  1. Visual indicator RGB print document - large format inkjet printing AND easier creation of RGB doc

Making it easier to have an RGB file for printing to a large format inkjet?
(only saying inkjet made me think of a consumer product).

Current option for creating a document is for presswork --
Have to change the transparency blend space to RGB to take advantage of the larger color space available with the extra inks there.

    MAYBE
The top bar that is above the document frame (has the home button in the corner) Can that be a different color to indicate if you are in a CMYK or RGB blend space?

You already know the color issues if…

  2. When doing Edit –> Edit With, any associated endnotes story should open along with the story targeted for editing

This would be valuable because using this pathway, Edit -> Edit With, is a great workflow component for those like me who like to use InCopy for general editing of text; but because endnote text is in a different story to endnote reference markers, anyone using such a workflow cannot add endnotes to the text without switching back to InDesign.

  3. Can we get Tab Order in a bigger window please? Or at least one that can expand.

Setting the Tab Order is very tedious but being in that tiny window makes it a real pain at times. Especially when you're creating interactive forms with literally hundreds of boxes.

  4. Turn off Touchscreen Workspace permanently! Or allow Users to!

Can Adobe PLEASE stop making the Touch workspace compulsory every time the app launches. Not all users want this. We didn't ask Adobe to turn off our usual interface and replace it with a Touch version.

When we have to go through the mandatory 'hey look at this new example - now click get started' EVERY TIME just to get into the app, only to have to then turn it off by choosing "essentials" (top right) again EVERY TIME we launch the app, it becomes a major pain.

Who on earth at Adobe throught this would be a good idea?…

  6. drag and drop .indd file into book panel

Whenever I add the .indd document to the book panel, I need to add each file via finder. At this time, if the target files are located in several different folders, I have to do several iterations. drag and drop features will reduce this repetitive work.

  7. Rename “Master Pages” to “Parent Pages”

The quote below is from the 30 Aug 2020 Washington Post. My request is to stop using the word “master” in InDesign and change to “parent/child” or another set of neutral terms.

“After the police killing of George Floyd, overdue conversations about race started happening.... Computer- and photography-related groups discussed doing away with problematic technical terms like “master” and “*****” that have long been used to refer to components that control others.“

EDIT: The asterisks in the WaPo quote were put in place by the forum interface, not by me. IMHO, this confirms my point.

  8. Accessibility Facilitate workload & Preview mode for barriers

For large projects, for example we are currently working on 46 brochures for a redesign, it would be more economical if the workload for accessible PDFs would be significantly lower. We have to split the production due to the high effort (creating all formats, meta descriptions with SEO incorporation, creating articles, alt texts, etc.) and can only produce fully accessible for the next production. This is a great pity, but not possible otherwise due to the tight project schedule.

It would be great if the articles resulted from the formats or an assignment via drag & drop (or as in…

  11. smart tabs

Suppose I have a document with a table laid out in it. I don't want to use a table, instead I go to a tabbed list so I can save some space. What I would want is the option to left justify the first column, right justify the last column, and distribute the other columns so that each tab has the exact same width in that row without having to manually space them out.

  12. Option to customize the angle of the stroke cap

It would be nice if we can determine the angle of the stroke cap instead of the default 90°, a simple option that would let you customize it to make sharp caps. I've made a simulation using forms to illustrate what I meant. A nice workaround that you should implement is the basic “outline stroke” feature that exists on Illustrator.

  13. Preserve Formatting Pasting text from CC Apps

I just did a nutritional label in ai and linked it to an indesign project, but wanted it to be more flexible using Indesign's text frames. As you know, nutritional labels require a TON of font size and weight variances so it really threw me for a loop that I couldn't retain all the formatting I had done when I pasted the text into indesign. Ruined my day sigh

  14. Edit ALL gaps in a selection.

It would be super helpful if you could edit ALL the gaps in a selection of objects with the gap tool, so matter the layout. See attached example of boxes – would be amazing is you could select and edit all gaps with the gap tool, perhaps with a new keyboard shortcut? That is all, thanks in advance! Anders

  16. Incremental measurement entries in Character Stylesheets

Would be great to have a way of adding incremental values to properties in a character style.

In other words instead of setting a character style that has +20 tracking and is 9pt on 12pt leading, you would be able to set it so it is ++20 tracking (whatever the paragraph tracking is plus 20) and --1pt size (whatever the paragraph font size is minus 1pt) on --2pt leading (whatever the paragraph leading is minus 1pt) .

Percentages would also be great and even better if we can reference other properties (ie leading is 130% of font size).

    Usage cases:…

  17. Multiple footnotes using different numbering schemes

Sometimes an author would like to only have footnotes, but use one set for explanations and comments, and another set for source references. This isn't possible, but would be very useful for indie authors wishing to create complex books.

  18. Working with multiple files - When a file is closed, rather than skipping to the last file, got to the next file in order

    Description:

I have multiple files open at once.

When finished working on the first, if I close it, InDesign will skip to the last file that was opened, rather the next file in the order.

See attached - I closed “untitled 1” and it skipped to “untitled 5” rather than going to “untitled 2” which is next in line.

    Why this would be valuable:

This interrupts an expected workflow to InDesign's usual left to right UI direction.

InDesign allows users to reorder the file tabs to suit their needs. Skipping to the end file in unexpected behaviour and switching back…

  20. User-definable colors for highlighting H&J Violations

With checked Preferences / Composition / Highlight H&J Violations, the default colors for highlighting them (against paper background) are yellow and violet, plus some shades of them. As I seem to have some trouble in visually identifying those colors when present as light shades, I’d like to be able to modify them in order to work better for me. Thank you :-)
