InDesign CC 2018 stalls to a spinning beachball right after opening for a brief time
On first opening InDesign in Sierra 10.2.4, after a couple of seconds of not taking any action, InDesign stalls briefly—about 3 to 4 seconds—not allowing any new action during that time. There is just a spinning beachball. I can postpone the beachball by immediately opening a menu; but after mousing away from the menu the beachball comes back. Not sure if it is trying to load something, but I currently don't have any extra extensions installed. I tried resetting preferences and removing all user install scripts, but it still did it. It's consistent every time I open the new version. I did not carry forward preferences from previous versions. My CC library is synced and not showing any connection issues. Not a major bug, sort of the equivalent of tripping over the same spot of carpet whenever you enter into a room.
Hello All,
Thank you for reporting the issue and allowing us some time to complete our investigation into the issue.
As the part of our investigation, we had reached out to many of you personally over email and we could come up with the below mentioned findings.
1. For many of the users the issue got fixed after updating InDesign to a newer version.
2. For the majority of the users the issue was intermittent and is no longer reproducible.
3. We also found few cases where the performance issue was identified to be related to span columns, cross-references, third party plugin etc.
Please note that we have created separate threads for these issues and we are now working towards resolving them.
However, over the time this thread has become too generic to serve its purpose effectively. As per your feedback and the outcome of our investigation we have created multiple threads to address each of the root causes separately and effectively.
If you are facing any slowness in InDesign or seeing any other performance issue, we request you vote for the relevant thread or create a new thread specifying the action/workflow which is slowing you down.
We seek your support in our continuous effort to improve InDesign.

Same problem. Spinning when I click on any one object, spinning when I mouse over a tool, Spinning every few secs. Its un-useable! Tried every suggestion there is out there and the spinning ball comes back every time! This is a dire fundamental issue. Adobe please at least acknowledge and tell us you are owning on this fix.

Spinning, spinning, and no answers!! No obvious reason for it. Been happy with Adobe products for past 14 years, but this is frustrating and pretty much unworkable. It is hampering work efficiencies, costing us valuable staff time and delays on design/layout jobs. In short, it's costing us money.
Adobe team, if you bother to read this --> FIX IT!!!! -

All our files are on a server. I have turned off almost everything I can to make it run faster. I'm NOT going to do a soft reboot just to get a program to run, when everything else runs fine. We're already waiting to jump ship. ID will go the way of Quark if something doesn't change soon

I, too, am having spinning-ball problems. I am using iD version 13.1, High Sierra version 10.13.4, and I am using Suitcase Fusion version 19.0.5 (6615). I cannot make any headway in my document at all because the ball spins every time I click on anything. I resaved my document as an idml and opened that. Same thing. Spinning ball. Has anyone figured this out? Someone suggested it was Suitcase Fusion, but has anyone figured this out in the last three days?

I don't find it to be of any coincidence that the new "rental" structure Adobe's adopted for its software use coincides with the sub-par quality of the latest software iterations. When you have a defective product you've bought, you return it for a replacement or refund. With this "usage agreement," you're in-between a rock and a hard place—paying for something that doesn't work as advertised, and clearly not under isolated circumstances. It will take a concerted movement away from this product to get anyone's attention at Adobe. Unfortunately, however, 2 things will occur: a new start-up company with resolutions to these issues will replace the complacent and lazy Adobe products/service; and the knee-jerk reaction from Adobe (with a flood of advertising dollars to buy back ex-user's interest) will fall on uninterested ears. Some people (and businesses) have to bottom out before they see the light.

I am having the same issue. Adobe said it was caused by Suitcase Fusion, but after purchasing the update to that program, updating the system with a minor release, clearing preferences and caches I am still having issues. Running CC2018, Fusion 8 and High Sierra 10.13.5 .... HELP!!!!!!

I have had this exact issue since the last InDesign software update. It's infuriating and very disruptive to my workflow. Adobe please fix this. Really.

Same here! I change the font size in a footnote and the spinning ball spins for 3 minutes! Can't work like this!

This is the worst it's ever been. I can edit for hours with the same document size in Word. Shortly after I imported into InDesign, the issues started. I was able to work without interruption briefly and then the beach ball began appearing after every few characters.. Have InDesign CC installed on Mac in High Sierra.

Having the exact same issue. Even when starting a new document. I've reset prefs/cache, installed latest version - but still get a 2/3sec beachball every time I click on every god damn thing or scroll between pages. I've had to install inDesign CC 2017 just to try hit a deadline today.
Please please fix this Adobe - it's unusable.

Ane me too - latest update to InDesign seems to have created this problem. I am sick of looking at that stupid spinning ball. It happens even when I'm not doing anything. Even when I was looking through the preference panels to see if there was anything else I could turn off :-)

This issue is driving me crazy. I paginate a weekly newspaper in one day and after every click the beach ball appears — it is absolutely killing my productivity. I have done everything that has been mentioned with scripts, preferences, etc. Please Adobe, can you give us an update of when this may be addressed? Thank you!

Same for me. Latest everything. Plenty of ram.
I uninstalled, including prefs, reinstalled. Still happening.
I can use the program for about two minutes before it beachballs for a good minute, then comes back.
No comment from you, Adobe. You guys should feel pretty crappy about the level of service you give. I'm not even doing something special, simply using the program I'm PAYING for. You're costing me time and money and not holding up your end of the contract.

Same problem here. At times i have to wait almost a minute after every action I take. This is killing my productivity! I'm running 10.11.6 as well. Can someone comment if it works any better on the latest OS?

Opening Indesign: beachball and a 2-minute wait, 'preparing panels...' . Double clicking a text frame to select text: takes two seconds to activate the text tool Then, when text is selected, select another word: beachball. Switching from another app to Indesign: takes a couple seconds or more: beachball. Beachballs beachballs and stalls ... are you preparing to ditch Indesign also???
I'm on a Mac with latest version of everything and a 2015 iMac i7 with plenty of RAM and only a few inactive apps running. Deleted all Indesign stuff including preference folders and -files in libraries. Then completely reinstalled Indesin 2018. No plugins installed. All to no avail.
And what about commenting on these concerns by adobe staff? Where are you guys??

For clarification, I am in El Capitan 10.11.6 with InDesign CC 2018 version 13.01 .
This issue is very frustrating.
