Unable to kill find missing fonts background process
If the preferences setting to automatically find missing fonts is set, there are three major issues:
1/ The background process never times out,
2/ The background process severely degrades InDesign performance for everything else, and
3/ There is no way to manually kill that background process. If we could, then issues 1 and 2 would not be such problems. If the fonts aren't found, or the internet connection is hinky, or if the Adobe servers are under heavy load or having other issues, we could just kill that background process and then either try again later or design an workaround…8 votes -
Unable to drag & drop images into Indesign 2021 Open File
- Set-up a new document
- Have added text and images as normal.
- Command + D is successful when placing an image, however, drag & drop does nothing. No image shows in the thumbnail near the cursor either.
This is an issue as it is much quicker to drag & drop than placing the images from different locations.

Border is not extending when table comes
I am using InDesign CC 2019
Expected Result:
While using InDesign Border Features to format box items, there is an option to Merge consecutive Border and Shading with same setting in paragraph style. This is working for text and Images. But when inline table comes in between, border is not extending for tables.Actual result
I have attached screenshot of expected result and actual result for your quick reference.8 votes -
Endnotes are tagged incorrectly when exporting to Accessible PDF from InDesign 2021
In InDesign 2021, endnotes are not nested inside of a <Note> tag like they should be. Now only the Endnote number is in a <Note> tag and everything else is in a <P> tag. Normal behavior is to put each Endnote in its entirety within a <Note> tag. In addition, for several versions Endnotes and Footnotes are in a <Note> tag but then there's a <P> tag within the <Note> tag. The <P> tag is unnecessary and causes an error when trying to validate Accessible PDF. Please remove the <P> tag within <Note> tags when exporting to tagged PDF.

Big problems with Illustrator files in InDesign
When I change something in a linked Illustrator file it doesn't update the image on the page in InDesign even though it's refreshed in the link tab.
And today I saw that a part of an image was missing (a little bit was outside the image frame) in a pdf file. So I looked at the InDesign file, but it looked ok. Then I changed the image to show in high resolution and all of a sudden the page refreshed and the linked file was updated and was now showing the same error as in the pdf.
So it seems…8 votes -
spellchecker causes InDesign to crash
I've had this occur across multiple files; some new, some old.
I cannot stop the behaviour from happening despite cache and com. dumps, prefernence resets, etc. - whenever I run Spellchecker InDesign disappears/crashes. I'm losing money constantly as I'm a designer who outputs a lot of multi page brochures, books, magazines, etc. and my efficiency has ground to a halt.8 votesThe issue has been fixed in the latest release of InDesign – InDesign 2021.

Endnotes with links incorrect when exporting to an accessible PDF file.
When exporting an InDesign file to an accessible PDF file (tagged PDF), if any endnotes contain hyperlinks, the tagging structure is messed up. Starting with the first hyperlink (not the links for the endnote references), all of the endnotes from that point on are in the link tag for that first hyperlink. I encountered a very similar bug a few years ago when exporting to the EPUB format with documents that contained endnotes that finally got resolved a year or so after the bug was reported.

Type library is not automatically created by CC2020 installation. Error 104705: Unable to load Adobe InDesign Type Library (Version 1.0)
Extensions and scripts halting or crashing after installing CC2020, due to a missing type library.
Our customers report errors after updating to CC2020, and I got the same error when I tried. Our script make a halt at a DoScript call, with this error: 104705: Unable to load Adobe InDesign Type Library (Version 1.0)
After starting InDesign CC2020 "AS ADMINISTRATOR", a missing type library is obviously created: the message and error disappears after doing that once.
It was not enough for my user just to have administrator privileges on my computer and in the domain, I had to explicitly start…8 votesThe fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign release 16.2.1

Self-closes or crashes when computer sleeps
InDesign 15.1.1
Windows 10
After putting computer to "Sleep", InDesign is closed upon wakening the computer. Sometimes says "crashed" (10% of the time). Other Adobe applications are still open where left off.8 votes -
Auto-activate fonts tries to activate a font that doesn't exist, forever
With the new auto-activation of fonts, my InDesign seems to try to activate 'Bureau Grot', which so far as I can tell, isn't an Adobe font. Does it constantly in the background and there's no way to cancel it/tell it it's barking up the wrong tree...

Long Text Variables kern instead of return to new line
Indesign 2020
When using text variables with a bounding box that is too short for the line to fit, the line of dynamic text will squeeze together in order to fit instead of dropping to a new line. It would be nice if the line will drop down to a new line as normal text does in a text box.8 votes -

Slow
Ever since these latest updates to InDesign, the performance is slow even with Display Performance set to Fast. I looked through the RAM and made sure no other settings were making it lag. I've uninstalled and reinstalled with no difference in performance. There shouldn't be a need to update InDesign so frequently, I've used Adobe products for over 10 years and these updates are making the usability go backwards.

InDesign 2020 Middle Eastern, Arabic language causes reversed numbers order
When working with Arabic and wanting to have Roman Digits, one needs to choose the "Arabic" digits option.
More option that should be set for Arabic are:
Character direction should be set to "default"
Paragraph direction should be set to "Right to Left"
Paragraph composer should be set to "Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer"
Language should be set to "Arabic"
Ligatures should be "On"BUT
If I type a date that suppose to be presented like this:
9/1/2020
as soon as selecting "Arabic" for language the order is reversed to this:
2020/1/9As digits has a built in Left to Right…
