  1. Add an option to rasterize chosen graphic objects on export (especially vectors)

Often we have to work with vectors, and often they take up a lot of space, which leads to the growth of the final PDF document and the slow rendering of the document in browsers. The trick with reducing transparency, when we make the selected frames 99% opaque and turn on the flattener, does not always give a good quality result and can cause stitching.
I suggest adding the option "rasterize" to the settings of the style of the graphic frame, so during the export the vector object is replaced with a raster copy. The quality settings for rasterization can…

  3. PDF comments: Import, respect, and filter against comment colors in InDesign

Please make all of this available in InDesign:

    – Show the comment colored in InDesign as it is in Acrobat.

    – Let us filter against comment color in InDesign as it is possible in Acrobat.

By default Acrobat comments use different colors. Furthermore the Acrobat user can choose any color for a specific comment or redefine the color for a comment type as he likes to.
In Acrobat I can even filter all comments by comment color.
This is quite useful, as it gives the user a good way to distinguish e.g. between typo corrections, grammatical corrections, and other types.…

  4. Need MORE features in InDesign's FORM tools.

We need more controls in InDesign's FORMS tools.

Although this was requested in https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/20482882-more-options-when-creating-forms-via-indesign, it was closed after font controls were added.

That's Not Enough! In fact, it's probably the least needed form feature of all.

The short list of what's needed:

    — Add calculations and formula to a form field.

    — Add JavaScripts and other programming to a form field.

    — Color the background fill of a form field...and have it "stick" in the PDF, not be overridden by the user's Acrobat settings.

    — When using tables to create a matrix of form fields for layout purposes,…

  5. Ability to embed PDF files within an InDesign file (not place pages)

It would be ideal to have the ability to embed PDF's within an offline InDesign File (as you can do with Microsoft Word).
Example use: embedding updated documents in to a company newsletter

  6. Artifact dot leaders

When dealing with accessibility compliance and Table of Contents, it is best practice to artifact the dot leaders so the user does not have to listen to "dot dot dot" or "35-dot" before each page number. If we could assign a artifact TAG to the leader in the panel when we create the TOC settings that would save HOURS of work on the PDF side having to artifact each one.

  7. Push Out Compensation for Perfect Binding on PDF Export

Being able to take a facing page document and adding an amount of cross over bleed from the spine and scaling that amount from the spine to the outer trim would be invaluable to my workflow for large perfect binding books. As it is now stands, I have to separate each spread to single pages and create bleeds towards the spine and move/scale each page to allow for artwork alignment in the final printing and binding.

  8. Add image sharpening before output

We should be able to apply sharpening (such as "unsharp masking") to images on the InDesign page.
Currently, the only solution is to place an image, scale it to size in InDesign, and then go back to Photoshop to scale it, resample it (change to proper resolution), and then apply appropriate sharpening… and then go update or re-place it in InDesign. It is very inefficient!
I want InDesign to apply global-sharpening to an image at the proper size, when it outputs to PDF or prints.

  9. DATA MERGE - Multiple or Single Page Import from Ai or PDF

I would like to be able to import multiple artboards or pages from an Illustrator file or PDF document when using Data Merge.

    For example:

    Column K
    @Images
    R:\Customer\SALES ORDERS\SOnumber\Working\01-0001.ai:1 ( Design to be printed in Artboard 1 )

    Column L
    @Images
    R:\Customer\SALES ORDERS\SOnumber\Working\01-0001.ai:2 ( Spot colours listed in Artboard 2 )

I use Data Merge for creating Prepress proofs for large orders, and we have to show the design to be printed and the spot colours used on each document.

The issue is that InDesign won't list the colours used per page only per document, so my solution is…

  10. Ability to add alternate text to long hyperlinks

One of the suggested techniques for complying with WCAG 2.0 AA is to provide alternate text for long urls so that screen readers read the alt text rather than the url when tabbing through. This can only be done in acrobat at the moment. Which means it has to be done every time a PDF is created. We regularly amend our files and have many documents with many long (2 line) urls so it is going to be very time consuming to do this every time we create a PDF. I appreciate one way round it is to have…

  11. Form Field Calculations in InDesign

With InDesign's form tools, we're missing the ability to add calculations to form fields in InDesign, and that task must be done manually in Acrobat.

To start, I'd like to be able to build simple calcs into my InDesign forms. Example:

And expense report has a form field for each day of the week, and then a total for all of the days. Would like a simple summation calc that I could use for rows of fields or columns of fields. Or both!

Another example: multiplication of quantity times price. Or multiplication of 5% sales tax on an amount field.

Feature Request: Use Alternate Layout Name as Export File Name

When exporting documents from InDesign (especially to JPG, PNG, PDF, or other formats), it would be extremely useful to have an option to automatically use the Alternate Layout name as the exported file name.

Many designers use Alternate Layouts to manage different languages, formats, or versions within a single document. Currently, although each layout has a name, that information is not available during export, forcing users to rename files manually or rely on scripts.

    Suggested option:

Add a checkbox in the Export dialog:
Use Alternate Layout name as file…

  13. Converting Microsoft Publisher docs to InDesign

Marksware used to have a great conversion program (PUB2IND) , but they no longer make it, and my version only works with CS3, which came on my used mac that I purchased. Now I am having trouble with that computer and have to transfer it to another, which is an entirely different problem. Working with old systems/programs is problematic to sat the least. I would very much like to see something built into InDesign that would convert these files.

  15. Export to a Word/.doc file

Would like to be able to export a project to Word. Which typically exporting to PDF is fine, there are some clients that require us to send them Word/.doc file. I've been exporting to PDF and from there exporting to Word, but that means much of the formatting is lost.

  16. Increase slug area limit

We create presentation slides, export them as pdf.

These pdf slides are connected to a notes booklet for attendees.

We want to create a version for the presenter and include notes in the slug area. but the slug area can only be a maximum of 152mm wide. Can you please increase this limit.

  17. When creating/editing a PDF Export Preset, please make the "View pdf after export" available again. It is currently gray'ed out.

It is currently gray'ed out during preset creation, but had been available for MANY previous versions. I hate it that my PDFs no longer open automatically in Acrobat after creation. I found it VERY useful.

  18. Share for review user interface change to the same as shared online PDFs

Really like the Share for Review feature however the interface differs slightly to exporting to pdf and sharing an online pdf. Having explored both ways to get client feedback on designs, although as the designer I prefer Share for Review (the ability to update the link with latest changes and being able to review comments direct in InDesign through the 'Review' tab), the clients find the interface on the online shared pdf easier and clearer to use and less buggy. Could InDesigns Share for Review have the same interface/features as the online shared PDF interface.

  19. Estimated Output Size

When saving a PDF output, it would be nice to choose your saving options (image quality, resolution) and get an estimated size. Like if you know you need something under 10MB, you could adjust your settings to match that without having to retry saving until you get the right size.
