Layer nesting facility
The ability to nest layers within layers would be lovely. See image attached - it's a point of sale artwork example which has Adidas shoes and Nike shoes on separate layers with sub-layers for the prices and images - it has a common background on a separate layer. I'd like to be able to nest the 'image' and 'price' folders within each brand folder - this would really help negotiate files can contain up to 20 different brand folders .
Thanks in advance.

Load automatically the maximun ink (TAC) from the CMYK working space profile in the separations preview palette
Load automatically the maximun ink (TAC) from the CMYK working space profile in the separations preview palette.
It would be a nice feature if InDesign could load automatically the maximun ink (TAC) from the CMYK working space profile in the separations preview palette. Sometimes it is quite difficult to find that value inside the profile and if you are working with different requirements, as some prepress workshops do, having that preloaded would avooid many troubles.
Thanks :)

Outline type when exporting PDF
For various reasons, I export most of my high-res PDFs with the type outlined. Once a piece is finalized, I'll duplicate any pages in the file, then outline the type before exporting. It's not ideal (it confuses anyone new who comes in and has to work with our files), but it works.
The downfall is that, if there are any links using live type, that won't get outlined. And if it's a multi-page document, we wind up with a LOT of outlining and a ton of pages.
It would be AMAZING if InDesign included the option to outline all type…

Option to have list indents work near text-wrap objects
Currently, when text containing bulleted or numbered lists wraps around an object, all indents associated with the list settings are ignored (this might be related to tab settings, since those don't follow the wrap either). The typical workaround is to change the Text After to an en-space and add an "Indent to Here" character, but the en-space trick won't work for numbered lists and "Indent to Here" won't work if the text wrap edge is not perfectly straight vertical. See the attached screenshot for a demonstration based on real work I did yesterday. In order not to disrupt existing layouts,…
78 votesFix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign version - InDesign 2023. The fix should solve most of the issues that were seen earlier.
A new option "Honor Text Indents in addition to Text Wrap" is introduced in Preferences > Composition dialog. It is turned ON by default for new documents created in ID2023. For documents created in previous InDesign versions, this option is turned off by default - which can be turned ON to see the improved behavior.
Please let us know how the fix is working for you.

X + Y Location
We have the X and Y fields to get exact locations of objects. It would be nice to have a button that would copy BOTH the X and Y location, and then allow you to paste that location with an object selected.
This would be useful if you have several pages where a different logo (or copy) on each page needs to be in the same location. You could grab the X/Y location of the logo on the first page, then go to other pages and paste that X/Y location to make sure each logo on each page is in…

Add an option to the paragraph styles panel to view paragraphs sorted by the "based on" property.
Add an option to the paragraph styles panel to view paragraphs sorted by the "based on" property.
I'm thinking something visually like the way illustrator displays groups and groups within groups, on the layer panel.
This will save a great deal of time opening and closing paragraph style panels to find out which styles are based on others before you make an edit to one of them. Instead you will be able to near instantly tell which other styles will be affected by your change to one style.

Character styles applied to paragraphs apply to bullets as well
99.9% of the time I want bullets to match the text color. When changing the character color via the Paragraph Styles palette or when selecting the text and changing the color via the color palette, the bullets do just that. But when I select text and change the color via a character style, the bullets don't follow suit.
To give you an example of why this would be useful to me, one thing I often end up doing is creating two versions of something: one on a dark background, one on a light background. The only thing different between the…

paste without formatting
Shortcuts: I am saddened that the paste commands have been changed around. Paste Without Formatting has lost its shortcut status and replaced with Paste In Place (in line with Illustrator); Paste Into has become Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V (previously Paste In Place). This might make sense to align with Illustrator but I use the Paste Without Formatting option a lot of the time. The previous Paste Into (Ctrl+Alt+V Windows, Ctrl+Option+V Mac) now appears to be free - could this be the new Paste Without Formatting?

Text box on different place in PDF vs. InDesign doc
A colored text box moved 1,5mm from the position in InDesign-file to the position in the exported PDF. I had 8 versions of this file and in one it appeared on a different place in the PDF. When printing with only black plate changed, the the text was 1.5 mm lower in black. Is there a solution? Is this a bug? 80.000 printed pcs. to the trash and 4 new plates to solve the problem. Any help?

Add "Square" and "Cirlce" to the [Object>>Convert Shape] menu options
I use Object >> Convert Shape a lot. But with the existing options, if I want to convert to a square/circle I have to first convert to a rectangle/ellipse, then manually enter width and height dimensions to make them equal. Would be nice to skip that step and just have direct option to convert to square/circle.

A TOA is a table containing the name of all cases, statutes and other authorities used in the document and the page reference.
One complex is that the reference in the table may be slighly different from that in the text.
The table entry may look liked
ABC v. XYZ, 123 F.3d 456 (12th Cir. 1992) .... 4, 5, 10, 16

Improving table styles
Problems in the development of tables
Currently we have some drawbacks when it comes to automating as much as possible the application of the tables by using "table styles", this is because our tables have 4 different sectors (hotrizontals), unlike the possibility that Indesign offers only 3 types of rows "header rows", "footers rows" and "text rows". This, for the moment, we solve it in the following way: once we apply the style of table, we select the rows that we want to change and we apply by hand the "cell style".
One possible solution is that the "style of…31 votes -
