  1. Add cell width and heigth to table (or cell) styles

Very often I use tables in multiple pages taht need to have the same dimensions. Being able to do that in Styles would be priceless.

  2. Object Styles for Generated Captions

It would be really helpful when generating captions to be able to assign an object style in addition to a paragraph style. (Even better if there were multiple caption styles to choose from...)

  3. Ability to manipulate illustrator sublayers in Object Layer Options dialogue

It would be great to be able to manipulate (turn on and off) illustrator sublayers in the Object Layer Options dialogue.

I use the adobe suite for urban design mapping and analysis where we work with many layers to describe the complex nature of the city/area we are working in. We are often working with 40+ layers, many of which could be 'grouped' or collected into a single layer, however when placing the same .ai file multiple times in a report, we need to retain the ability to turn layers on or off to suit different data sets. This create…

  4. Implement Chart- and Diagramfunction

Implement a Chart- and Diagramfunction based on a linked XLS.

    Reason:
Technical Data for Products is often managed in XLS and Engineers create all kind of charts and diagramms directly in XLS.
Unfortunately it is not possible to import those XLS-charts in InDesign! There are serveral solutions possible, e.g. via PDF, but these are only "dirty-tricks" and they are all not sustainable at all. In the best case the charts and diagramms look ugly.
While it is possible to link/import XLS-Data, it should be possible to create charts and diagrams directly in InDesign, as Illustrator already does (similar, not nice…

  5. Make gradients faster

    1. Sélect Colors or frame Colors (2 or more if it's possible)
    2. Right clic or using shortcuts
    3. Made the gradient directly in the swatches or in a Group
    4. The gradient is made in order the colors are selected

I think this feature can save time and made easier the way to do gradients

  6. Add image sharpening before output

We should be able to apply sharpening (such as "unsharp masking") to images on the InDesign page.
Currently, the only solution is to place an image, scale it to size in InDesign, and then go back to Photoshop to scale it, resample it (change to proper resolution), and then apply appropriate sharpening… and then go update or re-place it in InDesign. It is very inefficient!
I want InDesign to apply global-sharpening to an image at the proper size, when it outputs to PDF or prints.

  7. Include data merge source file in package

Include the data merge source file(.txt) when packaging a file that hasn’t been merged into a finished indesign file.

  8. Kerning Editor (with individual margin alignment options)

A Kerning Editor would fit nicely into the kerning feature, which allows to choose between optical, metrical kerning. The user would define his own kerning names.
The Kerning Editor has a GUI which allows the user to define his own kerning pairs which override the metrical ones defined in the font's kerning tables. There I can load the metrical kerning or the optical kerning as a start for my individual kerning.
Furthermore the new Kerning Editor has two more tokens/glyphs to kern with: the left and the right margin of a text frame. So the user can define his own…

  9. The hope of developing a new vertical effect of CJk text

(If you only want to read the core content, please go directly to the end of this article)

(This document is designated to be delivered to Adobe Japan)

    ————————

    Dear Adobe Japan:

Thank for your attention and helping. On behalf of my region, I would like to make a request boldly to your company about the new effect of vertical typesetting.

The existing versions of indesign equipped with CJK typesetter and applicable to East Asia have only one text arrangement direction for vertical text arrangement - the first column inherited is on the right, from right to left from ancient…

  10. Would like to be able to apply formatting to text variables

You should be able to somehow apply formatting to text variables. (See screenshot: TextVariable.png). The running header on the right hand page is based on the "chapter title" on the left hand page, but the italics can't be applied. It would be nice if you could apply a GREP style, or even a nested style, to the paragraph style that is applied to running header.

  11. Create Citations and Bibliography automatically

When is @InDesign going to release the feature to create bibliography, citations, and references as in @Microsoft365 (#Word)? We use this software to write scientific papers/books but it looses when it comes to cite and give references to the paper used in our work. Help us! We have to do it the hard way, what wastes a lot of time and we can get lost easily.

  12. Share several separate files as one (using Book feature possibly) in Share for Review

The Share for Review is a fantastic feature.
We publish magazines that are designed in several different files for each section. It would be great if you could combine files and share for review (possibly using the Book feature). Currently the Book features allows you to create a single PDF from several separate files into one.

This option would be great when Sharing for Review instead of creating a PDF.

  13. Add Paragraph Shading & Border to Find/Change

Add (Paragraph Border) and (Paragraph Shading) to Find/Change in (Find Format) & (Change Format), to make search more flexible.
Example: Find shaded string in imported text from word document.

  14. Path elements as Artifact

To create an accessible PDFs it’s essential to either tag relevant content or mark irrrelevant content as Artifact. In InDesign you can use the object export options to mark an object as “Artefact”.

So far so good, however any path elements from tables or underlined/strikethrough text are not marked at all. Obviously, those always need to be marked as an Artifact. InDesign should do this automatically during the pdf export process. Please fix that, it’s extremly time consuming to fix that manually in Acrobat.

  15. Unequal columns within a single text frame

It would be great if we could define different column widths within a single text frame, making the automatization of sidebars in longer documents easier. Currently, we need to set up differently sized text boxes on the page and link them.

  16. Give icons in the Corner Options dialogue their proper orientation

Instead of using the same orientation for each corner option icon in the Corner Options dialogue, give each corner an icon with the proper orientation. See After.png.

  17. Keyboard shortcut for inserting Unicode glyphs

Accessibility and other forms of automated publishing require the correct Unicode glyphs.

These glyphs include punctuation, math/science symbols, foreign language characters, and bullets/symbols. In 2000, Unicode became the default character set worldwide across the technology industries.

But we have no way to easily insert these glyphs into InDesign layouts. For example, if I need the math multiplication symbol rather than a lower case "x", I need to either scroll through the glyph dialogue box, or know beforehand the symbol's codepoint 2715 and type it into the Unicode field in the glyph dialogue box.

Too slow! Especially when you have to…

  18. Blurring part or full of an image for better readability

for some cowed images that we have to use it needs to blur some part of an image and for that we need to go to in photoshop and blur that image and come back to InDesign
why you not adding an option into blurring part an image or whole of it

  19. PDF Comments in InDesign (Make Icons Smaller or Transparent)

We love the new feature for importing pdf comments into InDesign! The only problem is that the comment icons are so large that I can't see the type underneath to make the edit. I have to delete the comment and then try to remember the edit and figure out exactly where it goes. Could you make the icons smaller or transparent (or perhaps allow us to make these adjustments with "PDF Comments Options")? Thanks!

  20. External Paragraph Styles (to keep all documents in sync easily)

I would like to have external paragraph styles (and other styles too) so that they can apply to multiple documents and keep all documents using them in sync with the same set of styles.
