3. mergeRecords() breaks InDesign Server CC 2018

   Posting as bug for the following reasons:
   1) Nobody seems to know why it's happening
   2) The script executes successfully with InDesign Desktop, but Server crashes (not just an error, full on stops).
   4) It's the only method that crashes InDesign Server I've found. I'm able to perform frame creation, image placement, find / replace, export PDF, etc... which leads me to conclude it's not an issue with my installation.
   3) Tested on 3 different computers

   The following .jsx will crash InDesign Server (replace paths with any of your own merging document files):

   InDesign Server will crash with the following error from the Server:

   ./InDesignServer: line 13: 30363 Segmentation fault: 11 "$installed_name" "$@"

   The error report from the Terminal window that launched sampleclient responds with:
   Error -1 fault: SOAP-ENV:Client [no subcode]
   "End of file or no input: Operation interrupted or timed out"
   Detail: [no detail]

   The jsx code is checking if all of the files do in fact exist, and it passes those checks. I've since been able to work around this using doc.dataMergeProperties.exportFile(). However I can see this being an issue if instead of a PDF, I needed .INDD files to be created from a merge.

   We have released an update for InDesign CC2019 (v 14.0.1) which contains fixes for some key issues. If you are not already on 14.0.1 (build 209), then we recommend you to update to latest version.

   Reproducible Steps –
   • Error snapshot or video recording of the issue.
   • Is the issue related to a specific document(s)/asset(s)? If yes, can you please share the document(s)/asset(s) with us? Please package the entire document(To package the document, Go to File → Package)

5. Overall performance poor

   The program takes 3-4 minutes trying to launch, then quits, generating an unexpected error report. It does this 2 times again before it will open the 3rd time. Making it nearly 12 minutes before it is actually usable.

   Fonts: when a text box or text is clicked or selected, without exception, there is a long delay and spinning ball prior to being able to do anything with the text. Suitcase Fuision 19.1.1 is the font management program and they claim the problem is with Adobe.

   Paste in place: sporadically the "paste in place", doesn't work properly–both through key command and pull down menu. It pastes wherever it feels like, even after restarting sometimes, (which creates the delay again opening).

   Linking: often it will not automatically check folders for links, despite this feature being checked and relink to last location selected in preferences. Manual linking must be done. In books, this costs dearly in time lost.

   These may seem like small inconveniences, but when you are hammering through dozens of files a day this is incredibly time consuming and a huge waste of my time. Which is my billable time.

   It isn't the system or hardware; with the latest and greatest Mac, with a solid state drive and plenty of room to manoeuvre, it plows through massive AE files and can handle Maya files. There is something wrong that ID is requiring so much CPU to handle what it used to do in a snap. If that's what the issue is. I haven't a clue why it's performing so badly wit this last iteration.

8. Placed illustrator .ai color dodge layers in Indesign don't display/print correctly

   Placing .ai stock files which have soft 'color dodge' layer highlights display and print as hard masks in Indesign. The solution I've found is re-saving the file as an EPS. Attached is a sample image (.ai on left, .eps on right).

9. text

   I am having text problems when regular text is near an image and the text which is within the boundary box of the image then text prints out bold. It does not appear bold on screen and the font is definetly regular but ive done some test and where the boudnary image box over hangs into text it then prints out bold mid word or wherever the image boudnary box is. This happens on psd images which have been deppetched and have no background.

11. Menus and dialog boxes are off

    Using Windows 10, menus are off by 1. For example when hovering "Edit" the menu for "File" displays, Layout displays Edit, and so on.

    Also when clicking create new document, the dialog is blown up and does not work other than the "X" to close out.

12. Indesign will start but will not create a new doc or open a previous one.

    I am using MacOS 10.13.6 High Sierra and Indesign CC 2018. The program has been working great but suddenly, beginning last night, InDesign will start up but when I go to create a new document nothing happens. I tried to open a document I had made the day before and it would no open either. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, trashed my preferences, but still not working. I get no warnings or spinning color wheels. What is going on?

    To identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.

    We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.

    We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.

13. ID - CMYK separation preview vs. RGB illustrations

    Hey there,

    1. every InDesign Version (my Version Adobe InDesign CC 2018 13.1)

    2. a) open new print CMYK document
       b) place a Ai object like .eps or .ai with RGB modus (with a black element – in RGB 0/0/0 – but in CMYK 88/79/65/93)
       c) now copy the object and convert the same object into CMYK modus and place them too
       d) start the CMYK separation preview in InDesign and disable the black color
       e) at the end only the CMYK object is separated and the RGB object is totally away

    3. I wish the RGB object would separated like the rectangle – with the same color – next to the GTIN.

    4. The RGB object doesn't separated like the CMYK object with the same color.

14. InDesign CS6 Hangs with customized plug-ins

    Hello,
    Our company develops InDesign plug-ins as our product. Now we have a hanging problem when dealing with one InDesign document. The problem happens on both Windows and macOS.
    According to the log collected on Mac, InDesign CS6 hangs at com.adobe.InDesign.Text. We cannot find a way to fix it so far. This problem stopped us to support our customers.

    Could you please have a check why the hanging happens?

    We made a simple document to reproduce the problem. The plug-ins inside "InDesign-CS6-Windows-Plugins" are used to make InDesign CS6 open the document without crash.
    The detail steps are:
    1. On Windows, place "InDesign-CS6-Windows-Plugins" under <Adobe InDesign CS6>/Plug-Ins/
    2. Launch Adobe InDesign CS6 and open document CS6.indd
    3. Click OK to continue if it prompts for missing plug-ins
    4. Navigate to page 1, which contains a large text frame
    5. Using Type tool to put cursor inside the begining of the frame
    6. Click Ctrl+A to select all contents
    7. Try to set the font size (or set font name) on menu bar.
    8. InDesign hangs.

    The attached zip file contains the plug-ins, indd file and log files.

16. Can not make a single change to the paragraph style options

    I can not make a single change to the paragraph style options or character style options. The only change it allows me to make is the font family only ONCE. This has been going on for about 2 months and can not fix it. PLEASE HELP. I can't set up a single style. It's Driving me NUTS.

17. Clippingpath inset

    I don't really know if its a bug or a feature:

    If I set an inset for a clippingpath (made in Photoshop) by for example 3mm, it sets the inset based on the scaling of the image. Means: if my image is scaled by 50% the inset will only be 1,5mm. As I have a document with multiple scale ratios it is not possible to maintain a coherent inset amount.

    I use the clipping-path frame to generate a cutting contours for stickers which all have to have a specific inset to avoid "blank streaks".

    1. Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
       Illustrator 22.1 Mac
       InDesign 13.1 Mac

    2. Steps to reproduce the issues
       i. Create a pattern fill in Illustrator with some part of the pattern using an overprinting fill or stroke in the Attributes panel.
       ii. Place the Illustrator file in InDesign.
       iii. The file does not preview unless Overprint Preview or Separation Preview is on.

    3. Expected result
       The file previews normally and objects below can be seen through transparent parts of the graphic.

    4. Actual result
       The graphic does not preview. Objects above (yes, above) the graphic are hidden as well. It only appears in Overprint Preview or Separation Preview. If the pattern fill is expanded in Illustrator or all overprints are removed (but keeping the graphic as a pattern) the graphic appears normally.

19. Cannot mirror a footer

    I am taking an InDesign class and in one of the steps in the book it says, Use the selection tool, select the footer, hold down the Alt key, and drag the text frame to the right master page so that it snaps to the guides, mirroring the left master page.

    I have NO finger dexterity so cannot hold down multiple buttons is there a way to do the above without holding down the keys?

20. Crash in InCopy corrupts InDesign file

    File crashed when writer and designer were making single story InCopy edits back and forth. They made single story edits with no problem, but then tried to export a selection of 12 stories (all on 1 page) by selecting all 12 stories and exporting selection. When the writer opened InCopy to edit the page, it crashed every time she scrolled to that page.

    The InDesign file then became corrupt and would crash immediately upon opening. Was able to save a version of the original file with a new name, but various text (on placed library items) is missing on the page the InCopy stories were exported from (see attachment).

    The full file (all stories) had previously been in and out of InCopy 2 times without any problem.

    About the file (78 page catalog):

    INDD 2018 file
    Originally created in older version of InDesign, but since has been re-saved as an IDML to update it to be a INDD 2018 file
    Only ever opened in InDesign 2018 (13.1)
    Only ever opened in InCopy 2018 (13.1 x64)
