Problem with changing the cursor to text
Hello. After running the latest version of InDesign CC 2019 v. 14.0, I have a problem with changing the cursor to text. It takes about 50 seconds. This happens each time you launch InDesign.
Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while.
This issue is now fixed in the latest update (Id 14.0.1) of InDesign CC.
If you are unable to see the update notification yet, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right of Creative Cloud desktop application and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.
Once the update button is shown against InDesign CC, click on the button to update your InDesign to Id 14.0.1 for the fix of the issue.
Do let us know in the comments, if you face any problem with the new update.
List of fixed issues can be found at: helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/fixed-issues.html

I echo Uwe Laubender’s comment. It's the Document Fonts folder. If you remove or rename the folder, the problem goes away. Bad workaround. This is a bug that the indd team needs to fix on their end.

This issue is ONGOING and is in my 20 years of experience the most difficult InDesign problem ever and completely interrupts workflow. Also as an educator, I'm finding it necessary to have empathy for students that just cannot seem to understand what's going on!
I'm running InDesign 15.1.2 BTW

Sorry, but this is NOT fixed. I just updated InDesign this week, even when I press "T" to activate the text tool, the tool icon does not show it, and the text tool cursor disappears after a few seconds. The whole program is laggy with type now and is extremely frustrating. This needs your attention please. Thank you.

Dear Adobe,
You get loads of money for this "program", so would You please be so kind as to fix this massive problem instead of merely claiming having it solved?

As other recent comments state: this is still an issue with 15.1.1.
Activating the text box and clicking within it to change to text cursor causes a significant lag, to the point of being unusable.
I had to downgrade to 14 to avoid this.

Hi Abhinav,
maybe that this particular issue is fixed with InDesign CC 2019 version 14.0.1.But: With InDesign 2020 version 15.0.2 and on to the current version 15.1.1.103 I also see a delay when switching tools to the Type Tool. A delay of about 3 to 5 seconds. Sometimes only one second. It seems that this only happens with documents that use a Document fonts folder to get the needed and used fonts.
The problem goes away if I move the Document fonts folder to the InDesign Fonts folder in the Application folder. But this is only a workaround, no real solution.
Regards,
Uwe Laubender

Simply marking an issue as fixed/resolved does not fix the issue. The only way to work with InDesign is to disconnect my computer from WiFi/internet. No other Adobe tool or software e.g. Axure requires this so it is clearly an INDESIGN issue and I can find dozens of topics on here where you have closed the issue without resolving it. I remember this issue from years ago and encounter it every time I have the misfortune of having to use Indesign. It's truly shocking your QA team consistently misses it. Perhaps check in with the AdobeXD team to see how they respond to bugs.

An idea, that seems to work for me, I had an older file, and when opened, type tool shortcut switches immediately to selection tool, so I exported that file as idml file, and it seems to be ok for now. Hope this helps someone until adobe fixes it.
And, this happens only with older files, as if older files and updated versions of indesign do not work good together. -Unfortunately, i was quick to share, it does not work :(

I am currently having this issue in InDesign v 15.0.2 (the latest update). It takes about 10-15 seconds to switch to type tool and lags when typing. I cant switch to the type tool using the shortcut either as it keeps reverting back to the selection tool. This problem persists even after using the software for a long period of time. Help please!

I am having this very issue right now. When the text tool is selected, either with mouse or shortcut, it keeps bouncing back to the selection tool. Also, when I am able to get it to stay, it takes awhile for the cursor to pop in to the selected text black to make changes. I'm running 15.0.2 fully updated. Help please.

A suggestion to other users: It's possible that the issue might receive more attention if you voted for and commented on this more recent thread:

Has this issue been addressed yet? I'm working on ID 15.0.1 and I'm having the same issue as described in the initial post. Please advise.
Weirdly enough, I'm able to drag points within a path using the "Direct Selection Tool" but as soon as I switch to the "Selection Tool" I cannot drag anything.
