InDesign crashes/freezes when closing the document
InDesign freezes when you close a document. We cannot open any documents, no action can be performed in InDesign. InDesign cannot be quit, it has to Forced Kill.
20 votesMany internal as well as external factors can cause the InDesign application to crash/freeze/hang. A few workarounds are listed at Fix crash issues with InDesign.
We completed the investigation and came up with the following: Either the issue has been resolved in the most recent release of InDesign (Refer to InDesign Release notes), the issue was intermittent at the time of reporting and is no longer reproducible, or the InDesign version mentioned in the report is no longer covered by Creative Cloud Support Policy.
We would recommend you upgrade to the latest version as it is more robust. If you are still facing this issue even after updating it, either submit the crash report(Refer to Submitting crash reports) to us or Contact Adobe support.

[ID-4257736]InDesign hangs when placing CJK tagged text with ruby
I'm currently using ID 2024, but I have tested other versions of ID, back to CS6, and they all have the same problem. I'm currently running Windows 11, but the problem also occurs in Windows 10.
Steps:
- Install the Adobe font family, Source Han Sans TW, on your computer.
- Download TaggedText.zip and unzip it
- Open InDesign in the CJK version
- Create a new document with these grid attributes: Direction = Vertical; Font = Source Han Sans TW, Normal; Size = 16 pt; Vertical = Horizontal = 100%; Char Aki = 0 pt; Line Aki = 10 pt; Characters = 40;…

Persistent Cursor and Functionality Issues in Adobe InDesign After macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 Update
Description of the Issue:
I’m experiencing multiple issues with Adobe InDesign across different versions (including the latest and earlier releases) after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.1.1. These problems occur consistently across various files and significantly disrupt workflow.
Issues encountered:
Unable to apply colors from the swatch palette – clicking on a swatch does not work for either text or objects.
Styles (both text and object) cannot be applied by clicking; I must use right-click and "Apply Style" instead.
Frames on the page shift a few millimeters upon clicking, seemingly on their own.
Stroke color for objects cannot be selected or…2 votes -
InDesign 2025 / v20.0: »background task« tries to activate font all the time
Working with the font Minion Pro InDesign 2025 wants to activate the font in the background (shown in the background tasks panel) although it IS activated.
Closing the document does not bother InDesign. It still wants to activate the font (see screenshot 2).
Quit & Restart helps, but it should work correctly without it.

Replaced text (when using Track Changes) in a table will crash InDesign/InCopy 2024 when switching to text views
To recreate (See attached images):
- Create a simple table in InDesign and add some content to one cell, then activate Track Changes.
- Select the content and replace it with new content, then select to switch to "Story Editor".
What occurs:
1. InDesign will completely freeze up and needs to be forced to quit.
2. This will also happen (in the same set up) if you are using InCopy and switch to either "Story" or "Galley" view.Comments:
It seems that this is triggered by the graphics that highlight the removed/new text. If you are not showing the colors in any…42 votesThe fix of the issue is now available in InDesign 2024(v19.2.0.046) and above. We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.

2025 InDesign (v20.0) Frequent Crashing on MacOS 15.0.1 Sequoia
Ever since the 2025 version of InDesign released earlier this month, I have had constant crashing issues while working on multiple files. I have been using MacOS 15 Sequoia since it released in September. At first it seemed to crash at random every 5-30 minutes while going between open indd tabs. I think I can more consistently trigger it now by trying to open/navigate around a .indt file. I have a screen recording attached of me clicking around with a 2025 .indt file, a 2025 .indd file, and a 2024 .indd file. Within this minute long recording, InDesign crashes twice,…

InDesign 20.0 on iMac. Randomly crashes (haven't had this problem with any previous versions). Could be a few minutes after opening the program or while working on a file. Very random but too often. I reset preferences, ran disk utility, et al.

Mouse click doesn't register properly
On MacOS IdDesign 20.0.1 and 19.5.1 improperly register mouse clicks.
As this misbehaviour started recently I suspect that some Apple patch broken something.
But I do not experience any issues in other applications! Everything seems to work normally but InDesign. If you click a frame, InD registers a click-and-hold while I just clicked it with trackpad and lifted the finder up (see video).
Second, if I put editing mark into the text and go to Paragraph style to apply it, the palette doesn’t register the click properly—it seems it registers a drag, not a click! I can only try to…

[ID-4256174]InDesign crashes while searching any font/word, etc., which is in overset text.
We have simple scripts that operate on script labels to Find and Replace Text, adjust Text Size, things like that. We've been using them for three years with no problems prior to v2025. They crash and bring up the option to send an error report. We're rolling back to 2024 now, we can't operate efficiently without these scripts.
2 votesThe fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2025(v20.0.1.032). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application click on the context menu on the top right, and click on Check for App Updates.

On waking Mac from sleep, open documents are grayed out on external monitor.
If I put my MacBook Pro to sleep with work on an external monitor, when I turn it on at another place with an external monitor, all open documents are grayed out and do not display any object. The objects are selectable, but I can't see what's in them. Switching display modes, minimizing or dragging between displays doesn't help either.

InDesign 19.5 hangs on startup (ARM Mac, not sure about x86 and Windows)
I've been experiencing this for some time on different Macs with different versions of InDesign. This time round I have a repeatable setup which makes the issue occur consistently. The issue occurs on 'real' machines as well as VMs - it's just that this time I've 'caught' the problem in one of my VMs.
I am using a Mac OS X virtual machine (using Parallels) on an ARM processor (M2 Max, 64GB of memory). In the virtual machine, I've only installed Mac OS X Sequoia, Creative Cloud Desktop, and InDesign 19.5. Everything is as vanilla as it can be.

program freezes after Save As
InDesign v.19.4 freezes after Save As is used. The program is inaccessible and has to be force quit and restarted. It will reopen the document when it starts up again with no data lost. An annoyance, but at least no work is forfeited.

2025 ID - Linked Files fail and just Spin
Mac 14.7 - ID 2025 - Docs with Linked Files (simple PDFs and Jpgs) just produce spinners and never become workable. Display set to Typical. This happens AFTER a file is saved and re-opened. When it is made all is fine, until it is closed and reopened. Have reverted to 2024.

version 19.5.0.84 quits on open, OS ventura 13.1
Indesign 2024 version 19.5.0.84, OS Ventura 13.1. It will open once, but after closing the app, and opening it the second time, it flashes the InDesign 'open screen' and then quits. The only workaround found is to uninstall and reinstall. I've been doing this for 6 mos, and it's getting old. We all pay for the software to work. I've been using Adobe products for decades and it seems it's worse now. What is the fix?

Adding a word starting with the Danish letter æ makes InDesign crash
Add a word starting with the Danish letter æ to an index invariably crashes InDesign, both the small æ and the capital Æ, no matter which method we use. Words where this letter is not placed at the beginning, like “bæverfælde", are no problem, nor are the two other Danish characters ø and å.
We also tried to add the words from a list, using a script which places index markers on every instance in the document; this did not make InDesign crash, but no entries were added either :-(
Perhaps connected to the fact that it is no longer…1 vote
