The system fonts issue that Adobe has claimed to be fixed in the 15.0.3 update has not been fixed. Indesign on Mojave will not recognize Avenir and Avenir Next.
Adobe, please make a priority to revisit this issue and correct, it is causing major issues. We have two large clients as well who use Avenir as primary fonts in their publications, and it is stalling their production.
In the meantime, please offer any suggestions for workarounds, so that us and our clientele do not continue to lose time and money.

NOT FIXED. Avenir issue is still occurring with 15.0.3 on Mojave.
Seriously, Adobe, your quality control is getting worse with every release. An error occurred while saving the comment troyjack commented
Same problem here, with Avenir Next. Closing and reopening the document (with no other docs open that use the same font) fixes it... As a (hopefully temporary) work-around.
I don't know what happened, but 15.0.2 is proving to be the buggiest version of Indesign I've ever used. -

This is a MAJOR catastrophic issue. File packages are being permanently lost due to being overwritten by the "empty" package that is inadvertently generated when opening an INDD file. When opening an INDD file a new package is created in random locations, and that new package only contains the AdobeFont.lst. This is causing major confusion in our workflow, as employees think this new "empty" package is the latest package, thus moving it to its proper location in our backup system and overwriting the actual package that contains the INDD and links. Artwork that has taken hours to complete gone forever. We cannot alter our workflow to accommodate this ridiculous bug. Adobe needs to make this fix a priority. Indesign needs to function properly and URGENTLY.

Same here, was starting to go crazy trying to figure out what was happening. Glad to see I'm not the only one.... NOT glad to see Adobe broke something once again...

I see that my issue was merged with this one, although it seems to be a completely separate issue. I get the popup when zero files are open in Indesign, and while I am working in other applications with Indesign hidden or minimized. I'll also add that due to company policy, we never place PDF files into Indesign because of some incidents that occurred many years ago. The message I am getting is "failed to EXPORT" rather than "failed to OPEN".
Running on OS 10.13.6.An error occurred while saving the comment troyjack commented
Indesign randomly - and seemingly out of nowhere - pops up the "failed to export to pdf" message, even when no Indesign files are currently open, and even when I am working in another application. When it pops up it interrupts whatever app I am currently working in. This time it happened while I was working in Acrobat Pro DC (working with a file that has no origin in Indesign)

I agree 1000x. Would like to see the same fix for when sending to print. Very annoying and non-efficient to set all parameters, only to be told that a link is missing or needs to be updated AFTER. This would be very beneficial to anyone working with a file with a large amount of links in a time-sensitive environment.

Interesting... I just tested Matt's suggestion about selecting the text and reselecting the current color, and magically every Avenir font in the file was ok. This was on a problem file that has been giving me Avenir issues for a while now. Great idea, Matt!
