heic
When importing HEIC image files, the orientation of the picture stored in the metadata is being ignored. This is very annoying, since one has to rotate the image manually each time this is imported.

Page tool causes layout shifts on parent pages
When the Page Tool is used to resize parent (master) pages, unwanted shifts of page items may occur. These can occur directly in the document or also after an IDML export. Whereby with the IDML export the order of the sample pages plays a role
Concrete example: When the right bottom corner of the Page Tool is selected and the page size is changed, a position mismatch occurs on the inherited master page.
It is expected that on master pages of the same size the position of objects and inherited object is the same.
This does not occur if the upper left corner of the Page tool is used when resizing.
You can see this also in the different matixes of the inner coordinate system of the master pages.
Resize master page in UI – top left corner selected:
app.activeDocument.masterSpreads[0].pages[0].resolve(AnchorPoint.TOPLEFTANCHOR,CoordinateSpaces.INNER_COORDINATES)[0];
› 0.0Resize master page in UI – bottom right corner selected:

› 28.3464566929137.48.1889763764252After the IDML export, guides are also partially displaced. See attached screenshots. Whereby here also the order of the sample pages in the page panel plays a role, thus:

InDesign incorrect font.version when SUBSTITUED
In an InDesign document when a font.status is SUBSTITUED, both the xmpTPg:Fonts/Resource/stFnt:versionString and also font.version property show the value of the font which is used by InDesign for the substitute font, and not the original (now missing) font version.
As anyone who has worked with font purchasing knows, the font version is extremely important. Both because of licensing reasons (previously purchased font licenses for font versions may need to be repurchased with newer versions), and also because even in a font produced by the same foundry or designer, a minor version change can include optical differences, spacing differences causing text reflow, overset text and glyph errors.
Here's an example
1) Open the attached document into Adobe InDesign
2) In the top dropdown menu, go to Type > Find/Replace Fonts
3) In the Find/Replace Fonts listing there is only one font and it is missing/substituted, SharpGroteskBook22
4) In the Find/Replace Fonts listing for the font in the “More Info” area the version is correctly shown as “Version 1.003”
5) However, when showing the properties of this font in Visual Studio Code Adobe Extendscript debugger the font.version for this font is incorrectly shown as: "version: 17.0d1e1" (see screenshot)
6) Also when viewing the metadata for the document in the File > File Info > Raw fonts xmpTPg:Fonts object, the versionString is incorrectly shown as “SharpGroteskBook2217.0d1e1” (see screenshot)I am considering this behavior to be a bug.
In my opinion there is no value which is gained from InDesign having the font.version of a totally different font which is only being used to substitute a font which is not found.
Why does the font.version property not continue to return the value of the font when it was INSTALLED?
The data is not entirely missing. There is a location in InDesign which contains the accurate font version for a font which is font.status = SUBSTITUTED, and that is in the InDesign UI Fonts > Find/Replace Fonts menu, More Info area. I need a way to be able to retrieve that accurate data via scripting.
InDesign and InDesign Server versions 2023, 2022, 2020 etc.

Red shapes appear on Indesign Pages
• Indesign 18.3 (but problem has persisted from earlier versions)
• Mac Book Pro with M1 Max running Ventura 13.4.1 (but problem has persisted from earlier versions)This bug has persisted since I upgraded to my current MacBook. When dealing with (usually large) documents, strange red shapes appear on the pages in . Zooming in or out or changing the view or Display Performance settings can get them to disappear, but they eventually return. They are not actual objects and I have not had any issues with crashes or with the resulting files. See the attached screen shot for an example of the glitch.

Export PDF is crashing PAC checker due to font issue
Since version 18.4, sometimes the embedding of specific fonts is causing PAC to get a system error. I know this because I sent my file to Axaio (made-to-tag) when I couldn't figure out why PAC was not working. They told me this started happening since version 18.4, which has something to do with fonts. They suggested finding a TrueType version of the font to get around this bug or download 18.3. I use Indesign all the time and need this bug to be fixed.
3 votesThe fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2024(v19.5.0.084). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

Gradient Panel and Color Panel missing all options
After using InDesign 18.5 for some time the options for adjusting color in the Color Panel and Gradient Panel go away. This can be fixed by resetting the user preferences/settings (hold shift/cntrl/option/command while opening Indesign). This fix is only temporary and eventually the options disappear again. This is driving me nuts!

Share for Review is very buggy
In InDesign lately when I Share for Review the following things happen often:
1. InDesign thinks that the document I've shared (and for which I've received feedback) is NOT shared. I know it is.
2. I can no longer highlight a comment and copy it to paste it into the actual document.
3. When I click on a comment it will take me to a page/spread but there's no pin/highlighted text/etc. to inform me where on the spread the change needs to be implemented.
4. I get a message that InDesign "cannot load comments" no matter how many times or different points in the day I click on "Retry."In InDesign lately when I Share for Review the following things happen often:

Bulleted and numbered lists, "Restart Numbers at This Level After:" behavior is not consistent
- create a document with "Bulleted and numbered lists" and List Type "Numbers" * There are 3 types of headings and 3 levels.
- set the levels so that each heading is renumbered according to the higher level heading. 3.
- re-set the numbering style to "none" or remove "^#" from the "Number" to indicate numbering
- the numbers are no longer re-numbered.
Workaround: set Mode to "Start At: 1" instead of "Continue from Previous Number
I had quite a bit of trouble finding a workaround. Also, it is often the case that the higher levels do not want to display numbers, so the behavior should be consistent.

Crop tool namings for german version are irritating
A view months ago I was posting this issue to the community board already. :-) Thanks to Mr. Tyson for directing me to this page here:
Dear InDesign team,
please take a look on https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/placing-graphics.html
The assistance describes the differences between the three boxes named "crop", "trim" and "bleed".Well, in English there is no mistake if I'm going to import a PDF into my InDesign document, e.g. I'd like to display the final cutted format, than I choose for "Trim" or if I need to prepare a page for professional print shops than choosing "Bleed".
But in the german edition the namings seem to be inconsequent. In comparison with the Acrobat Crop Tools and the InDesign Import Options
"T r i m" should be the counterpart to "E n d f o r m a t" or "Z u s c h n i t t"
while "A n s c h n i t t" seems to be the correct interpretation of "B l e e d".
Accordingly, "C r o p" would be referred to the german word "B e s c h n i t t ".The best woud be, if you replace the german wording of the InDesign "import options" as seen on the following screenshot.
And for example: an imported PDF with varius import options.
Thanks for listening.

Align panel issues
I'm using v 18.3 on mac.
My align panel isn't completely viewable and looks different that it ever has before. The normal options are gone. Also, in the top toolbar, the align tools only show up when I try to align objects. The tools don't appear when I attempt to align text boxes.
I've attached a screenshot showing how the toolbar has always looked when I've selected assets to align, one showing how those options are gone unless I'm aligning objects, and a final one of the align panel. This has been very frustrating.

anchored object ignores textwrap of the first line
When anchoring an Object in a text and selecting the object to wrap around the text, the first line ignores this command.
When searching for a solution, i stumbled upon this entry describing the problem.the only solution seems to be to anchor the text in a previous line.
However, I want my textanchor to be on the right spot, so a screenreader can read it correctly - so anchoring it one line above is no option for me.
Is there a fix to this problem?3 votes -
RTL options dissappeared in Indesign 18.3
Indesign 18.3 - Hebrew support edition.
Steps to reproduce the issues: Choose a text box, and try to set RTL. THERE IS NO RTL button! (Indesign 17.x had RTL and LTR buttons. But after upgrade to Indesign 18.3 - the RTL button dissappeared!)
Expected result: Should have RTL buttons just like Indesign 17.x
Actual result: Missing RTL buttons.

Hover Scrolling Disabling
PLEASE introduce an option to disable hover scrolling on selection. If I have selected a text box and want to scroll down to align options in Properties, I always end up changing the leading, language, font, etc. I don't know anyone that would want to use hover scrolling to make those changes. Maybe click and drag like the other apps would work. Please look into this issues as it has been years and this has not been fixed.

Words in placed document become bold after certain characters
When we place text from a Word file, we always strip it of all existing layout. But for some reason there are some weird unicode characters that cause Indesign to make certain words bold... I'm not able to figure out why... you have a French text where a word starts with a e with an accent like ê and that word is suddely bold... even though in the Word file it isn't.
This also happens with Italics... I once had a text that used transliteration for Ancient Egyptian that is in italic and often starts with a "Ankh" symbol: Ꜥ with the full hiëroglyph being translated as: Ꜥ-n-ḫ.
Indesign will flip out on this... in the end we had to replace all the Ankh symbols for @ symbols, place the text to Indeisgn and switch them back.
Also had it once for Greek text, where words randomly become bold or italic after you place them in Indesign.
When these symbols are in the middle of words, it's fine, but when words start with these symbols, weird stuff tends to happen when you place them in Indesign. Has been doing that for years. It's weird.

font menu scroll is jumpy and unresponsive on M1 MBP 16" / MacOS 13
Bug: Scrolling the font menu in indesign is jumpy and somewhat unresponsive at times on M1 MacBook Pro / MacOS 13.
It's hard to illustrate with video recording, so I do hope you test this.

Adjust Layout Options - retain object adjustment but lock ruler guides in place
When ruler guides are locked and the option to adjust locked content is deselected, the guides still move proportional to the margins. There needs to be an option to treat ruler guides as objects are treated, where it's possible to actually lock the ruler guides in place while still utilizing Adjust Layout.
