Link comments to text as well as to physical location in graphics frame
This could be viewed as a bug report, from the user's perspective. And I am a user and not a coder or designer for ID (though I am a UX dweeb.) However, from a coder/designer standpoint, this is a feature request, thus posting here rather than as a bug.
The feature is to link comments not to an x,y location on a spread, but to (1) an x,y location within a graphics frame, or (2) for a text frame, to specific text in that frame. Linking to text can be by highlighting the text and then attaching a comment to it. (Deleted text that was highlighted could leave the comment at the place where it was deleted; attaching the deleted text to the comment automatically would be great but hard to code.)
The reason for this is that if you add text or move graphics frames around and then, in the Share for Review Panel, click Update Link, your pins or lines don't point to the original material anymore, and all of those comments on that first version don't make sense any more.
As Alan Cooper pointed out in his About Face 1.0, it is important to conform the user interaction design to the user's mental model. My mental model when I started using Share for Review was that I could edit the document, click Update Link and the existing comments' pins or lines would still connect to the text and graphics, not to an x,y position on the original spread. Maybe for a graphics-intensive single-page ad this would make sense, but not for a magazine article or book chapter, which, after all, is mostly what InDesign is about.
I would suggest an immediate fix to this mental model/implementation model conflict by changing the Update Link button so it archives the original document on the server, with the comments still linking to the (right) original text and graphics, presenting the user with a URL for that, and then putting the new document up at the original URL without any of the original comments, but with a link to the original document/comments.
This would allow time to develop the code to link better to text and graphics within their frames.
It would require a bit of help in the interface for users to develop a mental model of how this works, but would be worth it.
Thank you for listening (reading).

Cover building tool
It would be great if InDesign had a tool for easily building covers. Something as simple as allowing variable column widths so that you could input the width of C1, C4,spine, and the width of the joins on either side!

A folder system in Publish Online
Increasingly online publishing needs a home. Adobe offers this, although I came to this quite late. It is a mess when you have dozens of docs.

Open PDF
I want the ability to open an Adobe PDF in Adobe InDesign. The ability to have a pdf file that I can right click and go to Open With -> Adobe InDesign would save so much time at my job in the print industry. It takes forever to take 1,500 pages of a PDF document and individually place them in an InDesign file just so I can use a master page to overlay a bad logo that a client used. If they could just automatically open just as though I did the whole document by hand it would be a dream.

Would like to be able to share a pdf (for proofing/approval) straight out of InDesign. Exceeding valuable as it skips steps.
In the busy print workflow environment it would be nice to skip steps when providing clients with proofs for review/approval. Creating and sending a pdf proof to clients straight out of InDesign would be just the thing. Currently, as you know, you export the InDesign document as a pdf, open it up in Acrobat and share the file for review. While the Acrobat function is fine (although we've noticed lag time in clients receiving the proof) in the face-pace environment of a printshop, where many of these proofs are processed, it would be a time saver.

Go to Page (book-aware version of command)
The Go to Page command only works within a document. The Go to Page in Book command would open up the requested page in the Book file, regardless of whether the document were open at the time or not.
This is a valuable command because when editing long books with many chapters, it is useful to go directly to a page to make a change. It saves having to take your hand off the keyboard to the mouse, open the possibly closed Book panel, find the file that is in the page range, double-click it to open it, and then execute Go to Page.

Symbols panel / Quick apply formatting
Not sure if this suggestion lives under styles. What I'm thinking InDesign needs is a feature like Illustrators symbol library where we can take a group of pre styled objects and define them so that they can be easily dragged back on to the page rather than continually copying and pasting from other parts of a document on to then overtype or swap out images etc. as you build documents consisting of replicable structured content.
Functionality would need to be like Illustrator, a simple drag and drop interface on to a panel. So that any images, shapes, text frames, styles. colours etc are captured into one grouped object that can then later be recalled at will. Ideally through hot-key activation.
Then the link can be 'broken' to it's source so that it can be updated with new content.

Apply more than one cell style to a cell
With more complex tables, such as those for financial reports, the number of cell styles required becomes very slow to work with.
This is because you may want one column in one colour, another in a different colour, but then a row stroke cuts across all the columns.
At the moment, InDesign only allows you to have one cell style applied per cell. This means that when you've styled your table using one cell style, e.g. a colour, when you then add the other cell style for a row stroke, it will override the first cell style.
You then have to manually go in, cell by cell, and adjust, or create multiple cell styles for multiple variations.
For example:
Orange Cell
Orange Cell with Horizontal Line
Orange Cell with Vertical Line
Blank Cell with Horizontal Line......With more complex tables, such as those for financial reports, the number of cell styles required becomes very slow to work with.

Please allow multiple indesign files to be published as ONE published online magazine
I have magazine of 80+ pages which i have completely designed with multiple files as you would do in any magazine design and i thought in the end i would just combine all the files into one BOOK format and publish online. But to my misery that option doesn't work with online publishing. Imagine tomorrow the magazine needs to give live for an event and now i have to create a new single file and copy paste all the pages into the new file and keep checking if all the interactive features are working fine. Thanks Folks at Indesign for making my life difficult with the supposedly cool "Online Publishing" feature of Indesign. honestly it sucks that guys at Indesign team havnt thought of this basic feature! :(

Ability to create a custom Glyph
I need to insert in text symbols that appear on products - I have the symbols as an image which can easily be converted into bitmap/eps or whatever is needed in Photoshop.
It would be nice to be able to great a custom Glyph set and create your own library of regularly used symbols - I have about 200 of them from the technical writing I do. Inserting them and getting them to "stay put" is very time consuming and it would-be much easier if they worked just like putting in a symbol from a wingdings font or similar. It would also mean that if you changed font size the glyph would also change. It's a problem thats becoming more acute for me as more and more buttons on products are becoming symbol only due to globalisation of products is happening (same product to all markets.) A couple of the ones I need regularly are attached. It would also make getting these into a table which is often 14 columns by up to 200 rows with a symbol in each cell so much easier to format and resize to use else where. I regularly work at 8pt for small printed books and 12 pt for ebooks. No matter what you do with hem as graphic they do not scale well.

A customisable list of acronyms and words that the program can be made to use
I know that there is the ability to use a user dictionary which I use, but it would be nice if there was a exceptions list to put works in that would stop the autocorrect trying to change them or if they are put in - incorrectly they are changed to the right version. For example ISO seems to end up as Iso or ISo even though its been added to the user dictionary and Auto correct and There are some American words that I have to use as they are product related - Customization rather than customisation. Also to force Programme into Program and for RAW to always capitalise.
Not quite sure how it could work but when working on technical documents and books all the time there are so many specific terms - one recently that’s driving me nuts is HDR PQ - try typing that quickly! It's all over the keyboard. Photography cannot be the only field where there are weird exceptions and terms.

Bring back Click-and-Drag character and paragraph interface
The scale scrubbers on the control panel/menus that allowed us to click and drag to adjust character size, tracking, line spacing, etc. were invaluable. It allowed us to see the changes as we were making them. Please bring them back! It takes me about eight times as long to lay out text now.
