1. Keyboard shortcut for inserting Unicode glyphs

   Accessibility and other forms of automated publishing require the correct Unicode glyphs.

   These glyphs include punctuation, math/science symbols, foreign language characters, and bullets/symbols. In 2000, Unicode became the default character set worldwide across the technology industries.

   But we have no way to easily insert these glyphs into InDesign layouts. For example, if I need the math multiplication symbol rather than a lower case "x", I need to either scroll through the glyph dialogue box, or know beforehand the symbol's codepoint 2715 and type it into the Unicode field in the glyph dialogue box.

   Too slow! Especially when you have to use a lot of these glyphs in a document.

   Word has a keyboard short that works beautifully:
   type the 4-5 digit codepoint for the symbol you need, followed by Alt+x and it will look back over the digits and replace them with the correct Unicode symbol. Takes less than a second to insert the Unicode glyph.

   InDesign needs this, too!

   Examples of some commonly Unicode codepoints are:
   Em-Dash U+2014
   Division (math) U+00F7
   Copyright U+00A9
   Black square bullet U+20A0
   Thumbs Up Emoji U+1F44D
   Summation (math) U+2211 and not the Greek language letter capital Sigma

2. import page range index marking from Ms Word

   As authors now pre-tag their index, before its get typeset in Indesign. But Indesign does not support page range tagging imported from Ms Word.
   Pl add this feature in Indesign, to save time and money.

3. Add unicode categories to the list of available GREP choices

   If you've ever had to write out a GREP code and weren't sure of the character, you can click on the @ to call up a list of known codes to choose from while in the find/change menu OR the GREP styles panel.
   However, there is a selection that is missing that GREP in InDesign is known to handle, and that is unicode categories:

   for example, if I type into the GREP find field - right now - the following code:
   \p{Zs}
   I know that InDesign's GREP will find all spaces except tabs and returns. However, this isn't an option available from the UI right now. My request is to include these unicode searches as part of the UI.

4. Add additional interactive options to the buttons and forms panel

   The buttons and forms panel (used for making interactive form elements for PDF) is missing several options that are available in Acrobat such as:
   * insert image button
   * insert date button
   * insert barcode button

6. Save Preferences

   For about 14/15 years I never had to reset preferences in InDesign.

   Since CC2017 it's more or less once a week.
   Colors disappearing.. panels blind or empty.. tools not working.. font now showing.
   Panels self increasing size...

   But it seems we have to deal with it, so we probably need a way to SAVE PREFERENCES.
   Save preferences in a moment everything work fine.. and restore it when (after just few days) nothing works anymore.

   Every time people have to reset preferences, they have to restore everything. UI colors, workspace, Application Frame (that mac users normally never use) Old Dialog way (the new are unusable and way too slow).

   Too many things to restore and too often.

7. Add Text Macros like in InCopy

   I create a lot of documents that have textual elements that are repetitive, like resumes that include a project description. When using MS Word, I use the Quick Parts functionality to capture that text and insert it whenever I need it.

   My company is just beginning to explore the InDesign/InCopy workflow, and I saw that InCopy has a feature much like Quick Parts, called Text Macros. I could really use this if it was implemented in InDesign as well. I have used Autocorrect for similar functionality, but I have never tried it with more than a few words at a time.

   I am guessing that more if more InDesign users were aware of this functionality, they would find it useful as well.

8. Quick change of tables column width and row height

   Please give us the ability to set column width and row height of a table in one step.

   Today I only can change one table column after the other if I want different column width. The same is true for table rows if I want different row height as well.

   With the script (AutoColumn) from Gerald Singelmann it’s possible to change at least all column width in one step. I didn’t found a script for row height till today.

   I attached a video (AutoColumn.mov.zip) where I demo the script and perhaps this explains it a little bit better.

   This script saved me tons of hours of manual work.

    Where "|" is a marker of separation of parts of words.

15. Allow alignment of an object to two guidelines that I create, instead of to the page or other objects

    When trying to align text or an object to a box or area that is not aligned to the center of the page - allow me to create guidelines (drag out from side of ruler) to the edges of the box or area and select the guidelines and the text or object and align the text or object to the center of the guidelines.

16. Extended PDF export features

    To add a custom preset feature where you could export a duplicate PDF with crop marks as well as a clean PDF all in one saving action. There is a lot of times in my line of work where we need both options (one for print and one for archiving) purposes. As of right now I have to export 2 files separately. Having a preset where I could just check the box when exporting would greatly save time and effort each time we go to export.

    A windowed tool that allows you to assign "Hot keys" to font styles where you could quickly edit text on the fly. The text hot key tool would have an activated switch so when its on, it applies your hot keys and when its off everything goes back to normal. This would mostly be used for references where authors names are italicized, body copy is regular and numbers are bold. I know it is similar to the eye dropper tool except you would be able to edit all at once rather than have to go back to each style. The right hand could select the text with the mouse and the other hand uses the hot key buttons to apply the change.

19. Live link Microsoft word documents when placed in InDesign

    When working with lots of teams and writers in our organisation. the constant issue we run into is only a select group of people have InDesign and the experience to operate the files. If there was a way when placing word documents were linked into InDesign, this would allow for a much more fluid workflow when there are a lot of edits.

    I am sure there are many limitations to this, but finding some sort of solution could make a big difference to creating quality documents that will allow non indesign users access. InCopy is not a viable option in the organisation.
