1. Placed pdf loses interactivity features and accessibility tags.

   When PDFs are placed into an InDesign layout and then the entire layout is exported to PDF, the placed PDFs are converted to <Figure> tags in the final PDF.

   There are many time when designers must incorporate an existing PDF into their documents, such as:

   -- Multi-page PDF of an existing document.

   -- A pre-made PDF AcroForm

   -- In annual reports, an official letter from a president, commissioner, or other authority.

   -- In financial reports, the required letter from the accounting firm as well as the financial balance sheets.

   In these above cases, the placed PDFs are official documents that can't be rebuilt in InDesign. They are already in the PDF format, accessible, and with other interactive features such as hyperlinks or form fields.

   But at this time, all of that is lost and the PDF becomes a static <Figure> with unreadable and inaccessible text. Alt-text is limited to 200-300 characters, so it can't be used to describe, for example, the pro-forma letter from the accounting firm that did the organization's audit.

   Suggested solution:
   As the designer is placing the PDF into the layout, they need to select whether a) the PDF is a graphic, or b) the PDF is a live document with interactive and accessibility features that must be maintained.

   If a) then it's correct to be tagged as <Figure> in the resulting PDF (this is what we now have).

   If b) then it must retain the live text, <Tags>, hyperlinks, buttons, and form fields and pass this information into the resulting PDF.

   Hi,
   What all things would you like PDF to retain? (alt text, tags and what else?)

   Currently when PDF is imported, its imported as a single graphic.

   Would you want the tags and alt text to be mapped to their correct assets in InDesign? and those tags and alt text be also editable from within InDesign after PDF is imported?

   Or should they be remapped and restored once the document with placed PDF is again exported to PDF from InDesign?

   Would want to know more about the proposed solution / workflow

2. Smarter Link Finding

   It would be great if InDesign used a bit of automated searching or AI to search for missing links. InDesign should be able to look for missing links and suggest them if a file with matching file name and metadata exists in the same folder, or set of folders as the working document. It would be fantastic if InDesign kept track of link metadata and automatically compared it to the OS-level indexing (like Spotlight) to automatically suggest the location of a missing link.

3. The ability to flick between pages on imported Indesign files

   Self explanatory - The ability to flick between pages on imported Indesign files without having to go to relink then navigate to the file, then to the page you want. A simple forward/back page button next to the link would speed up my workflow immensely.

6. Find all instances of a Paragraph Style

   Find all instances of a Paragraph Style in a document via the Paragraph Styles panel. Like you can see with Links, be able to view the pages that the styles exist on and jump to these pages by clicking on the page number in the panel or be able to navigate through them with up and down arrows

7. A new Switch tool

   Instead of ctrl+c, and ctrl+v, it could be invented a new function that switches existing text from a sentence to another. I would find it particularly useful in tables.
   Ex:
   I would like green apples
   I would like yellow lemons

   Select green, ctrl+whatever, select yellow

   Now I have

   I would like yellow apples
   I would like green lemons

8. PDF of thumbnails of file

   This is a basic feature request. Let me send clients a 2x2 or 3x3 thumbnail PDS for easy printing and comparison. Currently, the print dialog box says PDF of thumbnails not supported.

9. Fold marks in export settings for spreads

   Hello,

   I work with cover spreads quite a bit....3 facing pages. Back Cover-Spine-Front Cover. The printer I work with, a very large commercial printer, requests fold marks on the spine. They want them the same size/offset as the outer crop marks. When you have a spread and you check "crop marks" in the export settings, InDesign puts marks on the spine that are smaller and offset further away from the trim than the outer marks. They really do no good. I think it would be extremely beneficial if there was a "Fold Mark" option in the export settings for when you have a spread with a perfect bound spine. Setting them up manually is a bit of a pain when you have many to do.

10. Make Indesign UI bigger

    People have been complaining for years about Indesign's hard to see UI and the inability to make adequate changes. Why is it 2020, and this issue is still unresolved? I shouldn't have to change my Windows UI to make it better, which by the way it doesn't. Attached pic of my display at the recommend UI setting of 250% on a 15 inch screen.

11. Fixing what was not broken?

    Swatches Window:
    There is space at the bottom of the swatches menu to have buttons for the swatch types rather than grouping them into drop down menu. It takes more clicks and mousing around than it did in CS versions...

    Same goes for Rotating spreads. I need to do this often - It used to be in the root of the pages menu, now it's nested under page attributes. Less efficient...
    A drop menu at the bottom of the pages window might make sense for this feature?

    New CC Libraries menu... it looks nicer I guess but now I have to click back and then click the Library when before I simply clicked a drop down... less efficient!

12. Allow horizontal cursor position value to be copied

    The Paragraph Formatting Controls show the Horizontal Cursor Position. It contains a numerical value, but it cannot be selected for copying.

    I frequently use an "Indent to Here" character after an open quotation mark. But if I need to break a quotation into multiple paragraphs and quickly align the paragraphs to the position of the "Indent to Here" character, I need to manually enter the horizontal cursor position value into the Left Indent value.

    It would be helpful to be able to copy the value of the horizontal cursor position, so I could paste it into the Left Indent value.

14. Hyperlink Window Add-on Feature

    I know i'm not the only one who uses the typography workspace. But when creating an interactive PDF or E-Catalog of sorts hyperlinks can be one of the finest features. The problem: editing said hyperlinks. Not the editing of the links themselves but the fact that in order to we have to have our type cursor in or on the link. What about adding a button in the hyperlink window to speed up workflow for individuals who use the hyperlinks exclusively?

15. Hierarchical styles in panels

    Design the styles panels to show "based on" hierarchically. This way, we can trace back unused styles to their sources. I use a script to find "based on" for paragraph styles, but it would be better to visualize it.

16. Include 2 or 3 InCopy licenses in CC or InDesign subscriptions or MAKE IT FREE!

    InCopy is a great collaboration tool between two or more people.

    But the way Creative Cloud subscription is going, InDesign is a powerful tool to me, but InCopy is totally USELESS. As a designer (not writer), I never need to use InDesign and InCopy at same time. In fact, I never need to use InCopy myself at all. InDesign along with InCopy suppose at least two people working on same job. Most of time the writer, who could actually use InCopy, is my client. It makes no sense to include InDesign and InCopy expecting that the same person will use both.
    The great problem is I can’t convince my clients to monthly subscribe to InCopy (even costing U$ 5) to do seasonal jobs. They would not like to pay for a service that I should provide for what they’re paying me. “Dear client, please pay subscription to make things easy for me”, simply doesn't exists.
    But I do not want to give my Creative Cloud credentials to my clients, allowing them to install InCopy on their computers to collaborate with my designs (activation on 2 computers is allowed as long as using one at a time).
    I have one InCopy license in my subscription which I don’t use myself (don’t need to) or cannot “lend” to my clients. That’s why is useless.
    So why don't include 2 or 3 InCopy licenses in Creative Cloud or InDesign subscription, independent to subscriber’s credentials, so one could distribute to clients who don't need/want/like to pay for a subscription themselves? Or, at least, allow subscriber to distribute the already included InCopy. Since is useless to me, let someone else use it to help me and avoid Word or e-mail to send texts to place.
    Installation and user permissions could be managed by e-mails allowed by CC’s subscriber.
    I'm the creative in the process paying for Creative Cloud subscription, not my clients.
    Give a good purpose to include InCopy in CC subscription. Thanks.

17. Recent document list remembers templates

    The recent documents feature (File > Open Recent > [list of recent files]) seems to be based on files saved, not files opened. If I open a template if does not get added to the recent files. I might open the same template five times a day, but it never appears in the Open Recent list. This should be corrected or an option to include recent templates added in Preferences > File Handling. See example.

18. Zero Point manipulation like illustrator

    I would like the ability move the 0,0 point crosshairs to an arbitrary place, copy an object, move to a different page or spread, move the zero point arbitrarily, and then paste the object into the exact same place relative to the 0,0 point, as in illustrator.

20. All those missing Pantone Colours

    Has anyone else out there found themselves wondering why Adobe products don't have the very latest Pantone swatches installed as standard? I have a situation today where a customer has found a specific Pantone colour they want to use in a project - but it's a Pantone Plus colour, PMS 2374. If you try to add this swatch in InDesign it won't be there.

    It seems that the only way I can use this PMS colour is to buy a bit of software from Pantone called 'Pantone Color Manager' that costs £90.

    I just find myself thinking that I already pay for my Adobe software so it seems a bit much to have to pay more. Does anyone else feel the same way?

    I know Adobe and Pantone are different companies , but surely some kind of deal could be struck. After all, Pantone colours are pretty integral to most design processes and as designers we can't avoid using them.
