Changing Paragraph Style in InCopy story does not prompt check-out dialog
InDesign 13.1 and 14.0 both exhibit this behavior.
If you have an InCopy story that is not checked out to you, and you attempt to change a paragraph or character style, the following happens:
- The style change does not take effect (this is correct)
- The newly-selected style appears to be selected in the paragraph style panel (incorrect)
- The "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" dialog does not appear. (incorrect)
- I expect the "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?"…

Center-point auto-selected when rotating images in a content frame
I want this to be something I can set in InDesign with my workspace. If it isn't automatically set to centerm then allow me to change the preferences for the whole program.
I make manuals that require six photos a page, and I am always having to select the center point square in the rotation toolbar.
I would like the option for this to be my default.

Section specific controll of the "based on" featues in paragraph styles
Add a checkbox to each menu under the paragraph style options, to let the user check if a set of options should be inherited or overwritten.
A bit like the way we define specific live attributes when creating object styles.
The goal is to give the user greater control and insight into what attributes are overwritten, and easily add/remove/change them.

Multiple styles per element with cascade like CSS
So many documents get output into electronic formats now. The limitation of only one style per element (paragraph, character, object) makes it difficult to map what is happening in InDesign to good HTML and CSS.
If InDesign allowed multiple styles to be applied to an element, with cascade rules like CSS, then electronic output would be easier and the quality of generated markup could be improved. In addition, being able to apply simple style changes to override more comprehensive styles would simplify documents and reduce the number of styles needed to make little variations of design possible..

Allow InCopy to be edited remotely by 3rd Parties (eg clients)
We prepare large copy-heavy documents for our clients using InDesign and InCopy. However, our clients are not technically minded and do not have access (or the technical ability) to the Adobe software needed to open such documents and provide edits/comments.
We therefore have to cut/paste the InCopy into a Microsoft Word document and send this, so that the client can edit/change/comment as necessary. They then return the Word file to us, and we re-link or re-copy the changes back into InCopy.
Unfortunately, during this process we often lose the formatting and pagenation, increasing the time it takes for the edits…

Enable slanted headers in tables
Right now, in order to create a "slanted" header for tables (see attached graphic) you either have to create a separate table and slant the entire object, or create a slanted effect by using lines and text boxes. It would be great if there was an option to slant the entire row of text in a table.

Double truck - object that spreads across gutter
Ability to link object that spreads across double truck to both pages so that when document is viewed or exported as single pages, the object appears on both pages.

Viewing bleeds on two-page spread
Would be nice if any objects that bleed off the binding edge would be cropped to the page edge when viewed as a two-page spread.

It'd be so much more efficient to be able to put in a default value in editable form text fields in InDesign vs Acrobat.
I work on a creative team building editable form fields in InDesign for interactive pdf export. It'd be so much more efficient to be able to put in a DEFAULT VALUE OPTION with the correct InDesign formatting in editable form text fields in InDesign vs the limited option in Acrobat.

EPUB CSS output could be improved quite a lot
So I’m currently in charge of Readium CSS, which is a project related to Readium 2 (link: https://github.com/readium/readium-2), a complete rewrite of Readium SDK, which you may know in the form of a Chrome app – this Chrome app is actually advised by InDesign engineers in the InDesign forums whenever a rendering issue pops up so I assume InDesign engineers know it exists.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of CSS issues piling up right now and InDesign’s output could really do with some significant improvements to allow for better cross-platform support and rendering. Indeed, Readium 2/CSS is meant to…

Apply Multiple Master Pages per Page (Akin to Layers)
Ideally, InDesign would treat master pages like layers. In this manner, a variable number of master pages could be applied to any page, allowing for more efficient and quicker customization of page layout. For example, a user might set up the following master pages:
A-Body (1 Col.)
B-Body (2 Col.)
C-Body (Fig. or Table)
D-Header (Full)
E-Header (Partial)
F-Footer (Full)
G-Footer (Partial)In this example, the many possible combinations, such as AD, AF, ADF, AE, AG, AEG, BD, etc. (based on layout needs) wouldn't need to be created. More importantly, as in styles based on parent styles, changes would effectively…

Paste where mouse is pointing
When not using paste-in-place, the item in the clipboard should paste where your mouse is currently sitting on the screen.
The would save a lot of time when you don't need an item pasted in the same spot but rather in a certain area.

Add Anti-Alias Intent to text for graphic export
As web publishing has been an important part of InDesign since 5.5, it would be extremely helpful if anti-alias intent could be determined, either at a paragraph level or on output. Both Photoshop and Illustrator have this feature, and without it, export jpeg and png for web use is not up to publishing quality.
Relatedly, when an image is placed in a document at a scale other than 100%, it would be helpful if the downsampling/upsampling intent could similarly be chosen by the user.
Currently, the only way to produce publishable web materials from InDesign is to export a lossless…

Relative paths to external files
My goal is to do all the layout and linking in indesign then do an export to a PDF with hyperlinks. The PDF and all the external linked files will then be distributed to other computers via USB-stick or CD.
The links has to be relative for this to work and I would like to have that option in the hyperlinks pod/panel or when doing a PDF (or HTML export).
I have been waiting 10 years for this feature - I cant understand why it has not been implemented searching the internet. it must be a clear usecase for indesign.4 votes -
Make it possible to view names associated with user colors
InCopy allows users to pick user colors, which are displayed with tracked changes and with notes. But, far as I can tell, there's nowhere I can go to see which user is using each color, unless they leave a note. The editor spends valuable time playing detective about who's making which changes. Could you implement an "alt text" triggered by hovering over tracked changes, similar to how the username pops up when I hover over a note?
