot of noise because of more than 100 % CPU usage (iMac latest software Catalina). I can kill the process (force quit) and then it stays away for some time. Does anyone of the adobe staff read this??
