Proportional Scaling Using Shift Button Not Working
In the 2017.1 release of InDesign, the ability to hold Shift and scale objects proportionally seems to have disappeared. I know for me this is a major functionality problem that is increasing the time I have to spend on current projects. I've checked support forums and others are encountering this problem, but I haven't yet seen a solution.
Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while; we really appreciate your support!
Our investigation suggests that one of common reasons for the problem is that certain software (mostly antivirus and other security applications) and browser extensions happen to enable “Secure Keyboard Entry” on Mac machines due to which some keys such as Shift key in this case do not perform the desired action in InDesign.
For now I request you to follow the below provided KB doc for the quick workaround of the problem.
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/features-do-not-work-keyboard-keys-mac.html
In the comments section many of the users have confirmed that disabling Webroot SecureAnywhere (a security app) has resolved the issue for them. Please note that, the problem may not be related to a particular software; there could be a different application or antivirus which might be causing the problem by enabling Secure Keyboard Entry on Mac.

FYI, I found the culprit to be Last Pass password keeper extension installed on Safari. Uninstalling the software by opening safari> click preferences> click Extensions tab> Last Pass, then click uninstall.

Had the same problem when I was holding CMD + SHIFT to proportionally scale down text and my solution was to turn off Optical Kerning and turn on Metrics Kerning. Hope that helps.

WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED!!!???? Frustrated doesn't even come close to summing up the fury I have. I can't troubleshoot all of these random "fixes" for hours every time I use Indesign. I don't have security software, shutting down everything and restarting doesn't work. @Adobe ADMIN - can you please provide an update? I've been working in Indesign for 15 years and this has never happened before!!

Has anyone found the cure for this? I still can not use my shift key.

This issue is still happening and is incredibly frustrating.
I do not have security software running so the proposed solution doesn't work, at least not for a lot of cases.
I also know that Secure Keyboard Entry is not enabled because I can check that via Terminal and see that it isn't.
And this issue has randomly started recently.
I've been trying various suggestions below and no luck.
This is beyond frustrating and must be fixed permanently with a proper solution that works for all cases because this is a very basic feature that is necessary!

Just happened to me and the fix for me was going to WINDOW>WORKSPACE>RESET ESSENTIALS. Now the shift key works!

This is a basic function that MUST work.
I purchased CC specifically for speed & functionality - this makes ID a nearly non-functional waste of time & money.

I have tried everything listed here, this is an annoyingly stupid bug in CC. Even if you hold down the proportional keys, after you release, the image jumps to being not proportional and warped. I've also shut off basically all my system shortcuts, nothing works. This slows us all down so much! At first I thought it was bc I'm at a new job, new machine, no external keyboard to my MacBook Pro, but after adjusting all settings... nope. So tired of Adobe's bugs, do your developers actually use the software on a daily basis to notice these things? It's always something, then they come out with a new version again. ADOBE PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!

For me, the culprit was 1Password. If the main app is open, it'll cause this issue. However 1Password mini (in the menu bar) doesn't cause the issue.

Toggled the snap options on/off a few times under view and it started working again. Did it in illustrator but it changed it for me in all adobe programs.

Bump. Still happening; not using security software on my Mac.

Interestingly, a simple reboot of my Mac cleared the problem for me... no idea why this was happening, but give it a shot.

Hello All,
Some of the recent comments have mentioned that they don't have such antivirus install which would enable 'Secure Keyboard Entry'. Please note that the problem may not be specifically due to antivirus, instead it can also be triggered by browser extension as well. For trial purpose, you may try to disable such extensions in your browser, close the browser and try working with InDesign again.
Some of us have mentioned that on "closing everything" the problem got resolved. It suggests that some of the applications may trigger Secure Keyboard Entry in the background and when those apps gets closed the problem gets resolved.

This is way to basic a requirement to have a bug, please repair.

I had to close out of everything and restart my computer/programs and it worked again.

This problem was posted already and marked solved, but the resolution is not correct. (https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/31495999-proportional-scaling-using-shift-button-not-workin?page=5&per_page=20#{toggle_previous_statuses})
The ability to scale containers proportionally, and to scale containers proportionally while also scaling the contents, is no longer working in current InDesign CC version.
I am not running any antivirus software or other programs that would conflict, as the previous answer suggested.
Please advise ASAP as losing this functionality is really effecting my working time.

I'm not the only one! I am running no conflicting software. How can this not be working; it is a serious hindrance to my work.
Adobe, can we have an update on when this will be fixed please?
