Need MORE features in InDesign's FORM tools.
We need more controls in InDesign's FORMS tools.
Although this was requested in https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests/suggestions/20482882-more-options-when-creating-forms-via-indesign, it was closed after font controls were added.
That's Not Enough! In fact, it's probably the least needed form feature of all.
The short list of what's needed:
— Add calculations and formula to a form field.
— Add JavaScripts and other programming to a form field.
— Color the background fill of a form field...and have it "stick" in the PDF, not be overridden by the user's Acrobat settings.
— When using tables to create a matrix of form fields for layout purposes,…

InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text (Accessibility)
InDesign Cannot Set Actual Text
InDesign has no way of setting actual text. This can only be done in PDF. Actual text is set when acronyms are used. Access technologies such as screen readers cannot properly read acronyms such as USA. They voice them as words, like "Youusah." Actual text has to be set for the document to be read correctly. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for setting actual text in Acrobat is…

End-notes and Footnotes URLS
I do a lot of books for Print and digital (pdf and ePub). End-notes have always been a problem, even now that Indesign supports End-notes.
For PDF and ePub export , in order to have the end-note reference clickable to redirect the user to it's corresponding end-note, then a link back again, I have to do this manually.
This is a massive manual process...
Let's say I have 100 end-notes. With each end-note reference, I have to place a new 'Hyperlink Destination' (for the return link)... That's going through the document, and placing 100 hyperlink destinations.
Then, I go…

Placeholder Text Feature
Seeing as InDesign has interactive PDFs in mind giving us the ability to create forms easily and then export them as a PDF to open in Acrobat, I feel like a feature to inset placeholder text to fields shouldn't be too difficult to implement.
To clarify, I was hoping to find an option under the Buttons and Forms toolbox that allows us to check off a box for placeholder text so when someone types in the field the original text there is overwritten with the new content. Like a "W" for width and an "L" for length in field…

Estimated Output Size
When saving a PDF output, it would be nice to choose your saving options (image quality, resolution) and get an estimated size. Like if you know you need something under 10MB, you could adjust your settings to match that without having to retry saving until you get the right size.

Warn before converting document
When opening an indesign document created in older version, on a newer indesign version, the newer version MUST post a warning dialogue box before converting the document.
BECAUSE if a designer works for two different client, where a client wants indesign version X, why the other client wants indesign version Y, then the designser should not by mistake convert the older version into a newer version, and not discovering this mistake only after its too late.

Form Field Export Tags
Form fields tags aren't exporting properly for tagged pdfs in the newest Indesign (13.0.1). The tags won't show up in the file therefore not allowing the pdfs to pass the accessibility checker. The only work around I'm finding is to re-install the 2017 CC, save the files out as an idml and reopen and export from there. There are no issues when exporting as tagged pdf from the 2017 CC.

Add comments from InDesign to reviewer using Share for Review
It seems like owners of documents can only reply to existing comments made in the Share for Review document but can't create comments in InDesign that appear in the Share for Review document. Often, we have a question about text or images that the reviewer needs to answer, but we have to first Share for Review and then create the comment there. It would be great if we could convert InDesign Notes to comments for the reviewer that they can see in the Share for Review side panel.

Create native paths from imported vector
Convert (simple) imported Illustrator files to native InDesign paths.
This makes it easy to e.g. convert a logo and make the InDesign document independent of an external graphic.
(See how After Effects has a function 'Create Shapes from Vector Layer'. https://helpx.adobe.com/nl/after-effects/how-to/convert-illustrator-layers-to-shape-layers.html)

Implement Chart- and Diagramfunction
Implement a Chart- and Diagramfunction based on a linked XLS.
Reason:
Technical Data for Products is often managed in XLS and Engineers create all kind of charts and diagramms directly in XLS.
Unfortunately it is not possible to import those XLS-charts in InDesign! There are serveral solutions possible, e.g. via PDF, but these are only "dirty-tricks" and they are all not sustainable at all. In the best case the charts and diagramms look ugly.
While it is possible to link/import XLS-Data, it should be possible to create charts and diagrams directly in InDesign, as Illustrator already does (similar, not…20 votes -
Relative paths to external files
My goal is to do all the layout and linking in indesign then do an export to a PDF with hyperlinks. The PDF and all the external linked files will then be distributed to other computers via USB-stick or CD.
The links has to be relative for this to work and I would like to have that option in the hyperlinks pod/panel or when doing a PDF (or HTML export).
I have been waiting 10 years for this feature - I cant understand why it has not been implemented searching the internet. it must be a clear usecase for indesign.4 votes -
PDF comments - Option to remove all resolved comments at once
Option to remove all resolved comments at once. An option to remove all resolved comments in the comment window would be very interesting, because indesign has a performance issue with too much comment.

Black only crops
When printing or exporting to a pdf file for print, can we have an option of black only crop marks. The reason is when we print to our Xerox Igen 4 and there is a mixture of color and black and white pages, the pages with just black text register as color because of the registration colored crop marks and on large runs it can add up to a lot of money. Thank you.

Individual PDFs - prefix page number
Thanks for the new export to individual pages!!! Would it be possible for the page number to be a prefix? My InSite provider wants the page numbers in the front of the file name. Perhaps it could be an option along with suffix?
Otherwise I'm stuck batch renaming all my files before uploading which is just adding another step to make a mistake.
Thanks.

Export to a Word/.doc file
Would like to be able to export a project to Word. Which typically exporting to PDF is fine, there are some clients that require us to send them Word/.doc file. I've been exporting to PDF and from there exporting to Word, but that means much of the formatting is lost.

Import pdf comments - make easier to copy comments, UI improvements
Hi!
Make easier to copy all or part of the comments:
currently the selection cursor doesn't appear until it's very close to the text. Make it appear immediately when it's touching the right or left edge of the comment (not the text edge).
make it more compact for PC screens (not tablets, etc). There's too much empty space and padding which means more scrolling. E.g. 1) Leftmost side is kind of mostly empty, except containing the icon of the commenting user. 2) Page number line only contains page number and could have less padding. 3) Resolve/Accept buttons line only contains…

Enable importing of comments from PDF Review in Document Cloud
Importing of comments from a review being shared via Document Cloud makes perfect sense, this would make a seamless process. The new share for review feature looks great but is too buggy to use at the moment with clients (I have tried)

Help page gives incorrect information regarding PageMaker file conversion
Searched InDesign support for "pagemaker file conversion"
The top article (dated March 2017) is titled "Convert QuarkXPress and PageMaker documents to InDesign". Here's the address of this page: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/converting-quarkxpress-pagemaker-documents.html This article is part of the "InDesign CC User Guide." In the right hand column, it says it applies to InDesign CC. The first sentence in the Pagemaker section is "InDesign can convert document and template files from Adobe PageMaker 6.0 and later." It proceeds to give directions. I have come to find out that these instructions cannot be followed in InDesign CC, but only in InDesign CS6.…3 votes -
Ideas to improve PublishOnline document navigation
I often get reports back from clients and users that 'there is only one page in that online link you sent'. I figure if I get a report back like this, there must be a fair few more who experience this but don't report back...
Viewing a PDF document online via a UI like this is not a common experience for many user types. To improve their experience I propose:
– An option to always show the page thumbnail selector.
– Larger, more prominent page left and right arrows.
– Option to advance through pages on scroll down (or view…15 votes
