More control with paragraph shading
I would like more control over the space insets in the paragraph shading options. When a long paragraph of text flow on to the next page there is no way to control the spacing above (padding) when we're in the middle of the paragraph and "clip to frame" is checked. It is possible to get away with it if the distance from the top-margin and the first baseline is sufficient, but most of the time I want more space. I think it would be better if the text was forced down to the second baseline if necessary. The end goal is to have the same amount of space above the text where the shaded paragraph starts and where it continues on the next page. This looks better. See the attached file.

Proposal for Native Persian Language Engine in Adobe InDesign
Dear Adobe InDesign Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
As a long-time user of Adobe InDesign in the publishing and design industry in Iran, I would like to bring to your attention a significant challenge that many Persian-speaking designers and publishers face when using this powerful software.Adobe InDesign has become the cornerstone of layout and design for books, newspapers, and magazines in Iran. However, despite the availability of the Middle Eastern (ME) version of InDesign, Persian is not natively supported. Instead, the software relies on Arabic language support, which leads to a range of issues due to the fundamental differences between the two languages.
Key Issues Faced by Persian Users:
Lack of a native Persian text engine: The current reliance on the Arabic engine causes incompatibilities, as Persian includes additional characters such as "پ", "چ", "ژ", and "گ" which are not present in Arabic.Different glyph shapes and behavior: Persian text often renders incorrectly or inconsistently due to glyph mismatches or substitutions, requiring manual adjustments.
Default LTR text boxes: When creating a new text frame, the default direction is left-to-right, which is impractical for RTL languages like Persian. This requires constant manual correction or the use of custom scripts.
Inefficient workarounds: Designers often resort to JavaScript scripts and time-consuming tweaks just to achieve proper Persian text handling.
Proposal:
To address these issues and significantly improve the experience of Persian-speaking users, I respectfully propose the following:Develop a native Persian text engine alongside the Arabic one in the ME version of InDesign.
Automatically enable right-to-left direction when Persian is detected or selected as the document language.
Provide complete support for Persian glyphs and typography, separate from the Arabic implementation.
Consider Persian-specific typographic features, such as justification behavior, kashida, and numeral handling.
This improvement would not only benefit users in Iran but also the wider Persian-speaking community worldwide, including Afghanistan and Tajikistan. We believe that Adobe, as a leader in creative software, has the vision and capacity to make InDesign more inclusive and better adapted to a wider range of global languages.
Thank you for your time and for continuously developing such a powerful tool. We hope you will consider this request and help bridge this longstanding gap in support for Persian language professionals.
Sincerely,
AkbarDear Adobe InDesign Team,

Directly create transparency on letters/words in a text frame
Currently it is not possible to define a letter or words within a text frame with a certain percentage of transparency. It is only possible to adjust the Tint. In the Effects Panel, the Transparency options are greyed out (not accessible).
Sometimes in a design you want to create such text effects, which at the moment can only be achieved with a workaround: an anchored text frame which poses several challenges if the transparent text runs over several lines.
Affinity Publisher offers this right out of the box in the current version (2.3.1). Quark Xpress can do this as well. It would be great if InDesign also offers this functionality. Thank you!
Please see attached screenshots to compare the two setups.

Include page count in XMP
The XMP metadata included in an InDesign file does not include the page count. This makes it difficult for thrid party solutions such as digital asset management systems not running InDesign or InDesign Server to display the page count to their users for InDesign files.
There is a standardized XMP element called xmpTPg:NPages which is supposed to contain the page count for multi-page documetns. https://developer.adobe.com/xmp/docs/XMPNamespaces/xmpTPg/ This should be included in the XMP by InDesign.

Package certain pages from an InDesign file.
It'd be great to be able to package certain pages from an InDesign file. Eg.: four pages in the middle of a 230 page document. Package a working file, fonts, art, PDF etc.

Import formatting from PDF comments
InDesign should apply what ever it recives from the PDF. The formating options for the comments are pretty limited – Bold, Italic, Underline, ...
If I accept a comment that has italic characters, the formatted text would be [italic].
If I accept a comment that has bold characters, the formatted text would be [bold].
If I accept a comment that has bold italic characters, the formatted text would be [bold italic].
If I am using a font that does not have an Italic weight (Maybe it uses Regualre Italic), the text would just recive the standart missing font warning (The pink highlight).

Font Menu Management
Need a way for end-users to control which fonts appear in the font menu. We don't need, or want, all the Mac OS system fonts to appear in our InDesign font menu, but there is currently no way to remove them from the list. While we can sort by Favorites, this would mean we'd need to go through and mark all our corporate fonts as Favorites in order to only display them. With Apple no longer allowing removal of System fonts, application font menus are getting totally out of control. Allowing control of what is displayed from within the application seems to be the only way to work around this

Implementing "Grep styles" like a "Character style"
Grep styles deserve to be used like any existing style.
This means:
1 - Having a panel where we can create/modify/ delete any grep style (similar use as the Character style panel)2 - Having the Paraph.style/Grep styles section revamped.
There, a drop down list allows the user to select existing Grep styles (If any)3 - a "+" button allows to add and implement some more Grep styles
This allows to use multiple grep stylesThe added value is to create only once a list of grep style actions. They can then be connected to paragraph styles easily.
This need is coming from several issues that I'm am facing today:
Paragraph styles that are already based on a specific paraph.style cannot be based on another paragraph style where the Grep style could be. Therefore, the grep styles actions have to be written down on all of them. (waste of productivity)
Fonts almost never have all the bold/ italic/etc. properties. Therefore, depending on the font, we need to adjust the target of the modification, for the same words. Being able to duplicate/ modify a Grep style would be a huge save of time.

Equations and Citations and Bibliography Feautures
Bring the most desired features such as Equations and Citations and Bibliography fields as in Word. Currently I am writing my dessertation and I have to insert my reference list the hard way and I can't even type my mathematical equations as it should be typed.
InDesign CC doesn't bring features for that (so that I don't have to rewrite references each time I need) neither to insert mathematical equation as in Word. WORD DOES IT BETTER!

Remove color group folder when all swatches in it are selected by "Select all unused"
If all swatches are selected in a group folder by using the "Select all unused" option, also remove the group folder. This will make the workflow for cleaning up the swatches faster by only taking one action instead of also having to remove an empty group folder.

More text formatting controls needed in Buttons & Forms Text Field)
Why are there so few controls for text formatting within the PDF Options panel of the Buttons and Forms panel (e.g. centering text within a Text Field, leading, kerning, Vertical and Horizontal Scaling etc.) than are available in the main InDesign application? Importance: the lack of text control when creating interactive pdf forms in the Buttons and Forms panel means that when text is added to a text fields, the result is a very unprofessional looking result when users type responses into the form.

FORM - COMB, order, styles
Primarily, for me, is the painstaking task of setting "comb of" characters, and even worse setting the right tab order.
Panel for setting tab order in InDesign, under Object>Interactive is horrible. It is too small, height-wise, and does not function well all the time. Often it happens to "jump". I get nr. 47 after 46, but it jumps before 46.
I sometimes have over 70 form fields to sort on a single page and it is taking too much time and patience to set it right.
If you could work on that tab order panel, make it larger, and give it "order by name" button, it would be a huge help.
Making styles available for form fields would be incredible.

We need "smart" title case in the change case menu
We need smart title case, with prepositions and conjunctions not capitalized. It's ridiculous that a script or third-party plug-in is required. This is a publishing program! InDesign can create a table of contents—it should be able to do it correctly.
