Generic check mark reappears in PDF check box after exporting to Acrobat Pro
InDesign 14.0.2 and Acrobat Continuous 2019.10.20099
This issue is about the behavior and appearance of interactive check boxes in documents that have been exported to Interactive PDFs.
There is a difference in the way that check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear versus those created in Acrobat Pro. The Acrobat Pro Forms preferences are involved in this difference.
When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.
When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign. When you tab to or select another check box, or when you save the selection in the PDF, the appearance of the check box reverts to a default generic check mark.
When, in Acrobat Pro Forms Preferences, under Highlight Color, the “Show border hover color for fields” option is not selected, check boxes created in InDesign behave and appear in the following manner.
When a check box is made active, it first appears the same as the check box that was created in InDesign and remains as such.
This degrades the purpose of using the highlighted fields, which is to call attention to fields that need to be filled.
When the check boxes are created in Acrobat, it makes no difference in appearance or behavior if the “Show border hover color for fields” is selected or not. They always appear as the checkbox style you have chosen to use. They do not revert to a generic check mark.
This is the way that custom check boxes created in InDesign should behave. Thus, they would allow the use of a highlighted field without the appearance of the “selected” custom graphic changing to an unwanted generic graphic.

Ligatures
I loaded the Adobe InDesign CC Ap from Creative cloud, version 14.0.2 x64. The file I had used before now has missing text! Specifically the "fl" in the Active Ingredients list "Isoxaflutole" which now appears as Isoxa utole" throughout the whole book with empty space for the "fl". Even the word "flowables" appears as " owables".
The file seems to have "Ligatures" checked in the character palette which I did not check. I'm using Helvetica fonts.
Any suggestion as to how to get my text back? See attached files.1 vote -

When you import a table into InDesign, if you have -100% in a cell it will show up as a blank cell.

Adding htmlItem then closing document crashes inDesign on Mac
We are developping a plugin for inDesign and while testing a new feature on a Mac we noticed that sometimes InDesign was crashing. We managed to reproduce this bug in a very simple indesign script that make inDesign crash 100% of the time and I'm looking for a way to get around this inDesign bug.
The crash occurs when we programatically add an htmlItem to a pageItem then close the document too quicky, It's only on Mac, doing that on windows works perfectly. The crash error seems to be a memory usage problem on inDesign's side.
Here is the script code :
var document = app.activeDocument;
var sourcePageItem = document.allPageItems[0];sourcePageItem.htmlItems.add(
document.activeLayer,
LocationOptions.AT_END,
sourcePageItem,
{
geometricBounds: sourcePageItem.geometricBounds,
htmlContent: '<b>Hello</b>',
}
);document.close(SaveOptions.NO);
other observations :
-Doing a sourcePageItem.htmlItems[0].remove(); to remove the htmlItem after adding it doesn't change anything, so the problem comes from using the function htmlItems.add() and not having an htmlItem in the document.
-Delaying the close by using $.sleep(5000) before fix the crash, but we can't rely on it as the delay needed increase with the number of htmlItems added and it might be different from a computer to another due to performances.
-Saving the document or not doesn't change anythingI've added my clean document with just a rectangle frame, the script and the crash report on this url : https://we.tl/t-uFpX658s0o since we can't add an indeed file to the post
If there is no way to fix it, do you have an idea to get around this inDesign bug ?

InDesign files from CC to CS6 - hypenation won't work anymore
In advance:
- Our external writers send us InDesign CC files (idml and indd)
- We open and save them in InDesign CS6
- Our customers use InDesign CS6Version:
InDesign CS6 8.0
InDesign CC from 12.0 to 14.0.2 (others not tested)Steps:
Since when: between 10 and 17. April 2019 (last time it worked on 10. April 2019)
2.a Open InDesign CC (any version, i tested 12.0, 13.1, 14.0.1 and 14.0.2)
2.b Save a file with activated hypenation (either indd or idml, both tested)
2.c Open either one of 2.b. in CS6Expected result:
Hypenation works as usual in CS6. Text fits frames.Actual result:
Hypenation doesn't work in CS6 which resluts in text frames having overflow
Test files and information:
Already tested:de- and reactivating hypenation in CS6
checking for "no break" option
checking every used paragraph- and character-format
checking user dictionary options
checking language options
checking autocorrection options
saved the file as idml and indd in CC 12.0, 13.1, 14.0.1, 14.0.2 and then opened it in CS6

Mp4 not work at "Place from URL" Option
I have place mp4 files from "Place from URL" option in the document and its place nicely when I have prepared epub and publish online then doc display empty page after discussion with adobe they told me that mp4 not compatible, so i have to convert video in FLV extension then it will work, which is impossible for me. MP4 is most useful extension and Adobe need to solve this and make mp4 compatible for it.
Keep in Mind when we place from "Place from URL" Not direct placing of MP4 file, "Place form URL" Option.
Thanks!

PDF-export: Small images (icons) seem corrupt on right side when compression is on
Indesign: 14.0.2. x64
Acrobat: 2019.010.20100Win 10 pro x64, 1809 up to date
So small images look strange and you can see they appear corrupt on the right side. In the last 15 years I have never experienced an issue like this so I would like to know if this is an ordinary behaviour which I ran into by chance or bad luck.
The used image is a scaled down image of a rather small photoshop-file.
At first I thought my guides might cut the images, but they don´t. I worked on the .PSD file, I increased the size of the image containers/frames, which took me over an hour of wasted time and thus: money - before I realized the PDF-export might be the problem.
A regular day of work with Adobe apps I guess. grml.But: it might be a regular behaviour caused by the combination of file and the way the recompression works.
Image bug1 shows what it looks like in the indesign doc, as u can see with enlarged outer frame box.
Image bug2 shows what it looks like after PDF export. You can see it is not right when printed too, so it is not a bug of representation.
Image bug3 shows the PDF settings I use since I can think of for print files.Sorry I can´t show larger images as I am not allowed to show content by contract.
Unfortunately I have no time to try multiple scenarios or (compression) settings so in this case we just deal with a bigger file size.
Thanks for your time and maybe feedback!

boxes in all control panels can not be activaded
In every control panel (no matter where) text or values in the boxes can not be activated. To enter new values or text, I have to delete each letter individually, forwards or backwards. This is very annoying.
When will this bug finally be fixed?1 vote -
Cross reference formats
Indesign 13.1, Windows
When editing a cross reference format there is a button to insert special characters such as "opening simple quotation mark" and "closing simple quotation mark" which should look like ,this'. Instead, the resulting opening character is an asterisk (*) and the closing character is a plus (+) -> *this+1 vote -

storing files on desktop
Not an idea, but a problem...InDesign support is telling me that I need to store my customer's book (a catalog) on my desktop AND all the associated images...that's impossible...there are over 1300 images in this 180 page book.
ID crashed three consecutive times today trying to open the book to change the dates which appear on the master pages...I'm using the most updated version of creative cloud in a windows 10 environment...
Any ideas of how to fix this? InDesign seems like a very unstable software to have come from a premier (and premium) software company like Adobe.1 voteTo identify the cause of this issue, we had started our investigation with the aim to resolve it. You might have also received email from us seeking more details to help in our investigation.
We’ve concluded our investigation and came up with the finding : Either the issue is fixed in the latest release of InDesign or the issue was intermittent in nature at the time of its reporting and is not reproducible now.
We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of InDesign 2020.0.1 (if you’re not already on it). It contains a lot of stability fixes.
If you still face this issue even after updating to the latest version of InDesign, please submit the crash report to us. (The guidelines to submit crash are available at (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html)
We seek your support in our continual effort to improve InDesign.
