  1. A folder system in Publish Online

Increasingly online publishing needs a home. Adobe offers this, although I came to this quite late. It is a mess when you have dozens of docs.

  2. Open PDF

I want the ability to open an Adobe PDF in Adobe InDesign. The ability to have a pdf file that I can right click and go to Open With -> Adobe InDesign would save so much time at my job in the print industry. It takes forever to take 1,500 pages of a PDF document and individually place them in an InDesign file just so I can use a master page to overlay a bad logo that a client used. If they could just automatically open just as though I did the whole document by hand it would be a…

  3. Update links in ALL open documents

When working with multiple open documents, usually with similar or same assets) it would be great if Indesign could update that assets across all open documents in the same action.

Often, I need to switch between the source application, eg. Illustrator. and change an asset effecting several similar documents that are open. Would it be wonderful to update that same asset when you switch back to the active Indesign session with multiple files/tabes open. Instead, we need to select file by file and update the same assets in each instance.

    :-)

  4. Why doesn't ID have a blur filter?

My suggestion for ID is it should have a blur filter along with all the other filters available. it seems it has everything but blur. I use the gradient blur filter all the time for layouts and it's a time saver, so I would love a gaussian blur to also be there so I don't have to go back and forth from ID and PSD.

  5. Support variable fonts without STAT.AxisValue format 2

When a variable font has one file for Roman and another one for Italic, the VF sliders only work if the STAT.AxisValue is in format 2.

STAT.AxisValue format 1 or 3 works in Illustrator 2020 and also in Photoshop 2020 if the font has a nameID 25 and postscriptNameID attributes for fvar.NamedInstance (a bit weird since Illustrator is fine without that).

If the files have only nameID 25 and postscriptNameID but the various STAT.AxisValue aren't in format 2, the named instances work in InDesign, but not the sliders: you can't choose an arbitrary value reliably.

    Adobe obviously likes to make…

  6. Ability to print and/or download proofs

I have some clients that like to print hard copies of their proofs. Before the 'Share for Review" feature, it was a lot of pdf's making made and uploaded, which tended to crash my InDesign, so I do enjoy not having to create so many, and having one link throughout the process.
However, there is no option for the client to download a pdf or to print the pages directly from the proof... so then I'm back to making pdf's again. That is the only thing so far my clients seem unhappy about with the new proofing system, is the…

  9. Custom Columns

When setting up margins and layout it would be great if the user could customize the width of individual columns. For instance I start a new document that's 8.5 x 11 with 2 columns and a gutter that's .25. At some point, either the initial document creation or after, it would be amazing to change the width of one of the columns and in so doing it adjust the width of the other column while keeping the gutter the same. This would help for much more dynamic, asymmetrical and feel visually more organized than simply bringing in rulers. Horizontal rows…

  10. Would like to be able to share a pdf (for proofing/approval) straight out of InDesign. Exceeding valuable as it skips steps.

In the busy print workflow environment it would be nice to skip steps when providing clients with proofs for review/approval. Creating and sending a pdf proof to clients straight out of InDesign would be just the thing. Currently, as you know, you export the InDesign document as a pdf, open it up in Acrobat and share the file for review. While the Acrobat function is fine (although we've noticed lag time in clients receiving the proof) in the face-pace environment of a printshop, where many of these proofs are processed, it would be a time saver.

  11. Keyboard command for resizing content within a picture box

Quark allows one to resize an image within a picture box using key commands. Could this key command please be added to ID. It's wonderful: To resize a picture in 5% increments using keyboard shortcuts, press Command+Option+Shift+> (Mac OS) or Ctrl+Alt+Shift+> (Windows). To enlarge, and Command+Option+Shift+< (Mac OS) or Ctrl+Alt+Shift+< (Windows) to reduce.

  12. Searchable text

I would also like a feature i.e. text of indd files should be searchable without opening the indd file, and using its find and replace dialog box. i have hundereds of indd txt files. and everytime i need to search some thing in my indd files, so i have to open all the files and use the dialog box,
is there any option to do this without opening the indd file. like the search panel in finder, it finds in pdf, word, excel docs,

  13. XML structures and footnotes/endnotes

This is a point which was subject of lot of discussion since years in several forums. Even this uservoice mentions it (partly) sometime but obviously it hasn't been considered at all.
In InDesign, a footnote can't contain xml structures.
In InDesign, it is not possible to map an xml element to the footnote object.
    This is really weird, since:
    a) mapping XML element to an InDesign object is something exiting already for tables thanks to attribute aid:table. So why not having set an attribute aid:note, with values "footnote" and "endnote" and implementing this?
    b) footnotes and endnotes can contain by…

  14. Use Opt-click for "update all cross references"

In the links panel, opt-click on the update button updates all changed links. It also has a tool tip for doing so. I have been told opt-click is a 'standard' in many Adobe apps. But "update all cross references" is not so easily found. It requires to make sure no cross reference is selected and then click the update button. This is not intuitive and hard to find. Change to opt-click (with tooltip). Check for any other place that an update button exist and unify the UI in the same manner.

  15. CMD/SHIFT scroll speed and direction shortcuts are now broken

It used to be that holding SHIFT and using the mouse wheel increased the scroll speed, and holding CMD changed scroll direction.

Now, holding SHIFT increases scroll speed direction AND changes scroll direction, while CMD still changes the scroll speed.

This means that, previous to the update, if you were scrolling veritcally down your document, you'd scroll normally, and could then hold shift to increase the speed. Whereas now, if you want to increase the scroll speed without changing direction you have to hold CMD as well.

IE - Previously used to work like this:

    Scroll Wheel = Vertical Scroll…

  16. footnote/endnote styles

Ability to define footnote/endnote styles (as opposed to the formatting styles contained within the the footnote/endnote definition) and synchronize these across the book documents. Would save a lot of time in books with many documents.

  17. quad center

    Quad centre
    E.g.
left aligned text centre aligned text right aligned text

    Presently, you can do:
left aligned text right aligned text
but not centered text in the middle

There are various work-arounds to do this now but all are clumsy.
WordPerfect has done this for at least 35 years.

  18. addition of style override menu option

Please provide a menu option to override a style. Going to and from the associated style menu is time consuming and and would be easier if I could at least use keyboard navigation to access a menu option under the type, object or table menu headings to activate it.

  19. Go to Page (book-aware version of command)

The Go to Page command only works within a document. The Go to Page in Book command would open up the requested page in the Book file, regardless of whether the document were open at the time or not.

This is a valuable command because when editing long books with many chapters, it is useful to go directly to a page to make a change. It saves having to take your hand off the keyboard to the mouse, open the possibly closed Book panel, find the file that is in the page range, double-click it to open it, and then…
