  1. Calendar & layout

I have noticed that whenever I try to create a calendar in InDesign there is not a practical way to place the day and month automatically.
For example, the software allowed me to place the number in order form one to 31 but I cannot place the date automatically, like Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and so on.
I wish this indesign engineers can figure out a way you can add Recurring date and month autumnally. Just like the number I know that I can make a master page and the numbers can appear in order I want the software to…

  2. Auto convert heavy Ai + Pdf files so InDesign don't die on export...

Working with a lot of designers they often place very complicated and vector heavy patterens in indesign. (Ai+PDF format)

Indesign eats all - no problem.

Then the time comes and indesign need to make a PDF file, and it just dies!

I can now spend hour finding that one or more pattern with a gazillion points...

Why dont indesign say, --- > Hey! Stop! If you place this file you will not be able to make a PDF file, and i will likely crash and burn...

And then InDesign converts the file, on the fly.. And places the new file…

  4. GPU acceleration in Windows PC

Hi! Why does GPU acceleration in InDesign only work on MAC? I have an extremely powerful Windows PC with next-generation Nvidia Quadro video card, and you just forgot about Windows PC users. Can't do like Ilustrator? Can't use GPU processing intelligence in InDesign? I work with huge two- and one-column footnote files with lots of AI and PSD images. But the lack of GPU acceleration is frustrating. Thank you!

  5. A facility to tell what settings are 'inherited' from another style

I think it would be beneficial to be able to quickly identify which properties in a cell style etc. inherit from a parent style.

If you look at my child.png , it is "Based On" parent.png. However, you can't see in the child what settings have been "learned" from the parent. It would be nice if the inherited characteristics appear with a light grey background or a little star or something suitable to distinguish them from the edits that are child-specific.

In my case, how this situation caused minor confusion is that I had "no idea" why the background fill…

  6. Have ruler bar be on the right, too, to drag out guides when zoomed in on right side of doc etc.

To prevent having to zoom out and/or change position in a document when trying to precisely visually align a guide

  7. Make guides work outside of the page like Illustrator

Self explanatory really - Make guides work outside of the page like Illustrator, so you can lay things out on the pasteboard accurately before you put it on your document.

  8. Import a multipage PDF into existing graphic frames

I need to be able to set up a document with graphic frames, then import a multipage PDF using a script which places each page into each frame. When the script encounters a page not containing a frame, it will miss it out and place into the next available frame.

  9. iXBRL tagging - annual reports - ESEF reporting

New regulations in Europe means that from 2020 all financial reports must be produced with XBRL tagging. InDesign is the single most used layout software for producing annual reports, but will be useless for the purpose without a solution for tagging.

Are you working on a solution to this considerable challenge?

  11. non-contigious text selections

I'm absolutely amazed that a product (inDesign) with the power to do everything from making a cup of coffee to managing the invasion of a small African republic does not provide a user with the ability to select non-contigious text. Given the value of this as a feature, I can only assume that it has been requested many times over but that Adobe has deemed it not important enough to warrant inclusion. Surely it is a rather simple coding exercise to include this.

I write books using inDesign and I waste many hours selecting different text items and making the…

  12. Predetermine Adobe .pdf settings for Publish Online Documents

I post interactive documents in a double page spread with Publish Online, but when it is downloaded, all the interactivity is stripped out and it downloads as single pages. What is the point of posting an interactive document in a spread format if you can't download it, as an interactive document in spread format!

I would like to be able to predetermine the .pdf download options before publishing online ie double page spread with (cover page) and choose the interactive elements to be included. That way when they press download .pdf it is downloaded with all the interactivity and in…

  13. Frame Fitting Panel

Fairly self explanatory. Frame fitting options are one of the only frequently used features that don't have their own panel, which can cause UX issues for various reasons. Solution, give them a panel.
    Thanks

  15. Colouring and user-order of font menu

User customized font menu. Colours and the ability to order the fonts exactly how you want. . This makes it so easy to slide to the part of the menu to grab a font you know. This was done in the 1990's by Now Utilities on OS7, 8 and 9. Bring it on!!! It was SO fast to find your fonts. I had blue for Serif, red for San Serif, green for Script and so on. Colour coding is great for many features.

  16. 1. Warping fonts easily like Aldus Typetwister or Typstyler. Preset by user for easy re-use. 2. Valuable for better design.

Adobe already owns Typetwister when it bought Aldus. Just incorporate it into InDesign. Welcome back to 1990.

  18. Restore access to "Screen Mode" and "View Options" menus somewhere on the workspace

In Indesign 2020 the "Screen Mode" and "View Options" menus have been removed from the Application Bar. I frequently toggle back and forth between "normal" mode and "preview" mode and I don't want the extra step of having to go to the "View" menu to do this. I also like to be able to quickly turn frames on and off (View Options). Is there a way to have these menus added back onto the workspace somewhere? Thanks!

  20. Problem with Paragraph Borders across the page (with same paragraph style)

In the "Paragraph Borders" we need an option that allows you to determine whether or not to leave the "paragraph border" at the bottom of the page. When using the same paragraph style (to simulate a table) often the client requires that the border at the bottom (or top) of the page are not visible, to indicate continuity (as happens now in the case in which the same paragraph is divided between the two pages).

    Operating system: "catalina 10.15.1".
    InDesign: version 15.0.1.
