I want to lock the palettes so I don't dislodge them accidentally
I have a tremor in my hands and dislodge my palettes when I try to open them. They are so sensitive! My tremor doesn't impact my work in any other way but this. It is frustrating and embarrassing when I am teaching InDesign to others. I have customized my workspace and I would like to "lock" it so I can't accidentally dislodge palettes. Of course I would still need to open and close and expand them as needed.

It would be great if you could change the language in paragraph styles for the entire document, rather than for each style individually. Similar to the "global light" in the effects. So a checkbox "Change language in the whole document" or "Global language"!

Wish for a character format option to suppress the automatic hyphen
I often have to set URLs in literature references. The hyphen must not be displayed, because this would corrupt the link - as it could happen e.g. with codelistings.
The actual hyphenation should not change, only the hyphen should be suppressed. This option could consequently also be offered for paragraph formats; as well as for manual formatting, comparable to »No Break«.
All in all, the procedure with this new option would be much faster than working with the »Discretionary Line Break« at every corresponding separation point. Please consider this option of suppressing the hyphen.

Enable more control panel and app bar customization
Please enable greater customization of the control panel (the top/bottom panel from the Essentials Classic workspace).
I realize you can customize which tools are included, however, it takes up too much space. Even if I reduce the number of tools to very few, the panel takes up two rows worth of space and all the tools are stacked (in two rows) at the far left of the panel. You also cannot arrange the order or position of the various tools.
I hate how much space the panels take up on the screen and that's part of the reason I like…

Redesign keyboard shortcut system to mimic that of After Effects
After effects uses a mappable graphic interface of a keyboard. Utilizing this interface would make reassigning keyboard shortcuts a much simpler and more intuitive endeavor. Along with allowing any command to be assignable to any keystroke/key combination it would be unbeatable. I don't understand why this isn't just the Adobe standard for all desktop applications. Can they not share? They put so much effort into syncing through the cloud but they don't put effort into matching their programs up to each other.

Make annoying datamerge save warning userfriendly
The warning window "You must turn off the data merge preview before you close the document..." must be changed. Its good to have straight hint what's have to be done by user, but in modern software we
need a better approach.
Like button "do it for me now and we continue" and even checkbox "always do that and never ask again" (ofc with undo somewhere in preferences or datamerge interface, see screenshots)1 vote -
Change the process of setting a default object style
Object styles are great, but it is way too easy to accidentally set an object style for all new objects. Suggest requiring a control click or a flyout panel menu item to 'set as new default object style for new objects'. I want my team to get more used to using object styles, but having a default style set by simply clicking on a style when nothing is selected is far too prone to user error and creates massive issues down the road.

Paragraph shading (and borders) should be able to clip/inset based on the text box
Paragraph shading extends outside of the text box. This is especially annoying when shaded text spans over multiple pages (see screenshot: AutoShading.png). It would be great if it could automatically clip and inset based on the text box—see screenshot: HowItShouldLook.png. The current solutions I can think of are really messy and easily negated.

Would like to be able to apply formatting to text variables
You should be able to somehow apply formatting to text variables. (See screenshot: TextVariable.png). The running header on the right hand page is based on the "chapter title" on the left hand page, but the italics can't be applied. It would be nice if you could apply a GREP style, or even a nested style, to the paragraph style that is applied to running header.

Would like to be able to anchor images anywhere and have the text wrap respected
Specific anchor location is important for placements in ePub/HTML exports. However, there are a couple major drawbacks with InDesign's current anchoring abilities.
(1) If an image is supposed to appear after a certain paragraph, but that paragraph ends on the previous spread, you cannot anchor the image to the paragraph it belongs with on the previous spread. (see screenshot: ToPreviousSpread.png). This seems to defeat the purpose of an anchored object. It can't be anchored so will not travel with re-flowing text and it will not Export to ePub/HTML in that specific location.
(2) Images cannot be anchored after their placement…

Fix/lock toolbar (avoid unintentional undocking)
Please add a feature to avoid undocking the toolbar. The Selection Tool (black arrow) is too near to the dotted line, indicating the draggable region of the toolbar. I've accidentally undocked the bar countless times. I mean hundred and hundred of times of cumbersomely dragging the toolbar back where it belongs. Especially when working fast on a big screen or multiscreen setup.
A suitable workaround is using keyboard shortcuts, but that's not a good solution for a UI flaw.

Expand PublishOnline Analytics (PART II)
Hello!
Would be possible to get the data of each document day by day instead of big figures? I mean, I would like to know how many people have read my document in the first 24 h after its publication, 2 days after, in the third day... and so on.
That´s very important (and urgent) for us in order to make decissions regarding contents.
Thank you very much in advance!1 vote -
Better text variables
Text variables are so... basic at the moment.
Can it get some love like GREPs search has? Unbelievable that you can't pull the first page or section titles... but how about some simple math operations in there too and combine them with GREP operations? Would be hugely useful to have some dynamic tools like this added to make on page information update in response to layout changes.

color profile black listing and/or whitelisting in preflight
Not everything that is RGB is bad in today's print publishing. While we certainly don't want to use sRGB images if we can avoid it, there are some good options for color spaces in media-neutral design workflows (e.g. eciRGB, Adobe RGB).
Being warned that certain undesirable color profiles are being used in linked images, and skipping those that are considered okay, should improve any modern desktop publishing workflow.
A "missing/no profile" option should also be included, as these cases completely defeat the purpose of color management workflows.1 vote -
Image Editing
Built-in image editing feature, lite version that has Hue/Saturation, Levels, and Curves for InDesign so it's quick and easy to manipulate images natively in InDesign, instead of back and forth between PS & ID.

Apply Paragraph Styles to a Table style by column
It would be really helpful if it was possible to design a table style that uses a particular paragraph style for each column.
For example, I currently build a catalog with multiple tables with either 3 or 4 columns. Column 1 is an item number that, column 2 is a product name, column 3 is the price, and column 4 is the price with discount in the case there's a promo. Each of those columns has a paragraph style defined (actually two, one with white text, one with black). I also already have a table style built based on if…

Find/Change Object Position
Feature request: add object position to Find/Change so the position of repeating objects can be changed en masse. Find/Change size would also be helpful.

Rounded corner table cells
We had some Adobe people here to showcase new features in Creative Cloud. One gentleman was named Jamie Ragen. I asked them if they have any intention to create a feature for rounded corners for table cells. The reason I find this important is that some clients have rounded corner objects as part of their style, and it would be good to match that with their tables. This would create a consistent look. Jamie was kind enough to suggest I bring this up in this forum. I hope this generates some action from Adobe.

Typesetter Mode: Disable Typing Toggle
I work for a book publisher and typeset hundreds of books a year. It would be nice to have a toggle that would disable the ability to add or remove characters from a text frame. Retain the ability to adjust leading, tracking, and other formatting, but prevent accidentally adding characters to the author's text. I currently map "W" to "esc" using keyboard shortcuts, but it would be a kind of nice feature to have built in.
