1. Auto-activate fonts tries to activate a font that doesn't exist, forever

   With the new auto-activation of fonts, my InDesign seems to try to activate 'Bureau Grot', which so far as I can tell, isn't an Adobe font. Does it constantly in the background and there's no way to cancel it/tell it it's barking up the wrong tree...

2. Serious problem of "^" for GREP search

   Enter only "^" in the GREP search string field and click the search button to select the insertion point at the beginning of the paragraph. But this cannot be used for replacement. The replacement result is 0.
   I gave up that it was only useful for simple pointing tricks, but when I run it from a script the application hangs.

   It is like this. (When executed, the rainbow cursor will rotate forever.
   Please be careful. )

   app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "^";
   var res = app.activeDocument.findGrep ();

   If the replacement string field is "~ c" (the contents of the clipboard), the first character is lost from the original text instead of entering it.
   This is also a very dangerous behavior.

   Requests for improvement include:
   Improved to prevent hang when executing the above script,
   If possible, replace text (add a character string to the beginning of a paragraph).

3. Kerning (spacing) issue with small caps active

   There's an annoying issue with kerning (or in general with characters spacing) on characters without small caps when small caps is active on preceding characters.
   This appens randomly on a full text document but seems always with text imported from Word.
   The strange thing is that if I deactivate small caps from only a white space before the badly spaced text, the problem disappear. Likewise if I deactivate small caps from preceding word but keep it in the white space before the badly spaced text, the problem disappear again. However if I deactivate small caps from preceding text, keeping it in a white space before the badly spaced text and in a single character before, the problem still remain.
   I don't know why this appens and why only in some text, but this is annoing because it's not so evident when scrolling through a big document and it could remain on a printed book.

4. CC 2020 - Text tool switches back to previous tool, deselects itself

   Indesign 15.1.2 user here.

   Abnormally while im working in big sized files in indesign, whenever i press my Type Tool shortcut (which is "T") cursor goes to Type tool for a second then goes back to usally selection tool.

   When i go and choose the Type tool from left side bar it works.

   Im using windows pro 10. Re installed the program for few times.
   Saw other threads opened for the same issue but looks like you guys closed time bc it is fixed. But it is not! And it is incredibely time consuming!

   For several months now, when I place a .docx document in inDesign, it can happen that a character is misinterpreted by inDesign.
   It's as if it's invisible for the layout, but it actually cuts the word in half for spelling correction, for example.
   When I copy it to search for it with inDesign with or without GREP, it does paste something (a lowercase L or an uppercase i preceded by a ^ in normal or ~ in GREP) but it doesn't find it.
   When displaying hidden characters it appears as two vertical red dots (see my photo).
   Sometimes it also appears at the very beginning of a sentence.

6. Text rendering bug – the edited text is rendered over older version of the text

   I work on a book. While editing the book, I face constant rendering issues: the updated text is rendered on top of the unaltered text. It happens irregularly many times a day. The problem is not document oriented nor platform specific. I started to make screenshots in March and the bug is still present.
   It is very annoying. The only solution is to switch to Selection tool and the change select the Text tool. If you seriously edit a document and you face rendering bugs every five minutes, it is pain **********.

8. Baseline of text shifts

   In the last two versions (Am now at latest v16.0) of InDesign this has been happening to me: my fonts baseline shifts mid word, randomly.

9. GREP match expressions with endnote marker doesn't work correctly

   Some GREP match expressions with endnote marker don't work. For instance:

   (?<=~U)(.|\r|\t)

   returns no result.

   (.)~U

   returns no result.

   The same expressions work fine with footnote marker.
   Error appears in all versions of ID up to current.

10. unwanted space at line beginning (Thai language)

    when paragraph contain Latin text or number or space at end of the line, many times when shrinking or expanding text frame, indesign cut the line and put space at beginning of the next line where those Latin text or number goes.

11. Variable Font: top of "U" wiggles as you change weight (FreeType bug)

    1. Download and unzip https://www.dropbox.com/s/3b6k0izkm5ma3dy/200719-AdobeVFBug.zip?dl=1

    2. Install the font from font/DaikonVF-mini.ttf

    3. Run InDesign 15.1.1

    4. Type "AU" and choose the Daikon VF font

    5. Click the Variable Font button and move the weight slider between the extreme locations. Observe how the top of "U" "wiggles" (jumps up and down). This is shown in videos/DaikonVF-InDesign-15.1.1.mp4

    6. The same problem occurs in Illustrator 24.2.1 and I have logged it at https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/40945024-variable-font-bug-wiggling-top-of-u

    7. The same problem occurs in DTL OTmaster 7.9 and in FontView 2019 (an open source app built from https://github.com/googlefonts/fontview ) — both apps use older versions of the FreeType library.

    8. The problem no longer occurs in FontView 2020 (which I’ve rebuilt with newest FreeType). I’m including both the 2019 and 2020 version of FontView in the ZIP.

    9. The problem also does not occur in Chrome 83 (which I think uses FreeType for VF), nor it occurs in Safari 13.1.2. Videos are included in the "video" folder.

    So it seems that it’s a bug in FreeType which was fixed by the FreeType developers. If Illustrator and InDesign use FreeType for VF, then Adobe should update FreeType to the newest version.

12. Vertical Text Alignment not working correctly in InDesign 2020

    I recently upgraded to InDesign CC 2020 and find all the text in circles not aligned vertically center. Document was last opened in CC 2019 and these were fine. I haven’t modified these since. Rectangles are fine. See attached example - clearly not right and inconsistently so. I have tried every setting and I can’t get them to line up. Thanks!

    Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.0.1

    In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.

    If you have created documents from ID15.0 where you see this issue, please do a Force Recomposition of the Text Frames (Cmd-Opt-/ on Mac, Ctrl-Alt-/ on Win) to make it work correctly.

    Let us know in the comments section if you face any problem with the updation process.

    InDesign has started supporting SEA languages since ID 2020. Adobe WR composer needs to be selected to compose in SEA languages correctly. Since Thai is a SEA language, please use Adobe WR composer for the correct composition of the text.

14. Stroke Drawing Order | Row Strokes In Front issue

    Hi everyone,

    I'm facing a problem in indesign and I assume this should be reported as a bug unless someone has a solution to it, so…

    I work with a lot of tables, and sometimes, for more lisibility, I have a insert "gutters" to table columns (actually it's white right strokes on my cells), sometimes it's just the client who wants them everywhere on tables. Anyway, there's a great feature in table styles that let me decide whether the row stroke is above the column stroke or the other way.

    it works perfectly when choosing Column Strokes In Front, every rows are "cut" by column borders, even the first and last one. But when I need the first and last rows not to be cut bye choosing Row Strokes In Front, there's still a little part of the row that is cut by my column gutter, here's an example attached to this message.

    I thought at first that it was just a displayed issue, like we often have in acrobat with tiny details, but the problem is still here when printing the table.

    Is there something I could do or it's a known problem from indesign?

    For information, I tried to change the weight of both strokes to see if it does change something, but it doesn't.

15. Adobe Fonts: Licensed with Creative Cloud but marked as "not allowed, protected" in Preflight, InDesign

    Please help me: I'm using two fonts for a book soon to be published. I have activated the fonts in Creative Cloud. I work in InDesign. Now a Preflight check tells me that my fonts are "Not Allowed: Protected" (that's the only way to translate that message from Swedish). How do I solve this??? (The fonts I'm using are Minion Pro and Myriad Pro). I thought my InDesign recognised licenses from Creative Cloud. Have I misunderstood this completely? Desperate, please give me clue.. 17. Cannot use bold version of Adobe Caslon Pro in version 16.0.1

    In the 2021 version of InDesign, the bold version of Adobe Caslon Pro does not work. It leaves a blank space, and if you click on the opentype box, it says "opentype properties are not applicable." The font itself is not the problem...I cannot reinstall the fonts because creative cloud tells me they are already there. Caslon and all its versions are also correctly installed in my windows fonts folder. I also cannot export to a PDF when I have the bold version of Caslon on a page. I CAN see, print, and use the bold font in older versions of InDesign. Something is wrong in 2021 InDesign and needs to be fixed.
