Bug in Adobe World-Ready Composer for Kannada Language
Attached are Adobe Indesign document, Scribus (v1.5.3) document, PDF outputs.
Fonts used: Hubballi available at https://github.com/erinmclaughlin/Hubballi/blob/master/build/Hubballi-Regular.otf
Tunga: Available in Windows 10 as part of Kannada language pack.
Scribus uses "Harfbuzz" text shaping engine. It doesn't any issue shaping Kannada text, except for one case; U+0CCD U+200D which is canonical equivalence of U+200D U+0CCD. Harfbuzz has accepted this bug and will be fixed in the next release. https://github.com/behdad/harfbuzz/issues/435 https://github.com/behdad/harfbuzz/issues/341

Text Frame Otpion
Text hops around in text box from top to bottom when moving text frame. I have seen a lot people online having the same issue. Only work around, and it's just that a work around not a fix, every time you place text you have to go to Object>Text Frame Options>Baseline Option and click "Use Custom Baseline Grid". Doing this every single time I place text is getting rather tedious. Just encountered bug today, restarted both indesign and imac, the bug stayed. About to re-install indesign all together.

Shortcuts messed up after update to CC
InDesign CC 12.1.0.56 (2017.1)
MacOS Sierra 10.12.5(1) The default super- and subscript shortcuts (cmd+shift+= and ctrl+cmd+shift+=) do not work on mac num keyboard. Had to change shortcuts.
(2) When using the default shortcut for italics (cmd+shift+I) the text is changed to "Heavy Italic" instead of "Italic" with the (legal) Avenir Next font family.4 votes -
Locked objects get selected
Not sure why adobe changed the lock of an item. It used to work perfect to lock my background objects. Now, it I have background objects; they still get selected even if they are locked; it's such a huge inconvenience and waste of time to sort selected objects. Please fix or put back the lock object.

import options are collapsed (CC2017)
when importing a file, the import options are collapsed, so you always have to check if the "import options" are marked. can reproduce. should be uncollapsed like the versions before.
4 votesPlease update InDesign to the latest version, InDesign CC 2018 (13.0) for the fix of the issue.

Change to gap tool made it useless for measurement
PRior to the latest update I could use the gap tool to hover between items and see in a moment the distance between them. Now the text color is so pale I can barely see it when hovering. Probably not an intentional change.
4 votesWe have made improvements to the readability aspect in the Control panel fields when using the Gap Tool in InDesign CC 2018. You will see a marked change as compared to InDesign CC 2017.
Closing this thread as we are no more hearing from users about this issue. Thanks,

Running Header Removes ZWNJ (Zero-width non-joiner) Character (U+200C)
I want to use Running Header to have the section name at the top of the pages.
The section title has Zwnj character (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-width_non-joiner) but running header removes this character (U+200C).

InDesign interface has issues after exiting touch mode
To replicate the bug, have at least two documents open.
After using touch mode and then switching to normal (essentials), the status bar at the end of the current document (contains pages, etc.) will look a little rough. In the document that was not focused, the entire status bar background is missing. In addition, on that document the scrollbars disappear and flash while you scroll, which is a little disturbing for your eyes.4 votes -

Variable Fonts in inDesign show different hinting results when compared to other environments
InDesign v20.3.1 x64, Windows 11
It appears that inDesign is maybe not able to correctly variate CVT values, causing unexpected hinting results. It seems as though CVT values that are used depend on the variable font’s default style/source. A possible way to recreate the issue: Compare the same variable font built in the same way but with a different default source set for each. If Hair (weight: 100) is set as the default, then it will appear in inDesign as if the Regular (weight: 400) is maybe using the CVT values of the Hair. This is shown in the first screenshot. It is not possible to recreate this issue in another environment such as Chrome. You would expect the choice of default style to not have any effect on the hinting result.
Also attached is a screenshot that looks at the difference between a static and variable version of a Windows font: Segoe UI. Although this example is less valuable as it does not show as stark of a visual difference as the first screenshot and the static and variable versions are not exact matches, it stands to show a difference in variable font hinting that I found difficult to recreate in other environments outside of inDesign, possibly alluding to inDesign doing something unique with how it handles hinting in variable fonts.
The screenshot examples use 18pt size text.

leave User Workspaces ALONE
Leave User Workspaces ALONE!! Updates should automatically grab the current workspaces and copy them in, STOP trying to shove three versions of "essentials" down our throats. Not all of us have admin access, so deleting after every update isnt an option. It also stops non-admin users from migrating manually. To say this is frustrating would be an understatement.
"Essentials" is TRASH, but every **** update removes any custom ones I have (YES even if I choose migrate, it doesnt do anything so I stopped bothering) and force it into "Essentials". Just STOP. You DO NOT know our workspaces better than us. This shouldnt be difficult, but Adobe has been doing this for years, and now InDesign 2025 has THREE different Essentials? Thats missing the point entirely and then congratulating yourself for it.

Bizarre issue: footnote appearing in middle of text frame
Never seen this one before! Changing some text to a style that uses split columns caused one of the footnotes in the text frame to jump to ABOVE the styled text. I can't even understand how this is possible given the logic of the software. See screenshot. I would like my footnotes to stay at the foot of the frame, please.

Subject: Why Did You Break the Zoom Tool in InDesign?
Subject: Why Did You Break the Zoom Tool in InDesign?
Dear Adobe Team,
Can someone please explain why the Command + Space + drag-to-zoom behavior in InDesign was altered? This used to be a seamless, intuitive part of the workflow — one of those tiny things that made a big difference for power users.
Now, depending on the version or OS, it either doesn’t work, lags, or flat-out refuses to cooperate unless I perform keyboard yoga. This is not an improvement. This is disruption disguised as innovation.
I’m not asking for a new feature. I’m asking you to restore a basic function that worked perfectly well for decades. Was there truly a wave of users begging you to complicate the zoom tool?
Please bring back the classic Command + Space + drag zoom behavior. Some of us have muscle memory older than your interns.
Sincerely,
Kim Fowler

Hyperlinks to text anchors deleted when exporting to PDF and using Adobe World-Ready composers
The Adobe World-Ready composers break hyperlinks to internal text anchors when the document is exported to PDF.
Internal document links are composed of a source and a destination. The hyperlinks seem to get dropped when the destination is in a paragraph that uses one of the World-Ready composers.
The hyperlinks appear to work correctly in the hyperlinks panel within InDesign. It's only once the file is exported to a PDF and opened in a program like Acrobat that this issue becomes apparent. When reviewing the output in Acrobat, the destination no longer appears to be present in the document at all.
This does not seem to be a problem when Adobe Single-line Composer or Adobe Paragraph Composer are used, but this is not always a realistic solution.
This is an issue in at least the last 2 major versions of InDesign (19.X and 20.X).

variable fonts
In a TrueType based variable font, if some nodes have implied deltas at the edge of outline, that edge can jump around as seen in the attached video. The right stem of the "n" should stay on the baseline. And it does in all other environment that I tested (Illustrator, Photoshop, Chrome, Safari …).
I tried to attach the font but get an error that .ttf and .zip files are not allowed. Here is a link to the file in dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/69ynar0ds0k44fhsuge2j/ImpliedDeltasVF.ttf?rlkey=zccl17cd67ru4oat5qlt2eb99&st=c469cifb&dl=0

Character style applied to Table of Contents header
When creating a book's table of contents (TOC), if you apply a character style to the first chapter, that style is applied to the TOC entry but it's also wrongly applied to the TOC header as well. It seems to be taking whatever character style that's applied to the first letter in the first chapter.
I have a sample file I can send.
Tested in InDesign 2024 and 2022 for Mac.
Discussed here:

Error message is seen while opening InDesign after Photoshop 26.5 update
Problem Description
After the PhotoShop 26.5 update this morning, when opening InDesign, I got an error popup regarding a missing startup script in PhotoShop. The same thing does not happen in other CC apps.
Workaround 1:
- Uninstall Photoshop 26.5 (make sure to remove preferences).
- Reinstall Photoshop 26.5. This will install the correct “photoshop_v2025.jsx”.
Workaround 2:
- Open jsx, which is available at "/Library/application support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CC/Adobe Photoshop/" mentioned in the alert in the Text Editor
- Add } in the last line
