Proportional Scaling Using Shift Button Not Working
In the 2017.1 release of InDesign, the ability to hold Shift and scale objects proportionally seems to have disappeared. I know for me this is a major functionality problem that is increasing the time I have to spend on current projects. I've checked support forums and others are encountering this problem, but I haven't yet seen a solution.
Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while; we really appreciate your support!
Our investigation suggests that one of common reasons for the problem is that certain software (mostly antivirus and other security applications) and browser extensions happen to enable “Secure Keyboard Entry” on Mac machines due to which some keys such as Shift key in this case do not perform the desired action in InDesign.
For now I request you to follow the below provided KB doc for the quick workaround of the problem.
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/features-do-not-work-keyboard-keys-mac.html
In the comments section many of the users have confirmed that disabling Webroot SecureAnywhere (a security app) has resolved the issue for them. Please note that, the problem may not be related to a particular software; there could be a different application or antivirus which might be causing the problem by enabling Secure Keyboard Entry on Mac.

My advise: turn off third party apps one-by-one and test if the shift key works again. In our case it worked for both InDesign and Illustrator. Of course Adobe should resolve it.

This is what we found: We have 4 computers 3x late 2009 macbook pro and 1x MacBookPro11,2. With the old macs we had the same problem as described above, with the newer scaling works fine. This morning antivirussoftware was installed. When we disabled that, the problem was not there anymore.

I was just having this problem with InDesign today. I had Photoshop, Illustrator, Mac Mail, Safari and The Amazon Music Player app open.
I closed down everything except InDesign and it works perfectly now.
Maybe it's one of those apps?

Same problem here too! Please fix, so frustrating. Other key commands don't work too, like holding down shift as you're moving a box to keep it in line, or using the space bar for the hand tool to move around the page.

Hi, has anyone found a solution to this yet? It is still happening to me... I have uninstalled and reinstalled without importing preferences and it didn't fix it. Really annoying!

Looking for a solution as well... sometimes restart works, sometimes it doesn't, the problem reoccurs. I can't find an extension causing it. But shift for ANYTHING isn't working. Not for proportion constraining, not for drawing a straight line, not for direct select. VERY FRUSTRATING.

Same problem here. Shortcuts not working. Very annoying. Cleared preferences, reinstalled InDesign CC, etc. to no avail.

Stop the Bs: It is not a problem of third party Programm, as the previous version worked. Adobe should very well know where they wanted to turn around the macos api in the new version, and should also be able to fix it.

ID 13.01 After working in a document for a bit, I lose the ability to select any of the tools. Only the 'text tool' works. I've tried closing document and re-opening. The only way to get it to work is by exiting out of InDesign and reopening. Using Windows 10 Pro

Still experiencing this issue, why can't we pinpoint a third party software so you can come up with a list of exactly what is happening???

Stephen, I had to uninstall/reinstall via Creative Cloud app. During reinstall, under Advanced Options, I deselected "Import previous settings and preferences" and selected "Uninstall previous versions." All those functions returned to normal. I did lose my previous settings.

I tried restarting my MacBook and opening InDesign first like suggested by Mr. Kiran here, and that worked for me. The shift+alt+command keys now works as normal.
However, this is a short term solution, so I hope Adobe manages to sort this out quickly.

I thought I was losing my mind. I need this option back as well. It's really slowing my productivity down! Why is it taking so long and why isn't adobe even making any comments on this page. What's the point of shortcuts if they don't work. No proportionate scaling and no option key for duplicating.
