1. Alt-text issue: InDesign 21.6 is not recognizing metadata fields filled in on Photoshop files

   Just with ID 21.6, this stopped working! I have gen AI turned off. I'm importing images from Photoshop. All the metadata is filled in: Author, Description, Keywords, Copyright, etc. Then I Export > Save for Web, all data except camera info. Then Place in InDesign. When I go to set the alt-text in Object Export Options and specify from XMP:Description, ID tells me there is no data there! I know it is there because I just typed it in! This literally worked just last week on this same file, now it's stopped working.

   Expected result: that the alt-text I've already entered in Photoshop appears when I select XMP: Description

   Actual result: ID tells me there is nothing there, so I have to reenter the same data under alt-text: Custom, thus doubling the amount of work

2. Pop ups in indesign ebook. I have created an ebook with clear placeholders for playing videos. but it plays as popup

   when there are placeholders for video, it should only play there once the button is triggered. Idea is to read text and also watch video. If the videos come as pop-ups it is very irritating. This was not there earlier. Please resolve

3. Helvetica(TT)

   Helvetica (TT) fonts are not recognized in Adobe 2026 (version--21.6) on windows and mac platforms.

   They are working perfectly in Adobe 2024 (version 19.5.5) on both platforms

   Can we make sure all true type fonts work in Adobe 2026 as well

4. Open file after failed open lock

   InDesign 2026 (21.5) freezes or hangs when opening a file in the same session as a previously failed open of the same file.

   The file is located on a network share that provides native .indd locking support.

   1. User A opens the file.
   2. User B attempt to open the file and received a warning that the file is locked. Success.
   3. User B leaves InDesign open.
   4. User A Saves and Quits. .idlk disappears. Lock disappears.
   5. User B attempts to open the file, it opens and is visible in the InDesign UX. But you cannot interact with the file because there is a stuck dialogue "Opening document", it never progresses, never times out. You click Cancel and then it is simply stuck on "Canceling".
   6. The only option is to Force Quit the application which sometimes corrupts the .indd file.

5. Style Packs tab will not remain closed upon app restart

   The Style Packs feature I never use... I'm a traditional InDesign user.
   I see its usefulness, but the problem is in Essentials Classic, I cannot get the Style Packs Window tab to remain closed. I close the Tab in InDesign, and when I restart InDesign, it comes right back in this workflow.

   I want it GONE. I accidentally click it all the time and mess up the styles I have created when I do so. Tabs should REMAIN closed when closed, so there's a bug here.

6. Problems with variable fonts again in 21.6 version

   OMG... old problem again in new InDesign version. (21.6) If I set wariable font to custom weight, (in my case Font is "Josefin Sans", in 700 weight) - I simply can not save the file. What a nonsence!!!!! please fix this ASAP.

8. PDF security permissions password

   With the new macOS Golden Gate 27.0 (and via the most up to date ID 21.6) when exporting to PDF from InDesign, there appears to be a bug which prevents you keying in a Permissions Password. The cursor is present in the box, but you are unable to type.

   This is imperative in our industry, when generating printing proofs. Please fix :-)

   Search by Page Number: Typing a number (e.g., 184) instantly filters or highlights the exact .indd file within the book containing that page range.

   Search by File/Chapter Name: Real-time text filtering for .indd file titles within complex book structures.

10. Macos27 and mouse behavior

    I know, I should have waited, but it's good for the dev team to know. Since updating to macOS 27, mouse behavior seems to conflict with InDesign, and to some extent system-wide, but InDesign seems to be affected the most. The cursor is jumpy and feels sluggish. (Small) menu items don't stay open when I need them, and pop-ups close unexpectedly (normally one click opens them and a second click confirms and closes them).

11. InDesign 21.6 does not restore Last Used Settings from macOS print dialog with Canon PS driver

    I am using Adobe InDesign 21.6 on macOS Tahoe 26.7 with a Canon imagePRESS C650/C750 using Canon PS Printer Driver & Utilities 4.17.25.

    The Canon printer driver itself works correctly. When printing from Apple Preview, all printer-specific settings are correctly remembered under “Last Used Settings”, including paper source, simplex/duplex, resolution, brightness and toner density adjustments.

    The problem occurs only when the macOS printer dialog is opened from Adobe InDesign.

    Environment

    Adobe InDesign 21.6
    macOS Tahoe 26.7
    Intel iMac 27" 2020
    Canon imagePRESS C650
    Canon iPR C750 PS driver
    Canon PS Printer Driver & Utilities 4.17.25
    Printer connected via TCP/IP / LPD

    Steps to reproduce

    Open a new blank document in InDesign.
    Choose File > Print.
    Select the Canon printer.
    Click “Printer…” to open the macOS / Canon printer dialog.
    Select “Last Used Settings”.
    Change several printer-specific settings, for example:
    Paper source
    Simplex / Duplex
    600 / 1200 dpi
    Brightness On/Off and brightness level
    Toner Density Adjustment On/Off
    Cyan / Magenta / Yellow / Black toner density sliders
    Print the document.
    Open File > Print > Printer… again.

    Actual result

    The Canon-specific settings are not restored correctly. The printer dialog returns to different/default settings instead of the values used for the previous print job.

    This happens even with a newly created InDesign document.

    Expected result

    The macOS printer dialog should restore the exact settings from the previous print job when “Last Used Settings” is selected, just as it does when printing from Apple Preview.

    Important diagnostic information

    The issue does not appear to be caused by the Canon driver or by macOS itself:

    The same Canon printer and Canon PS driver correctly remember all settings when printing from Apple Preview.
    Another Canon printer on the same Mac correctly remembers duplex settings.
    A manually saved macOS “Print Job Preset” correctly restores all Canon-specific options.
    InDesign preferences were reset completely; the problem still returned.
    The issue also occurs in a brand-new InDesign document.
    Exporting an existing document to IDML and reopening it does not resolve the issue.

    Most importantly, macOS correctly saves the Canon printer settings in:

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter.<printer>.plist

    For example, the following values remain correctly stored before and after opening the printer dialog from InDesign:

    InputSlot
    CNDuplex
    Resolution
    CNUsePSBrightness
    CNPSBrightness
    CNTonerDensityAdjustment
    CNTonerDensity
    CNCTonerDensity
    CNMTonerDensity
    CNYTonerDensity

    Opening the printer dialog from InDesign does not modify these stored values. However, the Canon/macOS print dialog opened from InDesign does not restore them correctly.

    This suggests that the issue is in the interaction between InDesign’s print system and the macOS NSPrintInfo / printer driver interface, rather than in the Canon driver itself.

    Additional observation

    Temporarily switching to another printer inside InDesign and then switching back to the Canon printer can sometimes make the settings work again, but the problem returns later.

    This makes the issue especially problematic in a production print environment, because printer settings such as paper tray, toner density and duplex mode change frequently between jobs and must reliably retain the previous values.

    Requested investigation

    Please investigate whether InDesign 21.6 correctly passes/restores the macOS NSPrintInfo / last-used printer settings when opening the native macOS printer dialog.

12. Minimised panels not expanding when file opened via Windows Explorer

    Using Indesign 21.6 x64, and when InDesign is already running - when double clicking an indd file in Windows Explorer (to open the file in InDesign), the minimized panel icons I have as part of my custom workspace do not open when clicked.

    I need to close InDesign and restart, then open the file from within InDesign and then these minimized panels will expand when clicked as expected. Even if all is working as expected (panels expanding on click because I opened file via InDesign), and then if I open a file from Windows Explorer all panels stop opening on any and all indd files already open.

    Using Indesign 21.6 x64, and when InDesign is already running - when double clicking an indd file in Windows Explorer (to open the file in InDesign), the minimized panel icons I have as part of my custom workspace do not open when clicked.

    When I open this file in InDesign 2026, the document opens, but the text and graphics are not visible on several pages.

    I don’t know when exactly this happened. I didn’t notice any crash, error message, or problem while saving the file.

    What I have tried:

    • Switched between GPU and CPU Preview — no change.
    • Changed the display settings — no change.
    • Opened the file in InDesign 2025. After conversion, some of the text and graphics become visible, but a lot of the content is still missing.

    I still have the original INDD file and have not overwritten it.

14. split layout view doesn't work anymore

    This morning, InDesign was updated (version 21.6), and the split layout view no longer works—or rather, it works only partially: the open document remains visible only on the left side, while the right side of the window is blank. I checked the zoom and page alignment, but nothing is visible.
    I’m working on Windows 11. I have already tried the basic troubleshooting steps, including deleting the cache and preferences. I even uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign, but the issue still persists.

    InDesign freezes when clicking a menu item before it becomes highlighted

    I have encountered a reproducible UI bug in the latest version of Adobe InDesign on macOS Sequoia.

    The issue occurs when using the application menus:

    1. Open a menu (for example Layout).
    2. Move the mouse to a menu item, but click very quickly, before the item has had time to become highlighted/active.
    3. If the click lands in the area of the menu item while it is still not highlighted, InDesign may immediately become completely unresponsive.
    4. The application cannot be interacted with anymore and has to be force-quit (killall InDesign / Force Quit).

    The problem is not document-specific and can be reproduced with a new, empty document.

    It seems to be related to the menu's mouse hit-testing or hover/highlight state: essentially, clicking a menu item faster than the UI can update its highlighted state can cause the entire application to freeze.

    This is particularly easy to trigger for users who work quickly and are accustomed to clicking menu items immediately after opening a menu.

    Keyboard shortcuts work normally, so I currently avoid using the menus whenever possible.

    Expected behavior:
    If the user clicks a menu item before its visual highlight has updated, InDesign should either activate the item normally or simply ignore the click. It should not freeze the entire application.

    Actual behavior:
    InDesign becomes completely unresponsive and requires a force quit.

17. Undo completely greyed out and Command-Z will not work

    As described^ even force quit the application and opened holding command+option+control+shift. This only allowed me to undo once before greying out the Undo button under Edit and failing to do anything when I clicked Command-Z. Is this part of the new software update?

    21.5.1 crashes on startup on my Mac OS computer when it get to the point where it reads plug ins.

    1. RESUMEN DEL PROBLEMA (SUMMARY)

    Existe un fallo grave en el motor de impresión directa (Direct Print Engine) de Adobe InDesign al procesar marcos de texto multicolumna con la opción "Expandir notas al pie entre columnas" (Span Footnotes Across Columns) activada.

    Al enviar el documento directamente a una impresora física o un controlador de impresión digital desde la interfaz de InDesign, el sistema no renderiza ni imprime la sección de la nota al pie que se extiende hacia las columnas de la derecha, omitiendo todo el texto que sobrepasa el ancho de la primera columna (columna izquierda). El diseño se visualiza de forma impecable en la pantalla de edición, pero la salida física resulta defectuosa e incompleta.

    El error se circunscribe exclusivamente al flujo de impresión directa; se ha comprobado que el renderizado es correcto si el documento se exporta previamente como un archivo cerrado en formato estándar Adobe PDF (PDF/X-4).

    2. DETALLES DEL ENTORNO DE PRUEBAS (ENVIRONMENT)

    • Software: Adobe InDesign (Versiones con soporte nativo para expansión de notas en marcos multicolumna).
    • Configuración del documento: Maquetación literaria de alta densidad (estilo clásico/académico) dispuesta a dos columnas.
    • Configuración de notas: Menú Texto > Opciones de nota al pie de página del documento > Diseño, con la casilla "Expandir notas al pie entre columnas" habilitada de forma global.
    • Comportamiento en pantalla: Corrección absoluta. El flujo de las notas rompe las dos columnas y cruza la página de lado a lado en la vista normal y en el modo de previsualización.

    3. PASOS PARA REPRODUCIR EL ERROR (STEPS TO REPRODUCE)

    1. Crear un documento en InDesign y configurar un marco de texto maestro con dos o más columnas.
    2. Insertar texto continuo en el cuerpo principal y añadir múltiples notas al pie de página de gran extensión.
    3. Acceder a Texto > Opciones de nota al pie de página del documento y activar la opción "Expandir notas al pie entre columnas" para que las notas crucen horizontalmente todo el ancho de la caja.
    4. Confirmar que en el lienzo de InDesign las notas se muestran correctamente distribuidas de lado a lado.
    5. Ir a Archivo > Imprimir, configurar una impresora física o un controlador de PDF virtual (PostScript/PCL) y ejecutar la orden de impresión.

    4. RESULTADO ESPERADO VS. RESULTADO REAL

    • Resultado Esperado: La página impresa debe ser un fiel reflejo de la previsualización en pantalla, mostrando las notas al pie expandidas ocupando todo el ancho horizontal asignado bajo el texto en columnas.
    • Resultado Real (FALLO): La impresora solo plasma sobre el papel la porción de texto de la nota que coincide geométricamente con el ancho de la columna izquierda. Todo el texto subsiguiente de la nota que fluye hacia el espacio de la columna derecha se corta por completo y desaparece de la impresión, dejando un espacio en blanco y arruinando la maquetación.

    5. DIAGNÓSTICO TÉCNICO PRELIMINAR

    El origen del problema radica en una falta de comunicación entre el gestor de composición de pantalla de InDesign y su intérprete de comandos de impresión (Print Spooler / controlador PostScript/PCL interno).

    Cuando la opción "Expandir notas al pie" está activa, InDesign aplica un cálculo dinámico de coordenadas en pantalla para anular el límite de la columna. Sin embargo, al enviar los datos brutos a la cola de impresión directa, el programa calcula el área de recorte (Bounding Box) de la nota basándose erróneamente en el ancho de origen de la columna donde se inserta el superíndice (la primera columna), ignorando la instrucción de expansión horizontal.

    6. SOLUCIÓN TEMPORAL HALLADA (WORKAROUND)

    La única manera de circunvalar este error crítico es forzar un aplanamiento previo de la estructura de objetos:
    1. Exportar el libro mediante Archivo > Exportar > Adobe PDF (Impresión) utilizando los estándares de preimpresión [PDF/X-4:2010] o [PDF/X-1a:2001].
    2. Abrir el archivo consolidado en Adobe Acrobat e imprimir desde dicha plataforma. En este escenario, la impresión se realiza al 100% de fidelidad, demostrando que el fallo reside estrictamente en el submódulo de impresión directa desde la suite de InDesign.

    7. IMPACTO Y PETICIÓN DE CORRECCIÓN

    Este fallo supone un perjuicio importante para el flujo de trabajo editorial y de preimpresión, forzando pasos adicionales obligatorios para verificar pruebas físicas elementales. Se solicita al equipo de ingeniería de InDesign que revise los algoritmos del motor de impresión para que interpreten adecuadamente las directrices de diseño de las notas extendidas en marcos multicolumna sin necesidad de recurrir a pasarelas de exportación externas.

20. fonts InDesign

    I have one machine on Windows 11 and one on Windows 10 both on version 21.4 and the problem isn't fixed. I still get errors for the Calibri
