1. Fix/lock toolbar (avoid unintentional undocking)

   Please add a feature to avoid undocking the toolbar. The Selection Tool (black arrow) is too near to the dotted line, indicating the draggable region of the toolbar. I've accidentally undocked the bar countless times. I mean hundred and hundred of times of cumbersomely dragging the toolbar back where it belongs. Especially when working fast on a big screen or multiscreen setup.

   A suitable workaround is using keyboard shortcuts, but that's not a good solution for a UI flaw.

2. Link comments to text as well as to physical location in graphics frame

   This could be viewed as a bug report, from the user's perspective. And I am a user and not a coder or designer for ID (though I am a UX dweeb.) However, from a coder/designer standpoint, this is a feature request, thus posting here rather than as a bug.

   The feature is to link comments not to an x,y location on a spread, but to (1) an x,y location within a graphics frame, or (2) for a text frame, to specific text in that frame. Linking to text can be by highlighting the text and then attaching a comment to it. (Deleted text that was highlighted could leave the comment at the place where it was deleted; attaching the deleted text to the comment automatically would be great but hard to code.)

   The reason for this is that if you add text or move graphics frames around and then, in the Share for Review Panel, click Update Link, your pins or lines don't point to the original material anymore, and all of those comments on that first version don't make sense any more.

   As Alan Cooper pointed out in his About Face 1.0, it is important to conform the user interaction design to the user's mental model. My mental model when I started using Share for Review was that I could edit the document, click Update Link and the existing comments' pins or lines would still connect to the text and graphics, not to an x,y position on the original spread. Maybe for a graphics-intensive single-page ad this would make sense, but not for a magazine article or book chapter, which, after all, is mostly what InDesign is about.

   I would suggest an immediate fix to this mental model/implementation model conflict by changing the Update Link button so it archives the original document on the server, with the comments still linking to the (right) original text and graphics, presenting the user with a URL for that, and then putting the new document up at the original URL without any of the original comments, but with a link to the original document/comments.

   This would allow time to develop the code to link better to text and graphics within their frames.

   It would require a bit of help in the interface for users to develop a mental model of how this works, but would be worth it.

3. More control over file name when exporting multiple files (such as PNGs for an animation)

   When exporting images from pages on an inDesign document it names them like this

   document
   document2
   document3
   ..
   document9
   document10

   When you import these same images into Photoshop to make a stack or to start an animation the layers don't appear in the right order because photoshop obviously doesn't understand that the file without a number is the first one, and that document 10 shouldn't follow document1, so they have to be reordered manually. Could you not add a tool so we can ask or files to be called file001, file 002, ... it would save a lot of time

4. Update Link in contextual menu please

   When a linked image is changed outside InDesign, a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark appears.
   How nice would it be when we could update the image via right mouse click! Currently we have to go to the Links Panels menu.

5. More options when placing multiple images in a grid

   It would be great to have more options when placing multiple images at once (shift-command). Currently, the default is a 9x9 grid. What if we could change the default to whatever we wanted – one long row, for instace. And what if we could preset distances between the images and orientations? I'm asking because this tool isn't that functional, as I need to adjust the image box sizes after positioning. I don't always need a 9x9 grid, nor have 9 image. It would be a great time-saver for heavy-production projects, like image-intensive books.

6. Add comments from InDesign to reviewer using Share for Review

   It seems like owners of documents can only reply to existing comments made in the Share for Review document but can't create comments in InDesign that appear in the Share for Review document. Often, we have a question about text or images that the reviewer needs to answer, but we have to first Share for Review and then create the comment there. It would be great if we could convert InDesign Notes to comments for the reviewer that they can see in the Share for Review side panel.

7. Improve handling of font files by consolidating and normalising fonts internally

   Font handling for multiple font file types is broken: if a given typeface represents weights using font files of different types, then different parts of InDesign will handle the font differently. Nowhere will it appear as one family with all weights below it. Because the presentation of the problem is significantly different between InDesign subsystems (paragraph style setting and setting font from the tool bar, for example) this might indicate refactoring is in order to ensure all subsystems handle fonts the same way.

8. New way to select individual text characters by marquee or dragging a box etc.

   Text selection via marquee like the lasso tool in Illustrator or photoshop. This would select individual characters in live (not outlined) text for formatting just the selected characters in interesting ways. This also helps to select a column if you are working in tabbed text rather than text in a table. Also, picture a large body of text where you could highlight say a circle for instance in the middle and make it a bolder font. There used to be a plug in for Quark that did this exact thing.

10. CMD+CornerRotation unsed, idea: Rotate around anchorpoint

    While rotating an object with the default tool (not the rotation tool), the CMD-key is unused.

    shift+rotate = rotate in 45° steps
    alt+rotate = rotate and make duplicate
    shift+alt+rotate = rotate in 45° steps and make duplicate

    cmd+rotate => rotate around the anchored point
    cmd+alt+...
    cmd+shift+...
    cmd+alt+shift+...

    You get the idea.

11. Pressure Sensitive Brush Pen (Vector brush to use with pressure sensitive pens)

    Many professional artists use some sort of pressure sensitive pen like Wacom (Cintiq) or the much cheaper and equally good HUION tablets).

    InDesign has a vector pen tool, with which professionals can write, scribble, design and create personalised unique graphic images, with a freedom that no other text/font ever can proviude. But this vector pen tool does NOT support pressure sensitivity.

    Enabling pressure sensitivity (think of it as a simplified Brush Pen tool of illustrator) will allos professionals to directly in our most beloved favorite design program!

12. the ability to assign direct keyboard shortcuts to Character Styles, just as we can with Paragraph Styles

    I’d like to request a long-overdue feature that would significantly improve efficiency for many users: the ability to assign direct keyboard shortcuts to Character Styles, just as we can with Paragraph Styles (Apply Style 1–9).

    Why this matters:
    In many editorial and layout workflows, character styles (like emphasis, inline bold, or language-specific styling) are used just as frequently as paragraph styles.

    The current workaround—creating scripts for each style and manually assigning shortcuts through the Keyboard Shortcuts panel—is unnecessarily complex for a feature that feels fundamental.

    This limitation is particularly frustrating because character styles are already present in the UI, and the keyboard shortcut field is even visible in the style editing dialog—just grayed out.

    Suggested Implementation:
    Allow the first 9 character styles to be assigned shortcuts (like Paragraph Styles 1–9).

    Or provide full shortcut assignment per character style directly in the style options.

    Display any conflicts or warnings if a shortcut is already in use, as with other customizable commands.

    Why now:
    Modern workflows demand speed and flexibility.

    Many designers rely on styles to maintain consistency across documents.

    Competing software and plugins are beginning to offer more fluid control over styles and shortcuts.

    Thank you for all the continued improvements to InDesign. This change would be a small tweak with a big impact for everyday users.

14. Edit ALL gaps in a selection.

    It would be super helpful if you could edit ALL the gaps in a selection of objects with the gap tool, so matter the layout. See attached example of boxes – would be amazing is you could select and edit all gaps with the gap tool, perhaps with a new keyboard shortcut? That is all, thanks in advance! Anders

15. rotate item to match angle of another object, line segment, or curve point (add this to illustrator too please)

    Fairly frequently as part of manipulating objects and graphics I need to rotate an object to align with the angle of another item or line segment. This is time consuming currently as I have to create a new orthogonal line, align it to touch a point on the reference object and then rotate both the new line and the other object with a set rotation point until the 'smart'guide' tells me ive intersected the reference line with my rotation. It would be much easier if rotation had an additional tool or in-guild feature where you could rotate an item - with reference to - the angle of a line segment or point on a curve.

16. alignment and custom footnotes etc

    I would like to see some more feature as described below, so this powerful too will be a step ahead for an Advance Page Layout tool. Here are some of them:

    1. Some custom footnotes so can can add daggers and other symbols exactly like MSWord not the current features. This should be like first symbol, then 1, 2, 3 etc.

    2. Customizing Text box sequence so it will be more intuitive for numbering figures. Think about I've add 100 of figures numbering text box using numbering features, then at editing page need to rearrange/adding/remove some figures, in this it won't work until rearrange text box. It'll help some kind of features to rearrange text box etc.

    I would like to see some more feature as described below, so this powerful too will be a step ahead for an Advance Page Layout tool. Here are some of them:

17. Online publishing and interactivity needs importvments

    1- make it responsive so it will fill in the screen
    2- add navigation (TOC) on the side
    3- better way to mange multiple publications, possibly folders..
    4- Adding custom URL, for example: Comapnyname.com/issue 01
    5- Allow publishing from another adobe ID, this would be great for teams so the publication isn't tied to one person. Maybe the publishing can be directly in the dashboard, for example: user login into the dash board, select new publication or exciting one, the click publish to get indesign file to be uploaded or opened on the computer and automatically published. this way we are sure the person own the file!
    6- The interactivity panels needed to be improved and account the complexity may have, mabye we can have Interactive Styles panels, copy/past interactivity?
    7- an option in in-design settings, where everytime user add link, it will automatically copy it project folder, this cab be turned on and off
    8- make all indesign cash/backup files, located on the local machine to speed up the work on server.

19. Idea to create a simpler way to type on path with ellipse / circle

    I wish you could create a better and simpler way to type on path, especially on ellipses / circles. It's SUPER difficult when you have to work with multiple lines in a circle, like we used to on a CD for example.

    My pitch:
    What if we could treat typing on path like a text box? So you draw the ellipse / shape from the Type on Path menu, and the text automatically gets treated as if Typing on a line / shape?
    And when you press Return, it behaves like it would in a paragraph (text going to the next inner line), but within the shape. And you can even adjust the line spacing. Take the ease of the radial repeat tool in Illustrator, and add it to this tool.

    It's type in a textbox, but applied to Type on Path. See screenshots attached.
    And selecting the object: Only the text is selectable, and the lines of the ellipse is "invisible." You have to click on the visible text of that shape to edit / move it.

    And when you double-click on that text, it still behaves like Type on Text, until you "expand" it... But you won't have to continuously lock and unlock loads of circle paths anymore. What if you only have to select the text, and not the shape? Wouldn't that be simpler and more efficient?
    This was an okay solution for 20 years, but it's time for an improved way, Adobe.

    This whole idea eliminates the annoying task of having only a single line of text on a path, and accidentally selecting all the other circles to get to the desired text.
    This way would be so much simpler.
