Cross-Reference feature
I'm an avid user of InDesign; currently working on a book-length document of about 150 pages. I often want to cross-reference something said earlier; however it is buried somewhere in the hundreds of paragraphs of the article story format. That means it's very hard to find that paragraph so that I can simply refer to the page number it's on (see attached file of image capture).
Here's my suggestion: Add a field in the cross-reference dialog box where you can copy in a few leading words of the paragraph you want to find, then have the paragraph text field…

PDF Export improvement
Great news that it is now possible to export multi page file as separate PDFs. However that automatically created (not optional) subfolder is unnecessary.

Mark layers as visible in the exported PDF but non-printing from within InDesign export settings
PDFs have the ability to mark layers as non-printing, so that they appear visible on the screen but don't print to hard copy. I'm using this capability to add a light raster background to all pages of a workbook for students, which adds a bit of warm color to the on-screen viewing experience, but I don't want this background to use up all their toner if they decide to print the pages. Similarly, the entire workbook has page numbers, but the worksheets should print without the page numbers, because they're not relevant outside the context of the…

Ability to completely disable start screens in AI, INDD, PS, Acrobat
Ability to completely turn off these start screens in AI, INDD, PS, Acrobat. When I close a document window, I expect to be able to see my desktop, not a wall I then have to close or hide. Old school workflow, never had a start screen, never needed one, it's not helpful imho, tho it may be to others, so we should be able to choose how we want it.

Allow the initial view of PDFs Created in InDesign to be set in InDesign
Have settings within the PDF export window that allow to to set the initial view when opening the PDF, i.e two page continuous, or two up with cover page) without having to open the PDF in Acrobat and select this feature every time you create a new PDF.

Reset the “Table Options > Alternating Fill” for each frame
"Table Options > Fills > Alternating Fill" is very useful.
However, if the table spans multiple frames, the next frame may start with the color of the second line.
This specification is of great significance for instantly judging odd/even numbers in a row, but sometimes it is not desirable if it is simply for visual purposes. For example, like the header option "Once per Frame", the next frame/page requests an additional option that allows you to apply the color set as the first line.
Of course, it covers rows, columns, fillss, and strokes evrything.<にほんご>

Window decorators make moving the window difficult when smaller
When the window is small (eg half of my screen), the window decorators make it very difficult to move the window. In particular, the name of the program ("Adobe InDesign CC 2018") is inactive, but somehow I still can't grab the window there. It gets very frustrating to manage my screen, especially when I need several programs open.

Footnote in XML flow
Hi Team,
InDesign not supporting footnote future in XML workflow. In Word workflow it is working fine. But in XML workflow XML structure is remove when insert footnotes. We want to move all footnotes into separate frame and align it in page end. Kindly check the feasibility and add this feature.
Thanks & Regards,

Deleting and merging layers functions
Many times with large files or files that have been passed to you from other designers, you may have to clean up the layers, and delete or merge layers. It would be great if when you go to delete a layer and you are notified that it has one or more objects on it, that it would tell you what pages those objects are on, so you can go there and deal with those objects (ie the Preflight panel when there are errors on particular pages). This would be especially helpful when dealing with large multi-page documents,…

Split Layout view also horizontal
Split view is great. Allowing you to refer to page numbers, whilst checking the contents in the other view for example. But its only in portrait (left and right)
A landscape (top and bottom) view would also be great and most appreciated

Publish online Magazine
Publish online needs to be able to tell the difference between spreads and single pages. I publish a magazine using publish online and with the page numbers at the bottom, it looks like it is half as thick as it is. or have an option to take the page numbers off since they are in the magazine and I don't need them on the web page.
It would also be cool if when animating the magazine in InDesign there was a page flip, though I do like the way I do it now because it's different, it would…

Preflight. Hidden pages
It would be great if we had the option to add hidden pages to the preflight.
When working with long documents, if your pages panel is small it might be difficult to see a hidden page.
For translation projects, it might be essential that only text that is going to be visible in the final pdf is actually present in the indd /idml file so hidden pages should be identified and deleted.

Weird grey objects appearing on pages
I updated my OS today -- and I'm having major problems with InDesign. For one, it's running slowly. More distressing, however, are the strange dark grey angular objects that are appearing on pages. They appear and then disappear and then reappear. See attached screenshots. Those grey objects are NOT part of my page design. I have no idea where they are coming from. This is a file created two months ago, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. I'm using InDesign CC.

Ability to create a master text file that updates everywhere the content is used, much like DocsFlow or WordsFlow, but better.
I am constantly making catalogs and the proofing process is arduous because we always have to read through text to check for spelling errors, grammar mistakes, etc. If there was a way to create one Master text file (whether it’s an InDesign, Word, Excel doc, etc) and link it to any document, have one or more people edit it, have it update across the board and not override any local changes would be fantastic. Now, I know there are extensions you can use, such as DocsFlow and WordFlow, but the problem with these is that you cannot choose specific text…

Variables with long definitions to wrap to next line
Currently, variables do not break across lines. I have documents with tables and variables. If the variable has a long definition, I have to shrink the font to get the text to fit in the cell when it could easily wrap to the next line. FrameMaker's variables have this capability. InDesign should be able to do the same. PLEASE!

Convert graphics from RGB to CMYK
I use InDesign for a lot of print layout, and often graphics used/supplied (stock, photographs, etc.) are in RGB format. But for print I need these in CMYK format, and since ideas for which graphics to use and layouts change often before finalization I wait until the final OKs are given before converting graphics to CMYK.
The way I see this working is through the "Links" tab, although perhaps it could be done through the "Package..." function. In the Links tab, it would give me the option of right-clicking an RGB file and within that popup menu give me the…

Placed pdf loses interactivity features and accessibility tags.
When PDFs are placed into an InDesign layout and then the entire layout is exported to PDF, the placed PDFs are converted to <Figure> tags in the final PDF.
There are many time when designers must incorporate an existing PDF into their documents, such as:
-- Multi-page PDF of an existing document.
-- A pre-made PDF AcroForm
-- In annual reports, an official letter from a president, commissioner, or other authority.
-- In financial reports, the required letter from the accounting firm as well as the financial balance sheets.
In these above cases, the placed PDFs are official documents…
23 votesHi,
What all things would you like PDF to retain? (alt text, tags and what else?)Currently when PDF is imported, its imported as a single graphic.
Would you want the tags and alt text to be mapped to their correct assets in InDesign? and those tags and alt text be also editable from within InDesign after PDF is imported?
Or should they be remapped and restored once the document with placed PDF is again exported to PDF from InDesign?
Would want to know more about the proposed solution / workflow
Thanks

smart tabs
Suppose I have a document with a table laid out in it. I don't want to use a table, instead I go to a tabbed list so I can save some space. What I would want is the option to left justify the first column, right justify the last column, and distribute the other columns so that each tab has the exact same width in that row without having to manually space them out.
