Adobe InDesign teamAn error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedBtw. the Czech dictionary Winsoft is completely broken in CC2020: it marks all words starting with lower case letter as wrong and recommends capitalising ALL words. Unfortunately the Winsoft dictionary is the only option as both Hunspell and Proximity are really bad. I will log a separate bug.

The proper way to use this feature has been explained. It works like this:
The extra text frame (containing the Previous/Next Page Number) need not be linked to the text frame to which it refers. It just has to touch that text frame.
The way this feature works is that you have a text frame that contains some text on a certain page. That text continues on a different page that is random. So, for example, in a magazine, you have an article that starts on page 11, and then it continues on page 80. In that case, you will create a separate text frame on page 11, make it touch the text frame that contains the article and put "Continued on Page . Similarly, on page 80, you will create a separate text frame and make it touch the article and put "Continued from Page .
When you do…An error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedHi, The problem is obviously in wrong description of the feature. If you would name it correctly as “Next Frame Page Number” or “Previous Frame Page Number”, it would be clear what is the purpose of this feature. Unfortunately the name is confusing and many users expect different behaviour. Affinity Publisher has the same feature but it is called exactly “Next Frame Page Number”.
I will log a feature request to add proper “Next Page Number” and “Previous Page Number” as an addition to existing functionality. As a teacher, I know many students request the missing feature because they want to place page numbers in a form “10–11” on one page of a spread only. This is very complicated now and in some situation not possible at all (even with the linked text frame trick).
An error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedHi John, I've been reporting this bug since 2000 or so.
Unfortunately, Adobe refuses to correct it, they claim this is the expected behaviour! Ha ha ha. It is a pity the programmers never use the app.
There is a workaround. Create an extra text frame on the page you want to refer to and link both text frames together. Then the Next page number will work es expected. But the second text frame must be placed on the next page. You can place both linked text frames in page template, it will work. Annoying, stupid, very slow, but at least it works for a spread.

To identify the cause of this issue, we started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received an email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.
We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the following: Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.
We recommend you upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2025(v20.0.0.095) as it is more robust and contains a lot of bug fixes.
We seek your support in our continual effort to improve InDesign.

The issue has been fixed in the latest release of InDesign – InDesign 2021. The fix was also available in the previous version of InDesign – version 15.1.2
Please update to either of these versions of InDesign to get the fix.—
Adobe InDesign teamAn error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedVersion 15.1.1.103 and guess what, Variable Fonts are still not supported properly in InDesign CC2020.
PLEASE FIX THIS.An error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedVersion 15.1 – no surprise, this bug is still there and Variable Font DO NOT work properly in InDesign CC2020.
PLEASE FIX THIS.An error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedHey Adobe, could you please finally implement real Variable Font support? I just tried the latest build (15.0.3.422) and it is still not working.
An error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedHello, is this a very late April Fool's joke?
The issue was NOT fixed at all.
When I try to use the slider, all I get is a the lightest instance. There is no way to select preferred wight (in case of my test font).
I can select predefined instances, that's all. Please check the functionality before you announce bug correction next time.
Filip Blazek supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Filip Blazek commentedThis is another example of a Variable Font not working in Adobe InDesign CC 2020. If the font contains predefined instances (Regular, Medium, Bold etc.), you cannot use the slider in InDesign. The only solution is to keep one instance in the font (Regular), but this is not a solution users expect. Please correct VF support in InDesign.

Hey Adobe, could you please fix the Czech UI? (And please stop using Google Translate, the Czech terminology related to new features is pathetic.)
