  1. Imported text linked to a document (like Word) where changes can be made and then automatically updated in indesign document

When importing text, we brake the link with the original textual content. I wish we could have the option to keep the imported text linked to its original document so that we can design while some of the content is being modified in a word processor and then updated like any other kind of link and without losing the applied styles.

  2. Bleed/Trim hazard for Margins

A Preflight-option that works like Bleed/Trim hazard but for margins and guides.

  3. Don't activate name field of a highlighted style on first click

Expected: I highlight several styles, click and drag them to the new position.
Actual: I highlight several styles, click, but the click activates the name field of the style I have clicked on, meaning I can't drag them. I need to click again outside the name field to deselect the field, then drag them.

This could be fixed by changing the behaviour slightly: activate the name field if you click on the text, but don't activate it if you click the blank space to the right of the name (allowing you to drag the order around on the first click).

  4. Absolute page numbers as a text variable

I propose adding "Absolute Page Number" as a text variable. Similar to Last Page Number, "Absolute Page Number" would allow the document creator to place the absolute page number of the layout onto a page while also using another page numbering system (sections, roman numerals, etc.).

With long documents now both being used in whole or separated into parts by clients, this would allow InDesign users to fulfill the issue of having a page carry two numbering schemes at the same time.

  5. hyphenation

Have an option in the settings to tern of hyphenations on start up. As a student the hyphens make the work look messy

  8. Bigger Icons

I really wish that this software was more user-friendly. The icons should be bigger and clearly labeled. Like the buttons at the self-checkout at the grocery store.

  9. Slug capabilities

When we set up a new indesign document for an ad or for a brochure, we incorporate slugs at the top and the bottom for tracking specs, revisions, and proofing. Our bottom slug has an internal proofing checklist that we don't like the client to see when we output for print or PDF. Before we can output we have to go into the document set up box and remove the slug at the bottom. Then we have to turn it back on when we get a revision. It would be extremely helpful if you could add slugs to the PDF…

  10. Manage Recent Files List - It's useless if you run a Book operation!

The Recent Files list gets FILLED UP with chapter files if I run a Book operation. All my other projects get pushed off the list, even though all I did was re-paginate a book. This makes the Recents list useless! Please fix this!

The Recent Files list MUST BE MANAGEABLE if it is to be useful. Files get "touched" for very trivial reasons, sometimes just to look at something in the file. This results in an almost random listing of Recents. Please understand how a Recents list can be useful -- don't just blindly list files by "changed date".

  11. Add "Blur" Panel (for all Elements like Boxes/Images/Groups) as in XD

There should be an easy and time saving option to blur (0-100%) any elements in InDesign – just like the possibilities in Adobe XD. Especially for creating great web designs this would be a big benefit (more possibilities, less time).

  13. Allow to add notes to footnotes!

As simple as the heading is to "allow to add notes to footnotes!"
Google Docs, has this option, and and causes problems when importing them with the notes into InDesign, same applies when using DocaFlow

  14. Black only crops

When printing or exporting to a pdf file for print, can we have an option of black only crop marks. The reason is when we print to our Xerox Igen 4 and there is a mixture of color and black and white pages, the pages with just black text register as color because of the registration colored crop marks and on large runs it can add up to a lot of money. Thank you.

  15. Angled text in table cells

In Cell styles, please let us nominate the angle of the text, don't limit us to the up/down left/right options currently available. I want to put in 45° text.

  16. FINDING AND HIGHLIGHTING DOCUMENTS IN THE BOOK PANEL.

    Hi

I have a long document, each page sets to one document file (e.g. 200 pages equal 200 documents in the Book Panel!). Each book file has own title, some titles are short and some longer.

Finding documents by their own name is necessary for me through this long list and finding by scroll down and up to find a specific document is time-wasting, boring task.

I didn’t find any features in the Book Panel pop-up menu. Do you know any tricks to find a document by its own title among the many documents in the Book panel?

    Also, some…

  17. Importing .fdf files for Importing PDF Comments

Thanks for your implementation of Importing PDF comments, this is definitely a game changer and the future of Print Production in the industry. One question I have is why are we unable to import the .fdf file with the comments from our PDFs straight into InDesign? When working on old PDFs made in 2018 or older we then have to make a new PDF in 2019 and apply those comments to that PDF and it feels like unnecessary hassle. Could the .fdf file created when exporting the comments in Acrobat just not be imported straight into InDesign instead?

  18. Show Preview whole Indesign Book

When working in an Indesign Book, I can work on individual Indesign documents. But when I need an overview of the whole Book, to check concistency in Lay-out, Design, colours etcetera, I have to export a Pdf everytime when pages are re-designed. That is pretty annoying. I would like to see a Lay-out preview of all pages in a fast way by just "flipping a switch" on or off as if all pages were in one document.

  19. Load multiple swatches

The lack of ability to load multiple swatches in one go in Indesign is frustrating. Having to do it one at a time is counter intuitive and time consuming.

  20. Temporarily disable GREP styles

I'm working on a long document that uses GREP Styles. the applied styles only change the colour of text, so they don’t affect the flow of text. But they sure do slow down the program. I would like to be able to disable the GREP Styles in the paragraph style to speed up the program. The only way to disable GREP Styles is to remove them from the style definition. I duplicated the style to keep a backup of my GREP expressions, but what would be better is a way to individually disable the styles while keeping the expression in…
