  1. Table of Contents: Character Style Improvements

TOCs need to be able to do three different things with character styles that are included in text in a generated TOC:

    1. The Character Style stays present in the TOC (this is currently what InDesign does)
    2. The Character Style is stripped.
    3. The Character Style is mapped to another character style.

These settings should accessible in the Style: <stylename> section of the TOC options -- customizable for each paragraph style used to generate the TOC.

The most notable use for the mapping style is when the typeface between the TOC and the body text of the book differs, or when the…

  2. Need option for auto-fit in table cell style

When I reduce the text size in table, the rows height not fit automatically and its manual work to fit the each row for whole table. It's make easier if we have option to fit the cell height automatically based on content like Object style "Auto-Size"option.

  3. Opacity of a cell fill

There needs to be an option to control the opacity of a cell fill.
The only option now is to go to cell options > Strokes & Fill and change the tint, but the effect is not the same as opacity (that will apply only the fill and not the text in the cell).
    Thank you

  4. Fix the printing bug for text-heavy documents

In the 2018 InDesign, the text heavy pages won't print. Even, sometimes, if I save as a simple PDF, strip color, change fonts, etc. I've then tried to save it as an .idml file but that won't work now, either. By the way, I could print it fine last week—until I upgraded to 2018's version. I want to revert to 2017 but it has vanished. This is a bug in the new InDesign that needs fixing right now.

  5. InDesign keeps crashing while copying and pasting text between files

While copying and pasting text from one InDesign file to another, the program often crashes. Today I finally understood what helps to avoid this: You need to break the links to all paragrahp styles before copying and pasting, then it works fine. Please try to fix this bug, it´s really annoying...

    Thanks!

  7. Can we please remove all the question marks from InDesign placeholder text?

All of the question marks in placeholder text are an unrealistic representation of typical body copy. I end up having to remove them all when developing layout comps. Not a big deal, but annoying.

  8. Select multiple anchored objects

The ability to Shift+click to select multiple anchored objects to be able to make changes to all of them.

One situation this would be useful in is when you have multiple anchored frames for interactive text boxes to update all of their shared properties like font, and font size.

  10. Omit text boxes [None] check box in Preflight > Bleed/Trim Hazzard Warning

Text boxes with [None] background like footers and page numbers are always showing up in the warning list. This would save a bunch of time checking each one or disregarding and having an error on press.

  13. Interactive text field options that do not exist in InDesign, but do in Acrobat.

I make a ton of interactive PDFs in InDesign. Why can I not set things like character limits or centered text within InDesign so I can save the settings in the .indd file? Instead, I am forced to make these changes in Acrobat. This means that any changes to the .indd file require that I remake the PDF format changes in Acrobat. EVERY TIME!

  14. Table numbering for multipage tables

Need to repeat table numbering on every page of very long tables.

The publisher requires this type of table layout. The last page of the table should begin with the line "End of Table 1.1", all pages, starting from the second and up to the penultimate page should begin with the line "Continuation of Table 1.1". Now we have to do this by inserting an additional text frame on each page with a long table or an additional master page, but in the case of moving tables, we have to spend a lot of extra time

  15. Please add Document First Page Number and Document Page Range to Text Variables

I'm doing a layout for a scientific journal, and each article is in a separate file. The articles are then combined into a book. An important piece of information is the page range, which is part of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) used by scientists to search. Additional text variables like Document Start Page and Document Page Range are much needed. The last variable requires separator formatting between numbers (e.g. 35-70 or 35…70)

  17. A way to extract font and text styling from an image

There should be way to capture styling information from an image. It will be helpful to find out and use the font and other kind of text styling used in an image.
This way I'll be able to save information from an inspirational image for later use in my design.

  18. conditional GREP formatting

We need to add conditional GREP formatting. For eg. in screen 1 (yellow highlighted text) tagged in xml, and are able capture with GREP styling. But when we put condition, it also captures unwanted text in same GREP style (cyan highlighted), tagged with same xml tag. It would be great as conditional text, i.e.. "IF x=y then DO 'this'" OTHERWISE APPLY 'this style'.

If such option available in indesign, it would be a great help as we are doing frontend xml publishing.

  19. Center-point auto-selected when rotating images in a content frame

I want this to be something I can set in InDesign with my workspace. If it isn't automatically set to centerm then allow me to change the preferences for the whole program.

I make manuals that require six photos a page, and I am always having to select the center point square in the rotation toolbar.

I would like the option for this to be my default.

  20. By providing the flexibility to apply language settings to the entire document.

Hi i have an indesign document and just finished working on it. And i realized that language setting on this document is Turkish. I want to change language all texts in this document to english but I cannot do this all at once. I have to select all the texts one by one and manually to change the language setting.
