2. Add "Page" to the "Search in:" options, for both Find/Change and Spell Check

   In Find/Change and Spell Check dialogs, we have ability to search within a [Story] [To end of story] [Selection] or [Document]. I would like to see [Current Page] added that options list. Even better would be the ability to specify a [Page Range XX-XX]

   [Story] is too specific when we have a bunch of separate text boxes to search through. And [Document] is often way too broad for large documents, and it also searches master pages that we may not wish to search. [Current Page] or [Page Range] would be a really nice middle-ground for both regular Find/Changes and Spell Check.

3. Object Styles for Generated Captions

   It would be really helpful when generating captions to be able to assign an object style in addition to a paragraph style. (Even better if there were multiple caption styles to choose from...)

4. InDesign Templates and Style updates

   I start by making an InDesign template and incorporating all the object and paragraph styles I think I'll need. Then from my template I create my first document. However, as I proceed with actual content on that document I find I want to modify some styles, add new ones, etc.

   There does not seem to be a way to have my template updated automatically with those style changes/additions. This would be a great help because my template is no longer usable as an "old version". So, I have to save my new document onto and replace that older template (without style changes), then delete all the content so it just has the new styles.

   Can't we have a way to automatically update the template our document is based on?

5. Desaturate-filter / Black&White adjustment-layer on photos/graphics

   A simple and proper way to desaturate photos/graphics to greyscale using pure black.

   Also, a Black&White adjustment-layer on photos/graphics to output greyscale using rich black.

6. The option to remember PDF export settings on a document by document basis

   Currently InDesign remembers the PDF export settings across the program which is good but we have to export either print or interactive based on the file. It would be really useful to have the document itself remember the settings so we don't have to keep changing back - often forgetting and sending clients print PDFs where they should be interactive.

7. Add option to center Document Grid on page (instead of aligned left)

   Please add an option to center the Document Grid to the middle of the page. That is, instead of the origin of the grid being placed at the top left of the document, have an option to place the grid origin at the top center of the page. This way, extra space that "overflows" the grid is evenly distributed at the edges of the document (as a kind of default gutter), instead of the current behavior, in which the grid is aligned to the left edge of the document and any "overflow" space is only on the right side of the document.

   This is desirable when you want keep a certain leading between lines and create a grid based on that leading without having to adjust the leading to create a grid that perfectly fits the outer dimensions of the document.

8. Export as TIFF

   Some applications often request TIFF files. Especially, when the file size exceeds PDF dimensions. The work around of export to a PDF and then to a TIFF does not work in these situations.

9. Add an import options dialogue for importing InCopy documents into InDesign

   Just like when importing Word documents, you can select what stylesheets and attributes to bring into the InDesign or InCopy document, add the same options dialogue window when importing InCopy documents into InDesign. Oftentimes the writer of the InCopy story doesn't use the same stylesheets as the InDesign document. In my case, I build newspapers and we are constantly improving the design and simplifying the naming process for stylesheets. The reporters forget to use the template and therefore old styles or misnamed styles get brought into the document. There are ways around this of course, but when I need to import 50-80 stories and format them within 4 hours, it's a pain.

10. Library panel: Pop-up preview on focus

    Thumbnails, even large thumbnails, in the Library panel are often not enough to know which object I’m looking at. I often have a lot of similar items in one library. How about a preview that appears when the mouse hovers over a library item? It would work like tool tips.

    While I’m on the subject, how about letting us name items in the panel instead of requiring a dialogue? Most panel work this way.

12. Add cell width and heigth to table (or cell) styles

    Very often I use tables in multiple pages taht need to have the same dimensions. Being able to do that in Styles would be priceless.

13. Scaleable exporting PDF

    For many 'big print' applications, you need to upload your design in 100% off the format. But, in many cases, your design is made in 1:10 scale for better cross design, workflow and speed of Indesign.

    It would be nice to 'export' your file in a scale. So that your Indesign doc remains the 1:10 scale (or else) and your PDF can easily be twice or ten times bigger. This is very handy for roll-up banner, screens, walls etc. You can say that Indesign should not be the right application for big print. But if i want that the brochure, wall and roll-up banners are exactly the 'same' in all its design, this should be very nice.

14. Data Merge > Create Tagged PDF checkbox

    On Data Marge > Export to PDF just let us select the "Create Tagged PDF".

    For example, I have 1300 records, an 8 page document template and have to export 1300x 8pp uniquely named PDF files - files names from data.

    Currently have to:
    1. run the merge in groups of 100 records otherwise InDesign will hang
    2. create tagged PDFs from the 13x 800pp InDesign files (50 minutes per 100)
    3. combine PDFs
    4. create bookmarks from content
    5. split by bookmark structure

    Points 1, 2 and 3 could be combined by simply allowing "Create Tagged PDF" and save two days work as Data Merge > Export to PDF takes 20 minutes to export ALL the records without hanging.

    On Data Marge > Export to PDF just let us select the "Create Tagged PDF".

15. Allow the paragraph shading to 'knock out' paragraph border in some way for more usefullness

    If I specify a border & use just the 'top' as a horizontal rule with the idea to have it appear only on either side of a line of text, there isn't an option to do that or for the shading to knock-out the 'border' or have one in front of the other so it would be handy to be able to specify that one is on top of the other & the option to knock it out or a gap size. I've achieved the desired effect in the 2nd image with a white stroke but that doesn't work well if there is a 2nd line of text - as it starts to white out the top line & then you can't get enough of a gap between the first & last words on that line.

16. Ruler guide color should be an inline feature in the tool panel

    Changing ruler guide colors requires too many steps (Layout > Ruler Guides > Change color > Ok). When a guide is selected, guide color should be (also) configurable in the tool panel. This would make it feel a lot more 'instant'.

17. Add a feature that allows you to predefine paragraph style spacing based on which style comes before or after it

    I have set up some paragraph styles in my InDesign document that have space-before and space-after set on them. Some of the styles are for headers. When the headers precede a regular paragraph, I want the space to be there, but when they precede another header, I want there to be less space. In web development, I can write rules in CSS that say things like this:

    p { margin-top:10px; }
    h2 + p { margin-top:5px }

    I am able to make the margin-top narrower on a <p> tag that is immediately preceded by an <h2> tag, but otherwise, it's wider.

    I’m looking for a mechanism to do something similar in InDesign so that if my heading level 2 paragraph style is before another heading paragraph style, it has less space-after than when it is before a regular paragraph. It would be really great if Adobe could add a feature that allows you to define a paragraph style spacing based on which style comes before or after it.

18. InDesign CC needs an easy plug in to export to MOBI file for Kindle readers like there was in past versions.

    Past versions of InDesign had option to a third party plugin (KindlePluginForAdobeInDesign) that doesn't work with CC. This plugin was very useful in creating MOBI files from book layouts done in InDesign. Going from EPUB to MOBI doesn't seem to work. Please include this plugin for InDesign CC and make book designer lives easier.

19. Allow footnotes to renumber in same document

    When importing a Word document with footnotes or endnotes that are continuous, add feature to begin renumbering footnotes from 1 for each chapter or section. It does not work in the current versions of InDesign CC even with the preferences set to renumber with each new section when the text file is linked from section to section.

20. Update the analytics feature on the Publish Online Dashboard so you can see all the individual analytics for each document

    Currently on the overview you can see many analytics for all your documents combined, but on the document trends screen, only views and readers are available. It would be helpful to offer our clients more specific analytics.
