Panel Flickering
🐞 Adobe InDesign Bug Report — CC Libraries Panel Flickering on External Monitor (macOS Tahoe)
Product: Adobe InDesign
Version: 2026 (26.3.1)
Operating System: macOS Tahoe 26.3.1
Hardware: MacBook Pro M4
Displays: External monitor + built‑in laptop display
Panel Affected: CC Libraries panel
Reproducibility: 100%
Severity: High (UI flicker makes the panel difficult or unpleasant to use)Summary of the Issue
The CC Libraries panel flickers continuously when InDesign 2026 (26.3.1) is used on a MacBook Pro M4 connected to an external display. The flicker is limited to the panel UI itself and does not affect other panels or the document area.
The flickering completely stops under two conditions:When the CC Libraries panel is moved to the MacBook’s built‑in display.
This mirrors known InDesign UI bugs where panel or submenu rendering breaks only on external monitors. [community.adobe.com]
When the user backs out of or exits the specific Library being viewed inside the CC Libraries panel.
External monitors have been associated with flicker and UI redraw failures in InDesign, often independent of document content. [community.adobe.com]
The issue persists across multiple documents, including brand-new ones, indicating this is panel-level behavior, not file corruption.
Steps to Reproduce
Open Adobe InDesign 2026 (26.3.1) on macOS Tahoe 26.3.1.
Connect an external display to the MacBook Pro M4.
Open the CC Libraries panel.
Navigate into an existing Library containing assets.
View the panel on the external monitor.Observed Behavior
The bottom portion (or the entire contents) of the CC Libraries panel flickers repeatedly.
The flicker occurs even when InDesign is idle (not interacting with the panel).
The flicker continues across all open documents and persists after restarts.Expected Behavior
The CC Libraries panel should render normally on all attached displays without flickering or redraw failures.
Workarounds Found
Collapsing the CC Libraries panel stops the flickering immediately.
Dragging the panel onto the MacBook’s built-in display stops the flicker completely.
This behavior is similar to past InDesign external‑monitor flicker issues documented by Adobe. [community.adobe.com]
Backing out of the active Library being viewed also stops the flicker.
These workarounds confirm the issue is tied to panel content rendering + external monitor GPU/UI pipeline, consistent with known external‑monitor flickering behaviors previously reported in InDesign. [community.adobe.com]
Additional Notes
GPU Performance toggling (on/off) does not resolve the issue, though enabling GPU was suggested as a workaround for similar InDesign flicker behaviors in older versions. [indesign.u...rvoice.com]
The problem does not appear related to rulers or overprint preview (prior known flicker triggers).
Appears to be a new UI repaint issue introduced in the 2026 build.🐞 Adobe InDesign Bug Report — CC Libraries Panel Flickering on External Monitor (macOS Tahoe)

Creating a new document - size changes
I'm on the latest version of Adobe InDesign (although this has been an issue for a while now). When creating a new document and changing the page size, margins etc. InDesign changes it back, I have to do this 3-4 times before it gives me the correct size or sometimes I have to go with the size InDesign has selected and change it once the new document has been opened. And no it's not because the margins don't work with the size of the document I want to create. I'm not the only one in the office with this issue and it's been happening for over a year, none of the updates have helped.

"Schrift wird hinzugefügt..." Adobe Font automatic updates crash the whole process while packing Data. ("Daten verpacken")
Version 21.2
While trying to pack up files /export the whole package indesign crashes and doesnt continue due to background activities:
it tries to activate fonts i have already licensed via adobe fonts. the process is absolutely critical, while my customers are waiting for the data, there is time consuming workarounds I have to step through. Switching back and forth between deactivating and activating fonts, closing all my open files I am working at is a time consuming hustle. These errors ocurred in previous versions and I hoped they had been fixed. Unfortunately the hustle still occurs.1 vote -
Freezing when working via network drive
When working with a file directly from a shared network drive (or p: drive) Adobe InDesign will intermittently freeze/hang up and require a forced shutdown/task manager or a full computer restart.
There is no crash log generated until the application is force closed so event viewer does not show anything relevant until after I've closed the program. There is nothing to suggest that there was a process running that caused the error (per event viewer logs).
I can work on that same file when it's saved locally.
I am currently on the latest version of Adobe InDesign, and I did not have issues with working on files off p: drive/network drive for many versions of InDesign until Adobe 2026 specifically 21.2+

Print preview not displaying in Windows 11 25H2
InDesign Version: 21.2 x64
When selecting "Print" from the File menu (see Image 1), the print preview cannot be viewed on this initial screen. Because of this, when I click the "Printer..." button at the bottom to open the system print dialog (see Image 2), the print preview fails to display regardless of which printer I select. This appears to be an application-side issue.
I suspect this problem occurs because the preview format used by Windows differs from the one used by InDesign. Since it is unlikely that Microsoft will adapt to Adobe's specifications, I request that the Adobe development team improve this issue so that the print preview displays correctly.

Slow and buggy when running of Dropbox or Pcloud
When I use Indesign with Dropbox or Pcloud files, even really small files it lags and becomes unusable. I have raised this issue with adobe in the past a few times direclty and they have somehow managed to fix it but it seems like every 2nd or 3rd update it comes back. Now days people use cloud services as we need to work with global teams so we need to ensure that Indesign is always able to work with what ever links that we throw at it.
I know there is a fix, because 1x a few years ago I spent hours with Tech Support troubleshooting and then they eventually pushed an update a few days later and the issue went away.
I just wish you could make sure that the same fix you did back then was always just implemented by default, I know most cloud providers save file structures in diffferent ways and there are many different operating systems etc, but still I just feel like it should just work.
Photoshop and illustrator are fine with working from links and files on Pcloud and dropbox its just indesign. I have a feeling its the way the autosave or file referencing system works.
I know its not just my machine, becuase when I save the file on my local hard drive, then its normal and smooth.

Indesign 21.2 - font or some other background task is running but not shown in the upper task bar
INdesign 21.2 - Windows 11 - some font or other background task runs in the background (nice swirling circle) and I can't change any fonts or adjust boxes or anything. The actual background task indicator is not even showing so I have to save file file and "crash out" indesign because it won't close otherwise (get the background task error) when I start it up again it's fine - extremely frustrating! Does this on BOTH of my computers. How can I stop this????

Losing the ability to use 'undo' [Command-Z] function.
I'm frequently losing the ability to use 'undo' [Command-Z] function. It's not all the time, but when it happens I can't undo anything. I have to quit InDesign and re open it to fix it. A few hours later it strikes again. There doesn't seem to be anything obvious triggering this. It's not crashing, it's just not functioning.

jpeg vs jpg
- InDesign (21.2) , Illustrator (30.2.1), Dropbox 243.4.6956, MacOS 15.7.4, M4 Macbook Pro Max
- Linked files with JPEG extensions within an Illustrator file (.ai), that are placed into an InDesign Document, initially show up, but then disappear if the Illustrator file is edited after being placed within an InDesign Document. 3/4. Linked JPEG files should appear in the InDesign file, but disappear.
- It appears as though saving the JPEG file as a JPG file solves the issue, but this has never been an issue in the past. It's a problem with 100's of legacy InDesign Documents if i need to go back and resave as jpg files.

AI Generated Alt Text Overriding Manual Alt Text
I have Generative AI disabled on my Mac and had manually entered alt-text on 2 images. Another user in my organisation, who had not disabled it, made some minor text amends on my file and my atl-text was overwritten.
I feel that any image that already has alt-text manually added should not be altered by this feature.
Also it would be good that when the feature is turned on it could have an option to only affect images added to the Articles Panel as that is the most common way of setting the tag order.

Cropped content inside frames becomes visible on older mobile PDF viewers.
I found a rendering issue in InDesign 2021 (and potentially newer versions). When an image or PDF is placed inside a frame (cropped), the content outside the frame boundaries is still being rendered on older mobile devices' PDF viewers.
Steps to reproduce:
- Place a large PDF/Image inside a smaller InDesign frame.
- Export as a standard PDF (Interactive or Print - High Quality).
- View the PDF on an older smartphone (e.g., older Android/iOS built-in viewers).
- The "hidden" parts outside the frame are visible.
The content outside the frame should be completely clipped or removed from the render stream to ensure privacy and visual consistency across all devices.
Exporting as PDF/X-1a:2001 solves the issue because it flattens the transparency/layers.

The software window's focus jumps between multiple desktops.
When I create multiple desktops on the same monitor, I drag the InDesign window to another desktop for work, and after a few operations within the software, the focus of the screen will immediately jump to the other desktop. System: macOS 26.2

Remove Forced Line Breaks messes up Page Navigation markers
When exporting as Reflowable EPUB with Page Navigation turned on, page markers need to be inserted immediately before the first word on the page. Often, this will be inside a paragraph.
However, in InDesign 21.2, is the "Remove Forced Line Breaks" option is turned on, the markers are only being placed as <div> tags and never as <span> tags. This means that the page break markers are only placed between block elements and never inside them, so they don't accurately reflect where the page breaks occur in the print layout.
Current export example:
<p>A full paragraph with a page break inside.</p>
<div aria-label="2" id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak"/>
<p>The next paragraph.</p>Desired export example:
<p>A full paragraph with a <span aria-label="2" id="page2" role="doc-pagebreak"/>page break inside.</p>
<p>The next paragraph.</p>To replicate:
1. Created a new file and fill with enough text for two pages.
2. Ensure there is a paragraph that breaks from one page to the next.
3. Export as EPUB (Reflowable) with both Page Navigation and Remove Forced Line Breaks turned on.The page marker will be inserted as a <div> between paragraphs. Export with Remove Forced Line Breaks turned off, and the marker will be a <span> in the correct place.

Bug Hyperlink character style applied
When copy/pasting a text frame, and the text frame contains a hyperlink without a character style applied, in the new pasted frame the hyperlink has the Hyperlink character style applied. Do not change formatting when copy/pasting text frames.

Bug finder items in front of Indesign windows
When moving the application window, by clicking and dragging the application title bar, background finder items like other applications and finder windows are put in front of the Indesign application window. Please fix this. I'm using Os X 26.2 and Indesign CC2026 (21.0.2)

Content-Aware Fit produces poor crops / bad fit
In these “AI times,” how can “Content-Aware Fit” be so extremely bad at cropping images like these? It hasn’t improved between CC2019 and CC2026.
The feature could be very useful and does an okay job on many images, but when the results are this poor, it’s hard to use it at all in automated workflows.
I often get complaints that images that absolutely don’t need much cropping end up being cropped unnecessarily.
Is this something Adobe has in their backlog or roadmap to fix?

Textrahmenoptionen

Place and Link
To the InDesign Product Team,
I am writing to provide feedback on the Place and Link (Content Collector) workflow. While the ability to sync text content across a document is invaluable, the current implementation of the "Parent-Child" relationship is overly restrictive and creates significant manual rework for designers.
The Problem: Currently, when a Parent object is updated, the Child object frequently reverts its font size, frame dimensions, and character treatment to match the Parent—even when "Preserve Local Overrides" is enabled. While "Style Mapping" exists as a workaround, it is an overly complex solution for a simple design need: keeping the words synced while keeping the design independent.
The Proposed Solution: I request a more intuitive "Link Options" toggle that allows a Child object to permanently lock its local formatting. Specifically:
Content-Only Sync: A high-level checkbox that tells the Child to only accept string (text) updates, ignoring all Parent-side attributes like point size, leading, tracking, and color. Geometry Independence: An option to decouple the frame's scale and dimensions from the Parent permanently, without needing to dive into complex sub-menus. One-Click "Stay as I Am": A simplified "Link Options" dialog where "Preserve Local Overrides" actually functions as a master lock for all visual attributes, rather than being overridden by "Update Appearance" or "Update Styles" flags. The "Place and Link" tool should function as a content-management bridge, not a formatting mirror. Designers need the flexibility to use the same text in a large headline (Parent) and a small sidebar (Child) without the software constantly fighting their layout decisions.
Thank you for your time and for continuing to improve the industry standard for layout design.
Best regards,
