  1. Rotating a linear gradient used in paragraph shading

At the moment there is no level of control for rotating a linear gradient used in paragraph shading. Please add that functionality.

    Thanks, René

  2. Allow alignment of an object to two guidelines that I create, instead of to the page or other objects

When trying to align text or an object to a box or area that is not aligned to the center of the page - allow me to create guidelines (drag out from side of ruler) to the edges of the box or area and select the guidelines and the text or object and align the text or object to the center of the guidelines.

  3. Extended PDF export features

To add a custom preset feature where you could export a duplicate PDF with crop marks as well as a clean PDF all in one saving action. There is a lot of times in my line of work where we need both options (one for print and one for archiving) purposes. As of right now I have to export 2 files separately. Having a preset where I could just check the box when exporting would greatly save time and effort each time we go to export.

  4. Text Hotkey window tool

A windowed tool that allows you to assign "Hot keys" to font styles where you could quickly edit text on the fly. The text hot key tool would have an activated switch so when its on, it applies your hot keys and when its off everything goes back to normal. This would mostly be used for references where authors names are italicized, body copy is regular and numbers are bold. I know it is similar to the eye dropper tool except you would be able to edit all at once rather than have to go back to each style. The…

  5. trial

I have not been able to productively use the 7 day trial period due to my delayed preparations of the contents of a brochure design.
I would like to request a brand new 7 days credit to give Indesign a shot to accomplish my task.
    Very truly yours,
    I. Tok

  6. Live link Microsoft word documents when placed in InDesign

When working with lots of teams and writers in our organisation. the constant issue we run into is only a select group of people have InDesign and the experience to operate the files. If there was a way when placing word documents were linked into InDesign, this would allow for a much more fluid workflow when there are a lot of edits.

I am sure there are many limitations to this, but finding some sort of solution could make a big difference to creating quality documents that will allow non indesign users access. InCopy is not a viable option in…

  8. Allow Optical Margin Alignment to apply only to punctuation.

Optical Margin Alignment does a great job allowing quotation marks and hyphens to hang into the column gutters, but it also make characters like A, W, and T do the same, which is often too high a price to pay. Fix this by allowing an option it to only apply it to punctuation.

  9. Add swatch to default list for future use

When you create a swatch in colour picker and add it to swatches, give an option to "add to default" menu, so it forms part of the default set when you open a new document.

  10. Quick image adjustments in InDesign

Sometimes when creating a document I need to ever so slightly brighten the image or adjust the contrast, maybe increase the saturation; and standard workflow means pulling these up in Photoshop and applying the changes and the saving (often as a new file so as to preserve the original).

This always seems like alot of effort for something that I feel could be done on InDesigns side.

I am suggesting image quick adjustments.

So an image is coming out slightly too dark. No worries, right click, apply quick adjustments. A new tool box will open that will have basic image…

Thank you for voting for the feature request.
It will be helpful if you can add your responses for the below queries.

    1. In the absence of this feature in InDesign – how do you make these adjustments today?

    2. Once the image is imported into InDesign, what kind of adjustments do you mostly need?

    3. On an average, in a project, how many images need adjustments once they are imported into InDesign?

  11. Panel resizing when bottom of panel isn't visible

When working on a laptop and switching from external monitor to built-in display, I have less vertical pixel space. As a result, floating panels that were full-length on the external monitor are now too long for the laptop display. Unfortunately, there is no way to resize a floating panel when the bottom of a panel isn't visible.

  12. 'Even' and 'odd' pages from consecutive files in an InDesign book will not combine on a spread when exporting to PDF

When exporting a book with multiple InDesign files to PDF the last 'even' page from document 'x' needs to combine with the first 'odd' page of the next document on a spread.
So let's say document 1 is from page 1-6 and document 2 is from page 7 to page 50, pages 6 and 7 need to merge onto a spread when exporting to PDF. It will now make separate pages, while the pages from one and the same document do come out as spreads.

  13. Text Box Auto Size Type

I think we should have the ability to lock a text box so as we type in it, it automatically typesets the copy to always fit in the textbox.

  14. Enable surveys to be embedded in Publish Online documents.

It would be great, since many people use PublishOnline to generate newsletters and other similar types of documents that are sent to a large audience, to be able to input simple responsive forms (essentially surveys) of 1-5 questions that send answers back to a programmed space either within PublishOnline's dashboard or to a designated space. Or, allow us to embed suveymonkey javascript survey code somewhere so we can track it that way. I was recently asked if I could add a one question pulse survey to my newsletter I create with PublishOnline and can't find an easy solution without just…

  15. Several templates for a page / spread

The requirement is to add different templates to a page / spread.
It should be possible to simply combine templates independent of each other. Not based on etc...
The names of templates could then be displayed one beneath another in page list preview. To apply several templates, we could select them at once and drug and drop to the page list preview.
For example – one template for page numbers, another template for logo. Combining different logos and different colors of page numbers will then dramatically reduce the required template quantity.

  16. Bettter error handling. Stop resorting to hard crashes every time indesign encounters a problem.

Been using InDesign since it began. It completely/suddenly crashes/unexpectedly quits more than ANY program I have ever used. This has been well over a decade on more than a dozen totally different (mac) systems. Some versions have been more stable than others, but the program is consistently crash-happy.

I honestly don't mind that it has some issues—it does a lot and we ask a lot of it, I get it. But what I mind is how horrible it is at dealing with problems. Does it have to completely CRASH every time it gets confused? It's like it throws its hands…

  17. Table borders proxy: add "all"/"none" quick-select control; increase contrast of lines

To speed up formatting table borders, add a control in or near the proxy control (where you click on lines to select or deselect corresponding borders of the selected table region) to enable quickly selecting all of the borders or none of the borders.

Also, increase the contrast between the blue and gray colors used for the proxy lines as it is sometimes hard to tell the difference between them. Currently their values are almost identical (appx 60% black). Suggest lightening up the gray "unselected" color to 25-30% black.

  18. Snap-to status indicators

Add an indicator somewhere that's always visible that displays the current status of the Snap-to-Guides and Snap-to-Document-Grid controls. It could also act as the on/off switch for them.

Now there's no way to tell if the snap-to mode is engaged or not without either dragging something around to see if it snaps-to a guide or grid, or going into the View > Grids & Guides pull-down menu.

  19. Remember the view pages preference (alternate layout/vert/horiz) for documents

I go back and forth a lot working with documents with alternate layouts and those without. It would be helpful if the page view preference is saved along with the document instead of switching back and forth manually.

  20. Spelling & Grammer included in Preflight Report

Would it be possible to enhance the prelight report features to include spelling & grammar checks so you could go through the report with page numbers references instead of having to click through each misspelt word individually .... for long documents this is a real problem as a lot of the instances of acronyms and named places currently get picked up which are not actually misspelt words ...

Currently, this can be achieved with purchase of plugin suite from Mindstream - http://www.mindsteam.com/products/mindsuitepro/index.html
