In Mojikumi Table, paragraph indent size to be fixed without depending on the first character
InDesign Japanese Edition 15.0 or earlier
At present, the indent size depends on the attribute of the first character, so when the character with a different size or scale comes first, the indent amount changes.
Instead, I want the indent to be fixed based on the text size in the paragraph style or frame grid settings.
The attached image is the current specification.P.S. If the first character of a paragraph has a decoration such as an underline, the decoration will also accompany the indentation. I think this is a bug.(additional.jpg)

Allow border styles of top, right, bottom, left to vary
It would be great if you could have different border style for every of the four borders. In CSS it has been easy to specify different colours or stroke widths for ages. It would be great if you could do this in InDesign.

Stop appending the word "folder" to all package folder names
I really really really hate that I have to waste 8 keystrokes (yes, I count the down-arrow to get to the end of the package name) on every single package I make. At least give me the option to change the default suffix.

Groups, Smart Groups, and Searching in Links Panel
The links panel should support Groups and Smart Groups. Large numbers of links in projects -- especially those that include a lot of InCopy assignments -- get unwieldy.
Ideally you would be able to make groups and manually move links into them, and also create smart groups that would automatically update. Ideas for common filters that smart groups would be used for:
All CMKY images, all non-CMYK images, all InCopy links, all links that need to be updated, all links that are embedded or not, all links that are currently on a Hidden Layer or hidden via conditional text, etc.

Table of Contents: Character Style Improvements
TOCs need to be able to do three different things with character styles that are included in text in a generated TOC:
- The Character Style stays present in the TOC (this is currently what InDesign does)
- The Character Style is stripped.
- The Character Style is mapped to another character style.
These settings should accessible in the Style: <stylename> section of the TOC options -- customizable for each paragraph style used to generate the TOC.
The most notable use for the mapping style is when the typeface between the TOC and the body text of the book differs, or when the…

Export Book: Option to export documents in book as individual PDFs
When using the book export, it would be wonderful to have the option to export the documents that make up the book as separate PDFs.
This option would be useful whether exporting the entire book to PDF or exporting selected documents to PDF. Metadata embedded in each document of the book would be included in the export to pdf.
For example, I currently create a journal using the book function to pull together and organize the separate INDD files for the cover, TOC, and articles. Once the journal is completed, I need to generate the following PDFs:
- Entire journal as…

Various footnotes options/formatting
When there are two stories in the document (eg. text and translation) with different styles, it's necessary for the footnotes of each one to have different styles also.

Map tags to Object Styles
It would be great to map tags to not only paragraph and table styles, but also to object styles. Paragraph styles have some limitations wich object styles don't have.

Auto-activate adobe fonts in book panel
It would be helpful if InDesign could auto-activate any Adobe Fonts used in individual documents when adding them to a book file in the Book Panel.
Currently InDesign displays a message warning about missing fonts/reflow etc and the only way to activate the fonts is to open each document in turn and go through the activation process separately for every document.
It would be helpful to have the option to have InDesign activate any of these missing fonts that are available on Adobe Fonts automatically when a document is added, or as a book-wide feature like syncing.

Reduce paragraph panel
Coming here from CS5. Wish there was a way to edit the paragraph format panel so it only shows what you need. "Hide options" does not work as I do need "space above" for paging, and that disappears. I do NOT need drop caps in paragraph panel (that would be a paragraph style), or borders/shading (that would be an object style). Panel takes up way more space than I would like. Perhaps a "legacy" option to eliminate those unneeded elements.

1. Warping fonts easily like Aldus Typetwister or Typstyler. Preset by user for easy re-use. 2. Valuable for better design.
Adobe already owns Typetwister when it bought Aldus. Just incorporate it into InDesign. Welcome back to 1990.

Disable external plugins from earlier versions when packaging files
I find that some files created with cs5.5/cs6 use external plugins that get embedded in CC 2019 and then cause them to crash when opened on another system without those plugins. Is there any way to disable the plugins at the package stage? That would ideal.

Global Text Edit Across Multiple File Instances
A way to update one Master File, that populates multiple files.
One product > multiple instances
By changing text on "1" it would update the same text in the same spot for the different instances "1a,1b,1c"
1 > 1a > 1b > 1c

Table of Contents - Limit to subject lines to Character Style, option
Currently, the TOC will display an entire paragraph of text based on the Paragraph Style. I've assigned a unique Character style to give distinction to the first two sentences of the paragraph using Nested Styles within the Paragraph Style.
In the attached example, you'll see that "Subject 1. Setup." has a distinct Character style, this is the only text that I want to appear in the TOC. Perhaps there's a way to accomplish this. But It would be nice to have the option to populate text based on Character Style only.

Have the option to add dynamic or static captions to an anchored image.
It would be interesting to have the option to add dynamic or static captions to an anchored image.
On the 1st image, an anchored object, impossible to have the option to add dynamic or static captions.
On the 2nd one, not an anchored object, it's possible to add dynamic or static captions

Consolidate shared links when packaging a book
It would be great when packaging a book to consolidate links that are shared between documents to a "Shared Links" folder.
As currently if you have 5 chapter document which all have the same link placed in them - then this link will be duplicated 5 times when it is unnecessary and also creates problems when updating links later on

Ability to assign a shortcut to [None] in the Character Styles window.
Because you sometimes want to REMOVE a character style and it would be very beneficial to be able to use a shortcut for that as well.

Make "Justify Text Next to an Object" work in all cases
As it stands, text wrapping around an object only responds to this preference (and justifies) when it wraps around the left and right sides of the object. It should work even if it only wraps around one side.

Datamerge export as PDF/VT or other variable print file format (such as VPS)
I use the datamerge function alot to create variable print products such as letters with names and address etc. I also use variable graphivs too. The problem is that when I have an 80,000 run the PDF files and ripping times are getting longer and longer. Ideally I want to be able to export as a PDF/VT file format or a VPS. This will mean that instead of sending the graphics 80,000 times to the RIP of the printer it will instead send the graphic once and the data and graphics are assembled as it prints. There are external plugins…

MathML Support
We need to have InDesign to support MathML, this is much awaited feature, but not supporting in InDesign yet.
Currently we're using 3rd party plugins such as MathType, MathTools, PowerMath, etc. but not meeting our expectation, also high license cost than InDesign.
@ALL: Please support to include this feature in InDesign in the very near release.
660 votesMathML support was added to InDesign 2025 version.
Work on adding more options in future releases of InDesign has started.
