  3. Improve the tabs window interface

No matter what size your text is or how much Iyou zoom in, when you open the tabs window to set or modify tabs, the window is WAY too small, and the little arrows to adjust the tabs WAY too fussy. It's almost impossible to grab the existing tab to move it over or even select it, and you end up creating 4 or 5 new tabs because you're clicking on the ruler trying to select an existing tab. I wait for this to improve with every update. Going in to my 25th year as a graphic designer, and I…

  4. Placed pdf loses interactivity features and accessibility tags.

When PDFs are placed into an InDesign layout and then the entire layout is exported to PDF, the placed PDFs are converted to <Figure> tags in the final PDF.

There are many time when designers must incorporate an existing PDF into their documents, such as:

-- Multi-page PDF of an existing document.

    -- A pre-made PDF AcroForm

-- In annual reports, an official letter from a president, commissioner, or other authority.

-- In financial reports, the required letter from the accounting firm as well as the financial balance sheets.

In these above cases, the placed PDFs are official documents that…

Need More Info  ·  amaarora responded

    Hi,
What all things would you like PDF to retain? (alt text, tags and what else?)

Currently when PDF is imported, its imported as a single graphic.

Would you want the tags and alt text to be mapped to their correct assets in InDesign? and those tags and alt text be also editable from within InDesign after PDF is imported?

Or should they be remapped and restored once the document with placed PDF is again exported to PDF from InDesign?

Would want to know more about the proposed solution / workflow

    Thanks

  5. Variable for dimensions

It would be very useful to have a text variable for dimensions of the page/trimbox/bleedbox or even for objects (along the lines of a caption).

  6. Proper export format for Webdesign

Since Indesign gets all the functionalities for webdesign : effects, objects styles, text and pargraph styles, interactivity, links, tempaltes...
It would be great to be able to export designs to HTML/CSS in a real and proper way (not the nowadays export).
Or, an export to PSD, at least.

  7. Discontiguous selections in InDesign

It would be nice for users to be able to make discontiguous text selections in InDesign, as you can in Microsoft Word.

  8. Please make hyphenation an option, NOT the default

In the Paragraph Panel, hyphenation is selected as the default option, but we know that breaking words across lines lowers readability in text. Please keep it as an option for instances where it's needed, but don't make it the default. When changing it, it should also be universal to a document (in other words, you shouldn't have to click every text box to turn it off).

  10. It would be fantastic to have an AI agent built into InDesign which would check spelling, grammar and fact check text data.

It would be fantastic to have an AI agent built into InDesign to check spelling, grammar and fact-check text data such as name spelling, dates etc. This would be a huge improvement.

  11. Continuous tables with a secondary header

Where tables with assigned headers and footers need to continue to have headers and footers on subsequent pages when threading, the actual header text is rarely used for any part of the table but the first page of it. Why is there not an option for a secondary header for continued tables? Keep it the same style for the headers, but allow it to be set and editable. It is such a common need, and publication designers are forced to use an inefficient workaround. Please add this "secondary header" option when creating table headers and footers. Thank you.

  12. Integrate a Content :before and :after to Styles as it is possible in CSS

In the character and paragraph styles definition: Give us the opportunity of automatically add content before and after the text (give the opportunity to style this additionally with a character style), to which the style is applied. Currently a conent:before is only possible with using a paragraph style a trick (see image, sorry for the German ...).

Working with XML data or other equivalent text sources you can add media related text, that doesn't alter the content. This is quite important, if the content should be exported after production.

  13. Compare 2 indd files

It is difficult to compare very huge indd files.
It will be very useful if we are able to compare 2 indd files with minute precision including the styles, tags applied to text etc.
A report should be generated of the change or atleast an UI where the differences can be compared between the 2 documents.

  14. Text Variable "Running Header" to work across indvidual Indesign files within a Indesign Book

"Running Header" working across multiple indesign files within a book would allow a more modular approach to book production: common elements such as headers and footers can changed globally within a book, that shares some of its content i.e. individual indesign files, with another book but whose headers and footers must be different.

  15. Path elements as Artifact

To create an accessible PDFs it’s essential to either tag relevant content or mark irrrelevant content as Artifact. In InDesign you can use the object export options to mark an object as “Artefact”.

So far so good, however any path elements from tables or underlined/strikethrough text are not marked at all. Obviously, those always need to be marked as an Artifact. InDesign should do this automatically during the pdf export process. Please fix that, it’s extremly time consuming to fix that manually in Acrobat.

  17. Restart endnote numbering within a single document

I love that endnotes are now a feature, but am finding them to make my job more difficult as they are currently.

I'd love to see a way to restart endnote numbering within a single document--maybe after a certain paragraph style is used or after a section break. With a multi-hundred page document, it looks more clean (both in the text and in the endnotes section) and is more manageable to have lower numbers.

  18. Share for Review: Tracking Resolved Comments

While the Share for Review option is so handy for clients to make edits, it is a nightmare to track what has been implemented because as soon as the edit is resolved it becomes unmapped.

It is very hard to keep track of revisions so I would love a feature to glance back on previous versions (either by highlighting, creating a pdf including comments, or a window that you can click a page to see before and after results) to see where the markups where made. Clicking back to unresolved doesn't work because once a change is made the text

  19. Allow footnotes to renumber in same document

When importing a Word document with footnotes or endnotes that are continuous, add feature to begin renumbering footnotes from 1 for each chapter or section. It does not work in the current versions of InDesign CC even with the preferences set to renumber with each new section when the text file is linked from section to section.

  20. Add conditions to Data Merge

There should be conditions in data merge to include or exclude text based on the data in a record. For example.e consider a set of business cards. Some users might have a Twitter handle or mobile number, some might not. Currently there is no way to omit empty fields and any text that might fo with it, line an "M" and tab to prefix a mobile number and the line break after it. There should be a way to make that text conditional on whether the field is empty or what is in it.

    e.g. IF @mobile<>"",M^t@mobile^p,,)

    If the mobile…
