'Paste Attributes' - just like in Premiere Pro
If I have a couple of images placed on a page, if I want to match the attributes (eg. reference point, x offset, width, rotation angle, etc.) of picture B with picture A, I have to either manually remember (or copy) enter each of picture A's number and enter it into picture B's attributes, or use a script such as Equalizer.
It would be fantastic to have something just like Premiere Pro's Paste Attributes. Using this, I could select picture A, do Edit>Copy, then select picture B, do Edit>Paste Attributes... and a dialog box would pop up asking which attributes…

Be Able To Apply Color to Text And Object Style Definitions and Sort Them By Color
I work with a large number of paragraph, character and object styles. Even though I can order them alphabetically, it's still tedious to find the right style since the panel is so small. Grouping them is another option but I find it just adds another level in the hierarchy and adds to the already crowded assortment of styles.
It would be nice if I could assign a color to 1 or more style definitions and also be able to Sort By Color.1 vote -
Add an option to hide Text via caracter format setting
Add a checkbox to the character format settings that allows users to hide text. In some situations it is very useful to use grep rules to hide certain text elements. Until now, the color of the font had to be removed and had to set the size to 0.1.

text reflow
When a document is really long (say 1000 pages) any new page break earlier in the document makes the document slow down as it clunks through the rest of the document. Is there a way to temporarily halt document reflows?

Convert links to resolution
Convert a copy of selected links to 300 dpi (or any chosen resolution).
Including upscaling or downscaling.
Alos available on packagingThis would be helpful especially when supplied images are way too big, or some images are fine though a bit low res and need to be upscaled for print.

Endnotes--better coordination Word to InDesign
In the newer versions of ID, they very helpfully allow endnotes to be linked to the numbers in the text (so that, if you delete the number, the note itself is also deleted, and all renumber accordingly). However, when you import/place a Word file of text that has endnotes, the endnotes get placed into a separate text box, and it is obnoxious. I want to put the endnotes in the same text flow as everything else, but you can’t copy and paste because the notes are linked, and the numbers will get deleted from the text if you try to…

QR Code
I think it would be great if the QR codes that are generated can be actually tracked. The number of users, where it was scanned, etc. Basically, Google Analytics but only for QR codes.
It would make things a great deal easier instead of setting up Google Analytics to track this information.11 votes -
Remove Story panel, make optical alignment a paragraph attribute.
The Story panel has only one option, optical alignment, and it is badly implemented. It applies to an entire story across multiple text frames, columns, and pages, and has one value for point size regardless of the point size of the various styles used throughout the story.
Instead, make optical alignment and hanging punctuation two paragraph attributes. Allow the point size to be left black, forcing InDesign to apply the current size for each paragraph.

Allow to export interactive PDF with CMYK colorspace, or allow to include interactive elements into printable PDF
This feature is highly needed. And after all, it makes no sense: PDF format supports both interactive forms and CMYK tagged graphics, but for some reason it's impossible to combine PDF text boxes with CMYK graphics.
My current project, for example, needs a batch of interactive documents in which worker must fill necessary fields every day AND then print few thousands of copies. This operation must be performed manually and frequently.
And instead of creating single PDF with text box I'm forced to recreate required PDF with necessary data. It's illogical and meaningless.15 votes -
Keep non printing elements visible on screen
A lot of documents I create, are for both printing and onscreen publishing (.pdf). In the .pdf's, I like to add a divider to spreads, to make clear that two pages are show. When setting the 'Non Printing' Attribute for this divider, it dissappears on screen. Maybe ther should be an 'Invisible' check box for that, and a 'Non Printing' option for objects that are visible, but do not print.

Build a better interface between Excel and InDesign
I publish a magazine monthly. Every month I must identify the changes, update the head shots, and the hyperlinks back to the original page. The files all start in Excel, then export to Word, then move to InDesign tables.
If we could bring the updates (Head shots, hyperlinks, and text) into an ID table, this would saves us hours of work every month. That would pay for the CC License.

Save workspaces
I just got a new machine and have no access to my previous saved workspaces. Seems like a pretty basic feature to have, and a timesaving one.

allow pasting from left page to right page in master- exactly the same location
Every time I make a new document- my masters can be complex but the left and right side of the same master are a pain to make exactly the same.
So either make copy and paste work better in masters or add a feature that allows left and right sides to be lined up the same.
I want to be able to set all my parts and then set guides on the left side—
and then copy them ALL- guides, date, page numbers, doc name and other items to EXACTLY paste in the right hand side.

Object styles to include layer allocation
E.g.. Text frame (object style) can be then assigned to text layer and moved accordingly.
It would work well for images/charts, etc for long docs such as Annual Reports, etc
Would be a good organisational tool to keep text layers above image/graphics that can cause issues.5 votes -
Ability to search for cell format
I want to be able to search for a cell styles in the same way I can search for a colour or text style. I like a tidy document and want to ensure that only the cell styles I want are used. Sometimes there are hangovers from old files and it is impossible to search for that cell style name.

Floating Paragraph Rules Panel
A floating/dockable paragraph rules panel would be helpful when having to change a file with multiple paragraph rules applied manually and not in a style. As it is now I have to select each instance and open the dialog box and change the rule settings. Also, show both rule above and below at the same time in the dialog box! Thanks!

Variable fonts problem
Please allow Undos (or other mechanism) as part of the new variable fonts UI. It's very frustrating when dragging around sliders to not be able to return to a setting after experimenting with various font iterations. Thanks.

Bullet lists: add option for custom spacing of first and last entries
In a paragraph style defined as a bullet list, you often need to have more space BEFORE THE FIRST item or AFTER THE LAST item. This is possible in CSS and would just need a couple of extra fields added to the "Bullets and Numbering" section in the "Paragraph Style" panel.
The only option now is to create additional styles or to use overrides.
2 votesUse the Indents and Spacing section of the Paragraph Style dialog to specify Space Before and Space After. Use the option “Space Between Paragraphs Using Same Style” to specify the space between the bulleted list items.
For example, if Space Before is 6 pt, Space After is 8 pt, and Space Between is 0 pt, the bulleted list will have 6 pt before the 1st item, 8 pt after the last item and in between the bulleted list items, space will be 0 pt.
Hope this helps.

InDesign to support Multiple User Editing
I am not talking about InCopy or any of its features. At the company I work for, we have to create all of our print documents in PowerPoint because our graphic design team collaborates so heavily with the Sales staff. Because of this, we use PowerPoint's live editing feature to collaborate with filling in content, formatting, and designing. It would be significantly easier and better if there was a multi-user function.

"Remove Frame" option
If you have several items that are grouped together in a frame, it can be difficult to edit them. You have to cut them out of the frame to ungroup them.
