spellchecker causes InDesign to crash
I've had this occur across multiple files; some new, some old.
I cannot stop the behaviour from happening despite cache and com. dumps, prefernence resets, etc. - whenever I run Spellchecker InDesign disappears/crashes. I'm losing money constantly as I'm a designer who outputs a lot of multi page brochures, books, magazines, etc. and my efficiency has ground to a halt.
The issue has been fixed in the latest release of InDesign – InDesign 2021.
Please update to this new version of InDesign to get the fix.

January 2024 and this issue is back for me. If I choose "Ignore All" during a spellcheck, InDesign freezes and crashes. This is happening on multiple documents, including brand new ones. Preference reset does not solve it.

This issue is NOT fixed. ID Spellcheck is the worst. It crashes constantly, you can't save decisions about particular words in a document (i.e., every time I have to run the spellcheck I have to repeat dozens of decisions, e.g., non-capitalized words in certain places). And don't tell me to use a document-specific dictionary, because that crashes every time. I've wasted dozens of hours on the world's worst spellchecker. Please lmk where to send my invoice.

It is definitely still happening in ID 2021

Good to know there is a fix for the crashing in spellcheck. But when is the spellchecker going to be able to recognise everyday words, please? Examples it has failed to recognise today include ‘farmers’, ‘Sweden’ and – oh, the irony – ‘English’!

My main client uses InDesign 15.1.3, so this is the version I must use too. The spellchecker constantly crashes the application after querying 3 or 4 words. It does not happen with earlier versions of ID, which I use with other clients. The application has the latest update (4 days ago) but the issue persists. This is a huge obstacle to my work. Crash reports submitted.

Ravi how do I access/install a Beta Build "pre-release" version?

The last 2-3 available updates of InDesign have a serious bug relating to spellchecking. When choosing "Check Spelling" the spellchecker process works for a few results but then eventually crashes InDesign completely. I've had this occur with all my InDesign files some 1 page, some magazine length, some using English UK; some using English US. I've tried copying the text out to a plain text editor, and re-pasting it back in with brand new text frames, copying and pasting entire file content to brand new InDesign files, Clearing InDesign preferences, etc. but the problem keeps occurring.

This is still a constant issue. Multiple files. Check Spelling crashes InDesign constantly. It is unusable. Has been happening for months now over various updates. Has Adobe Acknowledged this issue?

Hello,
I am not this person.I am another person that appears to be having major issues with InDesign 15.1.1 chasing during Spell Checking.
I have turned Dynamic Spelling off and attempted to universally set the Dictionary.I have sent 5-8 crash reports.
Any suggestions.
If I right mouse click on a word to check spelling it crashes. If I go to the Edit menu and select Check Spelling it eventually crashes after 4-6 words.
I am literally designing a training manual and for the last 2 days I have had to migrate it to Pages as InDesign is not working.
Thank you

At any stage in spell checking but usually at the start. Running Mac Catalina and In Design 15.1.1 on a McBook Pro 2019.
