  1. Restart endnote numbering within a single document

I love that endnotes are now a feature, but am finding them to make my job more difficult as they are currently.

I'd love to see a way to restart endnote numbering within a single document--maybe after a certain paragraph style is used or after a section break. With a multi-hundred page document, it looks more clean (both in the text and in the endnotes section) and is more manageable to have lower numbers.

  2. Allow footnotes to renumber in same document

When importing a Word document with footnotes or endnotes that are continuous, add feature to begin renumbering footnotes from 1 for each chapter or section. It does not work in the current versions of InDesign CC even with the preferences set to renumber with each new section when the text file is linked from section to section.

  3. Text Variable "Running Header" to work across indvidual Indesign files within a Indesign Book

"Running Header" working across multiple indesign files within a book would allow a more modular approach to book production: common elements such as headers and footers can changed globally within a book, that shares some of its content i.e. individual indesign files, with another book but whose headers and footers must be different.

  4. Indesign CJK Version Request : Standard Vertical Roman Alignment

Please add the simple feature of standard vertical roman alignment in adobe indesign CJK version as well.

In all the other versions of Indesign, and also in other basic applications like the photoshop or illustrator, there is an option to vertically align roman alphabets. However, in the CJK version, the vertical writing tool only provides the option to typeset the roman alphabets and numbers in a 90 degree rotated way.

If I wanted to write them vertically without having to rotate it, I have to manually do so in Character settings, but that is not a good option since…

  5. Share for Review: Tracking Resolved Comments

While the Share for Review option is so handy for clients to make edits, it is a nightmare to track what has been implemented because as soon as the edit is resolved it becomes unmapped.

It is very hard to keep track of revisions so I would love a feature to glance back on previous versions (either by highlighting, creating a pdf including comments, or a window that you can click a page to see before and after results) to see where the markups where made. Clicking back to unresolved doesn't work because once a change is made the text

  6. Still need MORE design options Forms via InDesign

This is still a current problem, it has been posted before but CLEARLY many people still have this frustrating problem that InDesign cannot preform the ENTIRE task of design and execution of an interactive form without the use of Acrobat. Specifically text colour and alignment/positioning in field.

  7. Add "Page" to the "Search in:" options, for both Find/Change and Spell Check

In Find/Change and Spell Check dialogs, we have ability to search within a [Story] [To end of story] [Selection] or [Document]. I would like to see [Current Page] added that options list. Even better would be the ability to specify a [Page Range XX-XX]

[Story] is too specific when we have a bunch of separate text boxes to search through. And [Document] is often way too broad for large documents, and it also searches master pages that we may not wish to search. [Current Page] or [Page Range] would be a really nice middle-ground for both regular Find/Changes and Spell…

  8. paragraph alignment

Paragraph alignment is not displaying correctly when it is used on tables created in previous files, even though you are in a new or an old document. The only way to do it is by using cell insets on the properties tab. So it makes it useless unless you create new tables with new formats. It would be great to fix this bug so the alignments are displayed in the paragraph alignment tab, and make cell insets a new tab so I can see specifically this option on the main windows.

  9. Make 'Character Style' have bullet options

It would be useful to be able to define bullets as part of a character style, rather than a separate paragraph style.

Often, bullet paragraphs only differ from the body text by the addition of a bullet and the associated indent.

Being able to define bullets as a character attribute, rather than a paragraph style, would allow more flexibility with the new options concerning consecutive paragraphs of the same style (borders, spacing).

If I have a paragraph of text and then a couple of paragraphs of bullets, but the bullets were defined by a character style I could have a…

  10. Allow set Style Override Highlighter as red stroke instead of blue background color so that it does not obscure style highlighting

Style Override Highlighter's appearance (blue background) conflicts with the still existing feature of highlighting styles with different colors, in order to visually identify what parts of the text use what style, accessible via scripts such as Stylighter (http://www.indiscripts.com/post/2013/11/stylighter-1-4-for-indesign-cs4-cs5-cs6-cc).

Being able to set it back to red stroke over text instead of a background color, as it was before the Style Override Highlighter button was officially added, would allow to see at the same time the style being used (by the color of the background) and whether it had overrides (by the presence of a red stroke). That was…

  11. Watermark-option when pdf-export (interactive) from InDesign

When you export a pdf-file from InDesign (as an interactive pdf), there should be an option for watermarks.
With this option you could save time because you don’t have to use Acrobat afterwards or create a new layer in InDesign.

In Acrobat this option is already available, but with more opportunities (you don't need so many). It would be enough to have the following possibilities:
    - „text of your choice“
    - text scale
    - text opacity
    - text angle (0°, 45°, 90°)

  12. Live Preflight reporting a false error with OpenType Type 1 fonts

InDesign's Live Preflight will wrongly flag an OpenType Type 1 (PostScript flavored) font as invalid when the font appears in a linked graphic.

    To recreate:
    1. Create an InDesign Preflight Profile
    2. Set it to flag Type 1 fonts as Font Type Not allowed.
    3. Create a new InDesign document.
    4. Add text using an OpenType Type 1 font.
    5. Turn on the preflight.
The preflight will not signal an error. This is expected and correct.
    6. Now export a PDF of the document created.
    7. Create a new InDesign document.
    8. Place the PDF as a linked graphic into…

  13. TOC - Update page numbers only

Update page numbers only in TOC (like it is possible in a common Text Processing software) would save a lot of time, as we often insert styling and manual line warps in the TOC for aestetical reasons and have to redo it as TOC has to be refreshed and overwrites everything.

The suggestion in this forum to create Cross-References would also be a nice solution to this problem.

  14. Cross-Reference feature

I'm an avid user of InDesign; currently working on a book-length document of about 150 pages. I often want to cross-reference something said earlier; however it is buried somewhere in the hundreds of paragraphs of the article story format. That means it's very hard to find that paragraph so that I can simply refer to the page number it's on (see attached file of image capture).

Here's my suggestion: Add a field in the cross-reference dialog box where you can copy in a few leading words of the paragraph you want to find, then have the paragraph text field find…

  15. Import files from Apple pages

In last time I got more and more Apple-pages-files as text-source. It would be great if you could import them without detours through other file formats.

  16. Dependent font sizes

Allow for Character styles to have a font size relative to the underlying Paragraph style by adding and subtracting (or even multiplication and division). A Character style’s font size could be -2 pt or +2 pt for example. If the Paragraph style’s font size is 14 pt, the Character style’s fonts size would result in 12 pt or 16 pt. This is very practical for optical adjustment of different typefaces for example, keeping everything dynamic.

  17. Add feature to Buttons and Forms

In the Text Field, if there could be an option for auto scalable type, which would automatically scale while writing in a interactive PDF. This would allow the writer to write without exceeding the set text field, which could later be printed instead of hidden when printed, when the scrollable option is selected. The current options are set, scrollable or set font size. It would create a more dynamic set text field.
Also a prompt description in the text field which disappears when writing.

  18. "Accept" to convert PDF underline to Italics

Editors use underline to indicate Italics when they mark up PDFs. While the underline shows up when you import PDF comments, there's no way to change that text to Italics.

  19. Procentual increasing of font size

When a text box has multiple text sizes and you want to increase all the sizes, it would be great to be able to do that with for example procentual increasing.

  20. Link Font Size with Leading

As someone who is often laying out text in large booklet type documents, I often need to adjust text and leading on text to visually suit the design Im working on. An annoying function Ive run into (definitely not the end of the world) is that if I may need to adjust the size of the font and the leading of it to suit what I need... If I then adjust the size of the text, the 'custom' leading size doesn't constrain to the size of the font as you increase it.

This would be an awesome feature to…
