New object remembers previous object's settings
In Illustrator, if you draw an (for example) orange rectangle with a 5pt outline, the next object you draw will have the same settings. How do I do this in Indesign? Each new object I draw in Insdesign defaults to the same basic setting, and does not remember what I previously drew. Your Support people tell me this is not possible. Please add this feature to a new release, as the default. (And, yes, I know about styles, that's too long-winded as I might just need to draw a dozen orange boxes once).

Non-uniform spacing AND rounded corners
I would love to be able to set the inset spacing of top, bottom, left and right independent of one another in a text box that has rounded corners. My current work around is to have multiple boxes-one with a rounded corner and another with text. If it were all apart of one box, it would make my workflow faster and all of the boxes would be uniform and easier to make changes to.

Numbered paragraphs don't increment in footnotes
Version of Adobe InDesign, InCopy or InDesign Server
14.0.1.209
Mac OS 10.13.6Steps to reproduce the issues
1. Apply automatic numbering to a paragraph style
2. Apply that style to footnotesExpected result
Each footnote will be properly numbered, starting at 1.Actual result
All footnotes are numbered 1.In the attached screenshot you can see the third footnote. The indicator is the correct number but the footnote is numbered 1, even though it is the third footnote. Footnote 2 is also numbered 1.

Story editor fonts
Many font families cannot be used, at least not to their full, in the story editor—despite the font family clearly having italic, bold and bold italic faces available. This limitation includes many fonts available through Adobe Fonts (formerly Typekit) as well as a great many non-Adobe fonts.
As best I can tell the limitation is due to these fonts not having the macStyle bits for italic and bold being set appropriately in the font itself.
What I envision is for the story editor preferences to have a way to separately specify the fonts to use for regular, italic, bold and…

remove image from links panel
In the Links Panel, it would be very handy to remove an image that is listed simply by right clicking on it and removing it.
For example, I just manually removed over 500 images from image frames using the direct select tool. Theoretically, I could have selected those 500 images in the Links Panel, and removed them in the right click menu.

Story editor maximum line width
It would be great to have a maximum line width, perhaps a maximum number of characters per line, for the story editor (in both InDesign and InCopy).
This is most useful when writing when the story editor is docked on a large monitor. It seems to be best for readability to work with lines of 64 to 80 characters, and at the moment the text simply flows to the entire width of the window.
The current behaviour could be available by setting the maximum number of characters per line to 0, for example. Also, I envision that if there is…

Need to convert PDF back into InDesign and Not lose any detail.
So I lost the original file to my InDesign program. There needs to be a back up and easier way to convert a PDF back into InDesign without losing any detail. Like you never lost the file to begin with.
My portfolio and work is on there and would like to add new work in my portfolio.

Syncing Workspaces and Preferences
This use to be here but doesnt seem to be around anymore. When I would access Indesign on another computer using the same account info, my workspace and preferences would always carry over. In the last year or so, this doesnt happen anymore and I cant figure out why. I cant find an answer online about it either so my guess is that it was removed. Can you bring this back? Thanks!

Can we PLEASE have a better way to manage saved search queries?
I'm a very heavy user of InDesign's ability to save specific search-and-replace queries, especially for GREP. But every single time you folks do a major update to InDesign, my custom saved search-and-replace queries (GREP, Text, Glyph, Object) go away. I've taken to backing up the .xml files with my backup software and manually restoring them after each program update, but something has changed in the last version, and simply restoring them to the applicable folders no longer restores them to the program Find dialog listing. I've got more than thirty mission-critical GREP queries alone. Re-writing them from scratch each major…

Control over sorting order of Library assets
It would be very helpful to have control over arranging the order of assets in InDesign library. It would also be great to create folders within the library to group assets.

Make OpenType SVG composed glyphs unbreakable
For now combined glyphs can be accidentally broken if they reach end of line.
For example, I add composed glyph 0x261d + 0x1f3fe (☝🏾) It is up pointing hand with skin tone modifier.
Applied EmojiOne font.
Now i start added dots before is (.........). When glyph reach end of text field, he will be PARTIALLY moved to next line. This moment it will be broken.
I understand why it happens, but this is unexpected behavior.
I think there should be an option in paragraph or character style, that makes glyphs unbreakable.

Defining a Drop Cap
If you define a Drop Cap in a paragraph style WITH a character style and also define a nested style, if there is a single letter word starting the paragraph, the nested style does not recognize it and will apply the nested style to an additional word beyond the deliminator. For example, a nested style through 3 words will apply to the first 4 if the paragraph starts with "I[space]" or "A[space]". It does not do this if [none] is chosen from the character style dropdown in Drop Caps, but only if one is chosen (even when nothing is defined…

Thanks for reporting this issue.
However this behaviour seems to prevail since quite a long time.I have marked it NeedsReview for consideration in the coming versions of InDesign.

Table Cell Background Image
It would be really helpful if we could use an image as a background inside a table cell.
Or even just improve the ability to insert an image directly into a table cell, making the actual cell boundary function as the graphic frame.
Currently we can only paste a graphic frame into a cell as an anchored object, which is very cumbersome to align and position with all the levels of nesting involved.
