1. PDF export function with the selection of which metadata or whether general metadata of pictures should be exported.

   Many companies and also designers are not aware that they share sensitive content on their websites via the metadata for expamle in pictures, if these were uploaded directly after the InDesign PDF Export.

   Many PDFs created with InDesign that you can find online from large companies contain very accurate, detailed information such as mails/phone numbers/patient information/non-public addresses/etc (for example Metadatas from Images embedded wihtin the exported PDF). This is a privacy conflict and in some countries a violation of existing laws.

2. [InCopy] Open selected recent documents (open more than just one document)

   Hello,
   A new feature that allows the user to choose to open more than one InCopy document at once in the option 'File > Open Recent' would be very useful.

   I've posted this request last year (https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/45136654-open-more-than-one-document-per-session-in-open), but nobody reached me.

   It would be very useful to have this option in InCopy as I always work with chapters (usually 8) that are stored in different subfolders; that is, it is not possible to go to a single folder/directory, select the eight chapters that I will edit and open them whenever I need to edit these chapters (and I always need to have the 8 chapters open because I need to standardize terms, acronyms, etc. in all of them, saving time). Needless to mention, obviously I can't move the files I'm going to edit into the same/single folder as those files contain links to images and other details that prevent me from considering such a solution.

   I'm an exclusive InCopy user (I'm a copyeditor, not a designer), so any alternatives (including opening/editing such files in InDesign or similar possible solutions) are out of the question. It is also worth mentioning that, as a professional copyeditor, I receive many books per month to be edited over the course of weeks (so that, over the course of days, when turning the computer off and on, I have to open each of the chapters one by one each time); so it's not a one-time problem.

   I recognize that opening more than one file at once already demands a high computer/RAM processing, and opening 8 files/tabs may require a longer 'initialization', but an option that allows selecting, in 'Recent files', more than a file for them to be opened sequentially would be of great help.

3. Adobe's out-of-date "Check Spelling" system

   For long documents, every copy-conscious designer uses InDesign's "Check Spelling" feature. I think we can all agree it can be improved; the functionality and interface have changed very little since InDesign's inception.

   We need an "Ignore Capitalization" button/feature:

   InDesign users spend most of their spell-check time clicking the "Skip" or "Ignore All" buttons: skipping capitalization issues (where there are forced line breaks or lead-in lines styled in all caps, making the uncapped offender a benign issue), skipping proper names, skipping the plural and possessive versions of words we've already confirmed as legitimate. Why aren't there buttons for "Ignore Capitalization" and "Ignore Case?"

   We need a "(Go to) Previous" or "Back" button:

   While we're on the topic of skipping, why isn't there a "Previous" or "Back" button? I'm not talking about the direction in which you chose to run a spell check in reference to your currently selected page (i.e. the "Forward" or "Backward" direction buttons); I'm talking about a button that—as you zone out on the endless repeat-clicks of the "Skip" or "Ignore All" button(s)—allows you to go back to a word you realize (too late) needs to be "Change[d]" and not "Skip[ped]."

   Adobe's built-in dictionary needs an update:

   The built-in dictionary is extremely outdated. Very few of the ubiquitous business-adopted words that originated in online communities and social media platforms have been added to the dictionary. Additionally, extremely common marketing and design terms are no where to be found. When I create marketing plans and proposals, this issue becomes acutely apparent. For instance, "online" isn't in the Adobe dictionary?! Seriously! If that's not a sign that the entire "Check Spelling" system is out of touch and out of date, I don't know what is.

5. Revert back so files can be moved or renamed while the file is open

   If you have a file open and make changes, then move the icon to another folder, or change the document name. This corrupts the file until the icon has been put back in the original place or renamed back to the original title. This causes lots of problems if you have multiple indesign files open and you are moving them around the computer as you work on different projects throughout the day. It is very easy to loose all of your work if you can’t remember the exact location of the original file or the exact name of the document when you first opened it. The recover never works. This has only been a problem since updating to 2018 indesign, please reinstate so we can have flexibly without the fear of loosing the work you have created. It was never a problem before the 2018 version.

6. Keep non printing elements visible on screen

   A lot of documents I create, are for both printing and onscreen publishing (.pdf). In the .pdf's, I like to add a divider to spreads, to make clear that two pages are show. When setting the 'Non Printing' Attribute for this divider, it dissappears on screen. Maybe ther should be an 'Invisible' check box for that, and a 'Non Printing' option for objects that are visible, but do not print.

8. Nesting bookmarks trought multiple files within an InDesign book

   I would like to be able to nest bookmarks by creating, for example, a nest of bookmarks in one file and then in another file (which is still part of the book) using the same name assigned to the bookmark nested in the previous file, so that I can continue to insert content within the same nest.
   The result would be = 1 large group containing all the bookmarks I am interested in.

   This could be done by taking a cue from the variant/variable renaming system that currently exists in Figma.

   For example, if I want to put the bookmark ‘Spruce’ in the ‘Trees’ folder (which is, however, in a different file within the InDesign book), but at the moment I am in a different file, if I write in the rename space: Trees/Fir, InDesign creates a group between the two and when I export the pdf file I already find the bookmarks ready to be clicked on.

9. Import and export Find/Change queries button

   I would LOVE to be able to import and export find/change queries from the find/change window, instead of having to go through cumbersome Windows folders to get the same result. A little button besides the save query/delete query would work really well and not be intrusive at all. This would be really helpful for sharing common actions that need to be standardized among various team members without each one having to recreate individual queries and saving them (or going through Windows hidden folders). 10. Better printing options

    Since Publisher is being discontinued by microsoft I have switched to indesign looking for a replacement. I am loving many of the features but it is VERY difficult to print from indesign myself. I literally have to click into 3 windows and a separate drop-down to make sure my files are printing the right direction, on the right size paper, and if I need a flip, flipping the right direction. Also, There is no preview option, I especially miss the preview option in publisher where I can lower the opacity and see what the front and back flipped pages will look like together. I know this is more geared toward professional uses that are going to be sent out to a printing service, but having some of those features would be phenominal.
    
    Oh, also, being able to make the page size you want and then just saying, hey, print 10 of these to a page or whatever. because Step and repeat is fun, but would be great if I didn't have to actually think about any of that.

    I have too many old thumbnail showing in my InDesign screen. Some are useless items, such as drafts, that I saved, but later deleted. The file is deleted, but the thumbnail is still there. I also want to have some thumbnails from 3 years ago, not go searching for them among my files later. Why don't you let us delete thumbnails of deleted files? Why do they even show up, if we deleted the file? This is a bad either/or decision we shouldn't be forced into. It's quite inconvenient. Now I'm afraid to save a draft and and have even more thumbnails I can't get rid of. Am I missing something here, or do you programmers think this is a good idea, to make us have 100 thumbnails? Oh, just use the file folder is your response, but then why even have thumbnails? Because, obviously, because thumbnails are so convenient. But only the ones which we want to use, not a list of all of them, forever, including every draft we saved and have since deleted.

12. Export document with specific pages in multiple color spaces

    I do medical journals, and I frequently have clients who request their document in 2 versions: a full color version for online, and a version where some, but not all of the pages are in grayscale for the printer, to save on printing cost.

    It is yes possible to export an entire document converted to a grayscale color space, with some admittedly janky workarounds which it would also be nice to see streamlined.

    But at the moment, what I do for my needs is I have to export a full color version, a separate grayscale version, and then manually collate these together in Acrobat to get the desired PDF. Being able to do this in one step exporting from InDesign would be great. Especially for those of us where manually creating a separate InDesign document devoid of color in some places, when there are sometimes hundreds of figure images, would be very time consuming.

14. More responsive UX on macOS

    Many macOS users will agree that InDesign feels veery laggy compared to other apps (like Affinity Publisher for example). I really wish you could finally implement a more responsive UI with native macOS UI components instead of scroll views that scroll like it's 1999! :)
    Adobe XD is a really good example of what I mean by "responsive" UX on macOS. I understand that XD is much younger than InDesign, but if you don't want to miss out on the next generation of graphic designers, you should really do something about it.

    P.S.: I can't speak for the Windows people. Is there a difference in UX between XD and InDesign too?

    ALL Adobe products should allow type sizes to be specified using Metric units of measure instead of Imperial units of measure. This would avoid errors from converting between two different units of measure.

    This website (https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/metric-typo/) also recommends the use of a publishing 'metric point' equivalent to .25 mm because it corresponds to the dot pitch of many computer monitors.

    There is also a unit of measure called the English Metric Unit that is equal to 914400, which would make it easier for your programmers to convert between Imperial and Metric units of measure. Please see http://polymathprogrammer.com/2009/10/22/english-metric-units-and-open-xml/.

16. Tailoring Fonts for Languages within Multilingual Documents

    Sometimes large documents that have been translated into other languages will still have English written in them (company names, brand names, stuff that original creator wants to remain in English). Many times the English text will use a specific font, but that font does not support other alphabets/characters that appear in other languages, so the unsupported text comes up as red boxes.

    There is no feature in InDesign that allows you to correctly identify the foreign language (all the red boxes) and lets you pick a different font WITHOUT changing the font for English. The only way to do this as of present is to manually highlight the red boxes line by line and pick a different font for that language, but if you have a 100 page document, this is painstakingly slow.

    Dear Adobe, for Desktop Publishers everywhere please consider this, it would save us countless hours of our lives.

17. Clipping masks with varied transparency

    The ability to apply an image as a clipping mask to another image from within InDesign instead of needing to rely on other software like Photoshop would be really helpful.

    I have hundreds of pages that need editing together with 1 - 3 images per page. Each of these images needs a png applied to them as a clipping mask with the text positioned around them. Currently the only way to do this in InDesign is to import something like a .psd file that you can't make live edits on. Constantly flicking between different software to get the layout right for a page is really time consuming.

    Affinity Publisher allows this really easily by simply right clicking an image in the layers panel and selecting Mask to Below. It would be great to see InDesign implement this is such an easy to use way as well.

    The images show the base black and white png you should be able to apply as a mask to a normal image and the effect it should give you. Currently InDesign's clipping masks don't respect the full transparency of the png because all they really do is change the frame and create a hard border.

18. Open other file formats in InDesign

    I love how I can create my publications amazingly with InDesign, but I really need to edit other files on devices.

    I have PUB files that I created when I was using Publisher 2019 back then, but I can't seem to open them with InDesign. Being the industry standard in desktop publishing, I can't believe that I cannot edit other files.

    I hope this gets added.

19. IP addresses viewing

    Please make IP addresses available for those that view published documents from InDesign. It protects the creator to know specifically who and when a document was viewed. Thanks.

20. This is the first time that my adobe indesign files are exporting to a blank document. I see the images; I know they are there.

    Why are the pages exporting to blank? I have not allowed bleed or slugs and they still export blank. I cannot upload my published book.
