When creating a QR Code in InDesign, Allow User to select VCARD Version
We are having issues with the QR Code generator due to its 2.1 version of the VCARD. Not all readers and phones interpret that correctly, resulting in parsing errors depending on the scanner software used. It would be useful to allow the user to select which VCARD standard they want to use, such as VCARD 2.1, 3.0, 4.0, etc. This will create the metadata to be compatible with more current versions of scanning software. Not sure if version 2.1 is deprecated, but it's not always supported anymore (e.g. RedLaser, etc) causing parsing issues on the address line with iOS as…

If a graphic file is added to the CC Libraries the default name should be the file name
If I add the file with the name companyX-logotype.jpg to a CC Library it gets the name "Bildmaterial1" (in German – must be something like "image1" in English).
It would be great if the given name would be "companyX-logotype.jpg" instead.

CMYK to RGB export should always translate 100K to RGB 0,0,0
As per the title, when working with a CMYK document with 100K blacks, when exporting to RGB, these should always get translated to RGB 0,0,0 - regardless of what Printing/Exporting setting is used in the Appearance of Black preference menu.
Right now, when exporting a CMYK document to RGB (regardless of whether you use PDF, PNG or JPG), if your Appearance to Black Print/Export setting is set to "Output All Blacks Accurately", you will end up with incorrect black levels. What really should be RGB 0,0,0 ends up being RGB 35,31,32 or so. This is true even when working with…

Height & width in object styles needs more options
I did try out the new H&W feature in CC2018 using it on a image frame with a picture inside it. I anchored it to the heading of each chapter and wanted to see if I could resize the image from the object style panel. This did not work the way I was hoping for; There is no way to lock the H&W proportions so that the frame fits the image dimensions. I could not determine a reference point from where the frame is growing. A great upgrade to the feature would be: Lock proportions, scale content with the frame…

Find all except this Paragraph or Character Style
Add an option in (Find Format) tab of Find/Change window, We can exclude one or more style from search. For instance, find question mark in all styles, except (Body Copy Style).
Instead of repeating the query for each style.32 votes -
Smart hyphenation
A great feature would be if InDesign could add hyphenation rules automatically when when using discretionary hyphens. A pop-up window that asks if you want this word to hyphenate on every instance of the word where you insert the hyphen the first time. I find it a bit too tedious to make new H-rules for every word. This is very relevant for non-english languages where the the pre-defined H-rules isn't very good. There is probably better ways to to this, but I think its time InDesign's hyphenation feature get a little bit smarter.

Long text authoring experience
InDesign is usually employed in post-production, after the auther had finished writing a book, a screenwriter his script. You could make inDesign the tool of choice for writers, thanks to its wonderful authoring experience. Enhanced long document editor. This opens the market for independent publishers and authors to make their creation end-to-end, from inception to finish

Export the complete Text
To make the text contents of a document available for other users or applications one should be able to export the whole text (meaning every piece of text in the whole document. To a single text file (rtf or txt). Currently I am able to this with a plugin
(https://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/text-exporter/) but I feel this should be within the scope of the program itself.19 votes -
Backup the user-defined Document Presets in a different file than Preferences
At the moment, if a user creates several "New Document" Presets in the "New Document" window, they will be deleted if the User has to reset their InDesign preferences.
It would make more sense if the hard work that is put into creating New Document Presets was saved in a different system file (or clouded) so that
1-they don't get lost if resetting InDesign Preferences and
2-the Presets could be shared with other team members easily6 votes -
A Home Page for Publish Online Documents
Allow us to assign uploaded documents to a home page that would display several at once. And allow us to give it a human-readable address. That'd make linking to these documents easier.

Add Endnote Support for InCopy
Please add endnote support for Adobe InCopy. Without it, InCopy sadly is pretty much useless.
InDesign Footnotes are too inflexible and working with manual Footnotes is not really feasible in larger documents.9 votesEndnote support was added to InCopy in version 2020.

Simultaneous Sharing
You should allow multiple people to work on a document simultaneously. Google docs & slides allows this with a share option, and it is free.

Update links automatically
Currently, when I want to update an image link that has moved, I copy the name of the image to be linked, then "update link" and paste the name of the link in the search field to find all instances on my system. This should be automatized with a function like "search and update" that allows you to then choose which version of the link you'd like (in case of duplicate names). As far as I know this doesn't exist yet.

Footnote numbering options for EPUB export
When exporting a single story into EPUB (2 or 3), the footnotes are numbered from 1 to x over all xhtml files with no chance to control their numbering. The footnote numbering options from within InDesign (per page, per section, etc.) should be respected while exporting.
Alternatively there should be some appropriate options in the export panel.

Publish Online: comment mode
It should be possible to comment on specific parts of the page. Like in www.invisionapp.com So it could be possible to discuss an artwork with my client. Like I'm doing with PDF-comments at the moment. But in this case I could reply and discuss more. (show more than one versions of one page would be excellent!)

Multiple footnote groups/storys on one story.
It would be very useful if it is possible to have 2 [or more] footnote groups on 1 story.
For example, I have a main text, then there are 2 commentary texts, that both are linked with numbers [like footnotes] to the main text; & they are separately numbered & in separate frames.
Would be amazing!!!

Window decorators make moving the window difficult when smaller
When the window is small (eg half of my screen), the window decorators make it very difficult to move the window. In particular, the name of the program ("Adobe InDesign CC 2018") is inactive, but somehow I still can't grab the window there. It gets very frustrating to manage my screen, especially when I need several programs open.

Make the Keybaord shortcuts consistent across InDesign, Illlustrator and Photoshop
Plz make the keybaord shortcuts consistent across InDesign, Illlustrator and Photoshop.
For common operations, the shorcuts are different across 3 apps.
15 votesIn the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, user can choose [Adobe Illustrator Shortcuts] or [Adobe Photoshop Shortcuts] to change InDesign’s shortcuts to match those of Illustrator and Photoshop respectively.
This was implemented in InDesign CC 2018.

Microsoft Office Compatibility
Documentation, documents and colors in Microsoft Word document come in differently.
It would be much better for us to work more with Office programs.
Please fix it.
