BUG: Word import: Styles
InDesign 19.5 x64 (Win) 2024
When importing Word files wrong styles are applied:
- with no frame selected a style is chosen (p.a. Style-A)
- click in a frame, selected Style is different (p.e. Style-B)
- Word is imported (formatting removed, local overrides kept) -> Text (even if cursor is within text formatted in Style-B) is formatted in Style-A
This is bad p.e. when italics is needed as local override, and the wrong style is italics too (then evereything is italcs ...).

Keyboard shortcuts to resize assets suddenly stop working
InDesign V19.5 on MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1.
Keyboard shortcuts to resize assets on a spread stop working once a document has been open for a while. Shortcuts such as CMD+ALT+Click to resize container box and the asset within, while maintaining proportions, CMD+click to resize container, while maintaining proportions, don't work.
The only fix I've found is to restart my Mac. Closing and reopening InDesign doesn't fix the issue.

"Failed to place PDF" with a PDF file created in Canva
Trying to import a client supplied PDF, created in the paid version of Canva and saved as a CMYK print quality PDF (not flattened). Will not place into InDesign. I've tried various and no import options and it does not work. I have placed this PDF into Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Publisher 2 without issue.

review search
When sharing a review: On the review web page, there is no longer a possibility to search for text. This makes reviewing long documents with many pages nearly impossible. Reviewers have to manually go through all the pages to find the content that's relevant.
Until around mid-2024, it was possible to use the browser's search function (CTRL+F). This has been disabled. Even if enforced (entering search through the browser's menu), it does not work.
To me, having no possibility to search for text in a document that should be reviewed, sounds like a severe, obvious oversight and should be addressed immediately. I only waited a few weeks before posting this here because I thought this had to be a bug that would be fixed anyway.

Bug: mixed open type numbers
If a text is set in a paragraph format using medieval numbers and using character format with versal number for footnotes, sets the number with two digits wrong: the first will be versal, the second medieval (see image).

cross-reference
Bonjour,
Informations :
iMac : iMac (Retina 5K, 27-po, Fin 2015)
Version système: osx 12.7.6
Version de inDesign : 19.5
Nombre de page : texte = 107, lexique = 48, total = 155
Nombre d'entrée du lexique : 164
Nombre de cibles hyperliens : 226
Taille du fichier : 48.8 MoHello,
I am currently working on a long document in which I have integrated a lexicon at the end. I'm using hyperlink targets to display the lexicon entries from the text using cross-reference.
However, the hyperlink targets disappear randomly and frequently. If I try to repair all broken links, I can't complete all the repairs before repaired links are broken again.

"hide closed ideas" doesn't work on UserVoice
- I log into indesign.uservoice.com
- I click on "Adobe InDesign: Bugs"
- I click on "My feedback" This shows 7 issues.
- I click on "hide closed ideas" It changes to say "show closed ideas", but 7 issues are still visible, including two issues which say that they are closed: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/47335865-indesign-2024-starts-with-createobject-indesign https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/44120772-problem-with-optical-margin-alignment-and-world-re
I expect "hide closed ideas" to hide the closed ideas, but they are all still visible.

InCopy: Paragraph Panel Bugs When Placed in Top Menu Area
I’ve noticed an issue with the Paragraph panel when it's placed in the top menu area of InCopy. The Space After option disappears and only becomes visible when the panel is pulled out or moved to the right-side menu.
Additionally, the Drop Cap feature behaves oddly in the top menu. It restricts the character selection to a range of 6-150. However, once the panel is pulled out, I can select 1 character as expected.
Please ensure the Paragraph panel functions consistently in all locations, similar to how it works in InDesign, where I haven’t encountered these issues.
Also, I couldn’t find a dedicated bug forum for InCopy. When I tried to report the bug through InCopy, it redirected me to the InDesign forums instead.

[Variable fonts] Axis committal doesn't stick
When using a variable font, and changing an axis’s value via the text box, it doesn't stick when the menu is Escaped. However, the value does stick when it is escaped if it was committed via slider.
To reproduce:
- Set some text in a text box.
- Open the Character Panel.
- Choose a variable font.
- Go into the variable font value settings via the button to the bottom right.
- Change a value in the text box.
- Hit Enter to commit. (Shouldn't really be necessary and doesn't seem to have effect anyway).
- Hit Escape to get rid of the slider pop-up.
Problem:
Font snaps back to it's original state.Workaround:
Hit Command + Z to undo it to its last committed state, your desired axis value.Repeat the above steps using only sliders, and the problem doesn't occur.
See screen-recording attached.

InDesign 19.5 hangs on startup (ARM Mac, not sure about x86 and Windows)
I've been experiencing this for some time on different Macs with different versions of InDesign. This time round I have a repeatable setup which makes the issue occur consistently. The issue occurs on 'real' machines as well as VMs - it's just that this time I've 'caught' the problem in one of my VMs.
I am using a Mac OS X virtual machine (using Parallels) on an ARM processor (M2 Max, 64GB of memory). In the virtual machine, I've only installed Mac OS X Sequoia, Creative Cloud Desktop, and InDesign 19.5. Everything is as vanilla as it can be.
When I launch InDesign it hangs. I tried a preference reset. No change. I've created a few samples with Activity Monitor, and then did a force quit after about 4 mins, and captured the crash logs from Apple and Adobe.
The issue is repeatable - each launch, InDesign hangs.
When I downgrade to InDesign 19.0, everything works fine - the issue seems to have started somewhere between 19.0 and 19.5
I believe it to be some kind of deadlock - cursory viewing of the crash log seems to have a lot of threads just waiting.
My hunch is that the issue might be related to the activation logic - my internet connection is sometimes slow, and I have a feeling there might be some deadlock situation when the connection is too slow, and something internally gives up waiting.

PROBLEM NEEDS FIXING: InDesign Puts little faces in photos of my ORIGINAL ART
Version 19.5 x64
Indesign puts numerous little faces in my original artwork!
Steps to reproduce:
1: Hand draw some artwork
2: Photograph the artwork and save to hard drive
3: Use the "place" feature in InDesign to place the artwork into an INDD file
4: Adjust size via Fit commands
5. Find numerous tiny faces, both apparently drawn and photos e.g. black and white photos of faces, have suddenly appeared in the artwork.
Screenshot is attached with only the most obvious faces circled in green. There are many more.1 vote -

Indesign crashes when attempting to copy or delete a table with an anchored text form field.
Mac Monteray 12.7.6 - Indesign 2024
I'm using tables to hold form fields for a PDF form. When a text form field is anchored in a table, copying the table will cause text fields to disappear. Continuing to copy or delete that table will eventually cause a InDesign to crash. When reopening Indesign none of the menu commands work properly and I have to use Command Q to quit InDesign again and reopen in order to continue my work.
